Edith stood before Ansgar, tray of drinks in hand. The vampire was growing agitated.
“What about healing you?” Edith stammered, alarmed at the growing hostility in the vampire’s eyes. “What if I could heal vampires, and not destroy them?”
“Heal?” Ansgar’s eyes grew wide in disbelief. He threw his head back, “Ha!”
His laugh was loud, causing people to pause and look.
Suddenly, he grabbed Edith’s arm with a crushing grip. Edith gasped as the vampire pressed his face against her ear.
“Don’t you think someone with your ability hasn’t come along before? You would think they would have tried to heal us, yes? No!”
Ansgar pushed Edith away roughly.
“We were cursed,” he hissed. “Cursed, exiled, and hunted for eternity. This… is what we got for following Caden Byrne on his whims. Now, however, he isn’t the one in charge, his power has faded.”
Ansgar looked over his shoulder at the door Caden had gone through.
