Capítulo 22: An Adventure leaving the place they called home

"Thank you of, course it's a wonderful Idea, but we need money so that's for the future, lets go home now, I know you are tired," Malphas said.

"I am kinda tired," replied Mammon, his voice heavy with fatigue.

The two comrades then commenced their journey towards their inn, their footsteps falling in rhythm with the gentle night breeze. Upon reaching their destination, Mammon and Asmodeus retired to their chambers, succumbing to the alluring embrace of sleep. Malphas, however, remained awake, immersing himself in the captivating world of manga until the first rays of sunlight illuminated the sky.

As the majestic sun began its ascent into the cerulean heavens, Malphas, the astute leader of his entourage, roused his companions from their deep slumber. With swift movements, they adorned their armor, ensuring that every piece was meticulously in place, a reflection of their unwavering commitment to their craft. As they stepped out onto the bustling streets of the city, Malphas' keen senses scoured the area, taking in every detail of their surroundings.

As they arrived at the fabled Adventurers Guild, their eyes were drawn to the mammoth board, which loomed before them like a colossus. The board was adorned with a plethora of quests, each one more challenging than the last. However, Malphas, with his sharp vision, immediately spotted a mission that caught his attention.

With a flourish, he extracted the quest, which promised a hefty sum of 5000 dara per person, with a limit of thirty people. The task was simple enough, requiring them to assist a merchant in transporting goods to a neighboring city. Malphas' team nodded in agreement as they perused the document, their hearts filled with the anticipation of the wealth that awaited them.

With a smug grin, Malphas announced, "My dear companions, this quest shall earn us a staggering sum of 75000 dara, a sum that dwarfs the mere pittance we earned from the pitiful goblins we turned in yesterday."

Upon hearing this, Naamah, the ever-vivacious member of their party, beamed with delight, exclaiming, "Oh, Yay! More funds to lavish upon ourselves! When can we embark on our much-deserved shopping spree?"

Malphas, with a sense of self-assurance that rivaled that of a monarch, let out a hearty chuckle and warmly patted his dear friend Naamah on the back. His confidence was unshakable, for he knew that the wealth they were about to amass from their current quest would be more than enough to satisfy even Naamah's insatiable thirst for material goods.

However, Samael couldn't help but notice a sudden change in Malphas' demeanor. His concerned voice pierced through the air, "My lord, is everything alright? You seem a bit... off."

Malphas, taking a moment to gather his thoughts, admitted, "Oh, my apologies. I have been indulging in a considerable amount of manga lately, and I fear it may have influenced my behavior. Let us focus on the task at hand, and perhaps we can glean some information on the person we have been tasked with guarding."

With that, the trio made their way to the bustling center desk. As they approached, one of the ladies manning the desk extended a sharp knife towards Malphas and asked him to slit his finger as a means of accepting the quest.

Though the mere idea of using a human's knife to puncture his flesh was laughable to him, Malphas calmly retrieved his own blade and expertly sliced his finger. With a deft flick of his wrist, he pressed his bloodied finger onto the quest document, officially confirming their acceptance of the task at hand.

As they made their way out of the guild, Malphas held close the quest paper that directed him to the merchant and the merchant hub he would be leaving from.

As they walked through the bustling streets of the city, Malphas couldn't help but feel a sense of excitement building within him. The thought of the riches they would acquire filled him with a thrill unlike anything he had ever experienced before.

They soon arrived at the merchant hub, a massive marketplace filled with all manner of exotic goods from distant lands. The scent of spices and incense wafted through the air, while the sound of merchants haggling with customers filled their ears.

Malphas approached one of the merchants, a burly man with a thick beard and a shrewd look in his eye. "Are you the merchant that requested guards," Malphas asked, handing the man the quest paper.

The merchant nodded, his eyes scanning over the quest paper. "That I am," he said, stroking his beard thoughtfully. "I've got some valuable goods that I need transported to a neighboring city, and I need a group of skilled guards to keep them safe from bandits, monster, and other unsavory characters."

"Make no mistake," Malphas said with an air of supreme confidence, "we are more than capable of protecting your precious cargo."

The merchant's eyes narrowed as he scrutinized the group before him, his gaze lingering on their seemingly inadequate equipment. "I hope you are right," he said skeptically, "because these goods are worth more than your lives."

Samuel stepped forward, his voice ringing out clear and strong. "Rest assured, we have enough provisions to last us for a month," he said, pointing to the heavily laden Asmodeus. "All on his back."

Asmodeus waved a friendly greeting, his mischievous grin belying the true power that lay beneath his unassuming exterior.

The merchant nodded slowly, his expression softening slightly. "Very well," he said, "I'll take your word for it. My name is Roderick, what about you all?"

Malphas stepped forward, extending his hand in a gesture of goodwill. "I am Malphas," he said firmly.

"I'm Samael," Abaddon added, his voice low and menacing.

"Belphegor," another member of the group chimed in, his eyes gleaming with a wicked fire.

One by one, the demons introduced themselves, their names rolling off their tongues with an effortless grace that belied their otherworldly power.

