Capítulo 56: Chapter 56
Chris refused to look at Zeven for the entire ride, rushing out ahead of him never saying a word.
For Zeven it was agony. He grit his teeth and tried to keep pace with her. Winding through the trees and brush did little to soothe him.
Not a single word was said until they reached the shed. Chris slipped off her horse and went about putting him away. Removing his horse tack she returned it to where it originally sat. She finished before Zeven did, leaving him behind as he scrambled to catch up with her.
She was halfway to the house before he managed to reach her. He put his hand out to stop her, grabbing her right shoulder. She brushed his hand off without a sound.
He immediately put his hand back on her shoulder only to have it brushed aside once more. His fists clenched.
"What is your issue?" She kept walking. "For the love of God, Chris!" He grabbed her shoulder again, jerking her around to him.
"You made me look like a fool," she spit at him, "I had it under control."
"It didn't look like it from where I was standing."
Chris shoved the palm of her hand into his chest, breaking his hold on her. She turned around and started walking quicker. Zeven was talking to her, but she tuned him out. All but flinging the door to the house open when she reached it.
Zeven caught the door before it could slam shut.
"I don't understand why you are angry."
"I'm not angry, I'm pissed. I despise this cursed body, and I despise you."
"It has nothing to do with you being a woman, you were at a serious disadvantage!"
"I am fine by myself."
"Obviously not! Do you even know what they wanted to do to you?"
She stated up the staircase with Zeven following close behind."
"You know nothing about me or the things I can and can't do."
"I know enough."
She stopped in her tracks and looked back at him.
"Oh I'm sure. What did Brennan tell you?"
Immediately she went back to climbing.
"That's irrelevant. We have been living together for almost three weeks, I like to think I know certain things."
At the top of the stairs she turned right and put her hand out to turn the doorknob that led to her room.
"You know nothing. When you look at me you see a woman."
"That is because you are one."
She pivoted, suddenly advancing him.
"I was a general, I lead an army-"
"-As did I."
