Capítulo 34: NEKRITH LOCUSTS [2]
As the group caught their breath and tended to their wounds, a new sound pierced the silence of the cave.
It was a low, menacing buzz, different from the previous locusts.
The hairs on the back of Ravan's neck stood on end as he turned to face the source of the noise.
Emerging from the shadows was a locust far larger and more formidable than the others.
Its body was covered in scales that looked like hardened rock, and its mandibles were razor-sharp, each more terrifying than the last.
'This one has 4 mandibles...its different from the others,'Ravan thought.
Ravan's eyes widened in recognition.
"That's a male locust," he said, his voice trembling.
"It's here because it heard the cry of its mate."
The group quickly formed a defensive circle, weapons at the ready.
The male locust let out a guttural roar, its mandibles clacking together with a sound that echoed through the cave.
"Shit..."Ravan muttered under his breath.
It charged at them, its sheer size and strength making it a formidable opponent.
Enya took the lead once again, her fiery spear blazing. She struck at the locust's hardened scales, but her attacks seemed to have little effect.
"What the hell..."Enya shouted sweating a bit as she dodged a stomp from the Male Nekrith Locust.
The creature's exoskeleton was far tougher than that of the females they had just defeated.
"Focus on its weak points, go for its eyes and legs!" Ravan shouted, trying to identify any vulnerabilities.
The group fought with renewed determination, their attacks coordinated and relentless.
Brutus used his brute strength to try and pin the locust down, while Kael darted around, his ice daggers striking at its joints.
Selene unleashed bolts of lightning from her spear, but the locust's scales seemed to absorb the energy.
The male locust retaliated with terrifying ferocity. It lunged at Enya, its mandibles snapping shut just inches from her face.
"This thing is different...its almost like it can see through our attacks and has a brain of recalculating them," Enya muttered to herself.
She barely managed to dodge, her spear blazing as she counterattacked. The creature roared in anger, its wings buzzing furiously.
Suddenly, the locust opened its mandibles wide, and a stream of greenish liquid shot out.
The group scattered, narrowly avoiding the acidic saliva that splattered against the cave floor.
The stone hissed and bubbled as the acid corroded everything it touched.
"Watch out for the acid!" Ravan warned, but it was too late.
A stray droplet landed on his arm, and a searing pain shot through his body.
"Aaahgh!"
He let out a guttural groan, clutching his arm as the acid burned through his flesh.
"Ravan!" Enya shouted, her eyes wide with concern.
"Hang in there!"
Ravan gritted his teeth, the pain nearly unbearable. His vision blurred as he struggled to stay focused. He knew he couldn't afford to be a liability.
Summoning every ounce of his strength, he pushed the pain to the back of his mind and continued to strategize.
"We need to get behind it!" he called out.
"Its back is less armored!"
The group adjusted their tactics, trying to maneuver around the locust. But the creature was relentless, its movements swift and deadly.
It lashed out with its mandibles, forcing the group to stay on the defensive.
Kael managed to slip behind the locust, his ice daggers striking at its joints.
"Eureka!"
He found a small gap in the armor and drove his daggers in, but the locust roared and kicked out, sending him flying across the cave.
Selene and Darius combined their powers, creating a barrier of lightning and earth to trap the locust. It thrashed against the barrier, its acidic saliva burning through the earth.
Brutus and Jorin took the opportunity to attack, their combined strength managing to crack the locust's armor.
Enya seized the moment, her spear blazing brighter than ever. She charged at the locust, aiming for the exposed joint.
The spear pierced through the armor, and the locust let out a deafening roar. It reared back, its wings buzzing furiously.
Just as the group thought they were gaining the upper hand, the locust unleashed another stream of acid.
Ravan, still clutching his burned arm, barely managed to dive out of the way. The acid splattered against the cave walls, leaving deep, corroded marks.
"Shit..."
The group regrouped, their faces grim. The male locust was proving to be a much tougher opponent than they had anticipated.
Ravan's mind raced, searching for a solution.
"Enya, distract it!" he shouted.
"Kael, get behind it again! We need to find another weak spot!"
Enya nodded, her eyes blazing with determination. She charged at the locust, her spear a blur of motion.
The creature focused on her, its mandibles snapping viciously.
Kael used the distraction to slip behind the locust once more, his daggers poised to strike.This time, he aimed for the base of the wings, where the armor was thinnest. His daggers struck true, and the locust let out a pained screech. Its movements became erratic, the wings buzzing uncontrollably.
Selene and Darius took the opportunity to unleash a combined attack. Lightning crackled through the air, striking the locust's exposed joints, while Darius summoned a pillar of earth to crush its legs.
The creature roared, its strength finally waning.
Brutus and Jorin moved in for the kill, their combined strength driving their weapons into the locust's weakened body.
Enya delivered the final blow, her spear piercing through the locust's head. The creature let out one last, pitiful screech before collapsing to the ground.
The group stood in the aftermath, their bodies bruised and battered, but victorious.
Ravan clutched his burned arm, the pain still throbbing, but he felt a sense of relief wash over him.
They had faced a formidable opponent and emerged victorious.
"We did it," Lyra said, her voice filled with exhaustion and triumph.
"We actually did it."