Roderick looked taken aback, his eyes widening in surprise. "Wait, are you all demons or something?" he asked incredulously, a playful chuckle escaping his lips.

Malphas chuckled along, his mind racing as he tried to deflect the merchant's suspicions. "Just some fun role-play names," he said, his voice light and airy. "And since we're all dead, we don't really have real names anymore, do we?"

Roderick nodded slowly, his gaze lingering on the group for a few moments longer before turning to lead the way towards their destination.

"Well, hold on to your hats folks, because we've got a convoy of 10 fully loaded wagons, each one weighing a whopping 20 tons and carried by the mighty troll-crawler," Roderick exclaimed, his eyes sparkling with excitement. "These behemoths are like a cross between a rhinoceros and a tortoise, and let me tell you, they are a sight to behold!"

Naamah couldn't help but coo as she stroked the tough, leathery skin of the lead troll-crawler, her eyes lighting up with wonder. "It's so cute!" she exclaimed, her voice filled with childlike glee.

Lilith nodded in agreement, perching gracefully atop the second wagon's shell. "I couldn't agree more," she said with a grin.

Roderick scratched his head, his eyes narrowing in confusion. "How did those things get over there so quickly, and how did I not see them before?" he asked.

Malphas shrugged nonchalantly. "They find their way, I suppose," he said with a hint of amusement in his voice.

Roderick nodded slowly, his gaze lingering on the group for a few moments longer before turning to business. "Alright, folks, listen up. I'm gonna need at least one person per wagon, and since there are fifteen of you, we'll need two people on the first and last two wagons, and two in the fifth wagon. This should allow us to defend from attacks on each and every side," he said, his voice firm and commanding.

Malphas nodded in agreement, his eyes scanning the surroundings with a sharpness that could cut through steel. "We're ready for whatever comes our way," he said with a confident smile.

Roderick chuckled, his eyes crinkling with amusement. "Well, I hope so. But just so you know, the world outside the city is a completely different and new world from what you see here," he said, his voice growing serious. "Be careful, don't wander too far from the convoy, and above all, stay safe. Alright the briefing is over lets get situated."

After what felt like an eternity, the group finally settled into their designated seating arrangements for the long and treacherous journey ahead.

Lilith let out a sigh of frustration as she surveyed her surroundings. "Damn it," she muttered under her breath. "My love is on the first cart, and I'm stuck all the way back here on the fifth."

Samael glanced over at Lilith, his eyes filled with a mixture of amusement and sympathy. "I'm sorry, Lilith," he said softly.

Lilith bristled at the sympathy in his voice. "Don't give me that look," she snapped, her eyes flashing with frustration. "I don't hate you, Samael. I just want to be sitting with Malphas, not stuck here with Naamah all over him like a lovesick puppy."

Samael raised his hands in surrender, a small smile playing at the corners of his mouth. "I hear you, Lilith. But you know how it is. We've all got our roles to play, and we have to stick to them if we want to make it out of this alive."

Lilith let out a deep sigh, her eyes closing momentarily as she tried to calm herself down. "Yeah, I know," she said resignedly. "It's just hard being away from him for so long."

Samael nodded in understanding. "I know, Lilith. But we'll make it through this together, I promise."

Lilith smiled weakly at Samael, grateful for his words of comfort. "Thanks, Samael. You always know just what to say," she said, her voice filled with affection.

Samael grinned, his eyes sparkling with warmth. "Of course, Lilith. That's what friends are for," he said, reaching out to squeeze her hand gently.

As the convoy began to move, Lilith leaned back against the hard shell of the wagon, her eyes scanning the horizon for any signs of danger. She knew that the journey ahead would be long and grueling, filled with challenges and obstacles that would test their mettle at every turn. But she was determined to see it through, to emerge victorious and reunited with her beloved Malphas on the other side.

As they left the bustling merchant district, the convoy slowly made its way eastward through the winding city streets. The road was lined with an endless stream of wagons, convoys, and peculiar creatures carrying one or more individuals, all rushing to their destinations within or outside the city. The din of the commotion filled the air, echoing off the towering buildings and adding to the already chaotic atmosphere of the city.

As they passed through the city gates, the view opened up to reveal vast fields of crops and vegetation stretching out as far as the eye could see. The fields were a patchwork of different colors, with crops of every kind growing in abundance, ready to be harvested and refined for sale in the city or the surrounding regions.

The group continued on their journey for hours, their surroundings changing from fields of crops to towering mountains and dense forests. The terrain was rough and rocky, with steep cliffs and treacherous paths that had to be navigated with care. The troll-crawlers moved slowly but surely, their massive legs crushing any obstacles in their path as they made their way across the unforgiving landscape.

As the sun began to set, casting a golden hue across the barren landscape, the tension in the air began to grow. The once vibrant fields had given way to a desolate, lifeless wasteland, with no sign of civilization for miles around. The silence was oppressive, broken only by the occasional creaking of the wagon wheels and the labored breathing of the troll-crawlers. And so ended the first day.
