Finally, he managed to corner the rabbit against a rock wall.
It stared at him, eyes glinting defiantly.
"Gotcha now, you little...!"
Just as he reached out, the rabbit made one last desperate dash, slipping past his fingers.
Ravan lunged, throwing his full weight into the pursuit.
He collided with the wall, but his hand closed around the rabbit's horn.
"Ha! Got you!" he exclaimed triumphantly, holding the struggling rabbit aloft.
"Now, let's see how you like—"
But before he could finish, the rabbit kicked and twisted in his grip, and he lost his balance, falling backward.
He landed hard, his breath knocked out of him.
As he lay there, gasping, the rabbit scampered off again, its mocking eyes glinting in the dim light.
"Son of a—" Ravan started, but then stopped, blinking.
In the direction the rabbit had fled, he saw something glinting. Slowly, he got to his feet and approached, curious despite himself.
There, in a secluded corner of the dungeon, he found a pile of what seemed to be dead human bodies.
His breath caught in his throat as he noticed a singular person sitting among the stones, eyes wide and filled with fear and sweating.
The man's gaze snapped up as Ravan approached.
"Please, help me," he begged, his voice trembling.
"My teammates were killed by a monster, and I'm the only one left. Please, help me get out of here."
Ravan paused, his eyes narrowing.
Something about the man's demeanor felt off.
'His supposed teammates aren't soaked in blood only their necks.'
'And there seems to be no evidence of struggle. On top of that, this man is the only one covered with blood,' Ravan thought approaching.
As he walked closer, he noticed a rock in the shape of a dagger on the man's belt.
'His hands are bloody too...'
That was when Ravan had a thought.
This was the weapon that had killed the man's own teammates.
The pile of bags beside him, filled with items and rewards, confirmed Ravan's suspicions.
He took a deep breath, his jaw clenched.
"Sorry, but I can't help you," he said coldly, stepping away.
The man's pleas followed him, but Ravan ignored them, determined to trust no one in this treacherous dungeon.
'Just the first floor and people are dropping like flies, not because of being killed by the monsters and beasts, but because of greed and betrayal.'
'I learnt that the hard way. They are forgetting that everyone in here is a criminal charged with an offence befitting of Death!'
As he turned a corner, he spotted the rabbit again.
This time, instead of running, it limped toward him, its leg injured.
Ravan hesitated, then knelt down, watching as the rabbit's leg began to regenerate.
"Well, look at you," he said, a small smile tugging at his lips.
"You're tougher than you look."
He reached out and gently picked the rabbit up by the ears.
"I could kill you," he murmured, more to himself than the rabbit.
"But maybe it's not worth it. I've killed your friends already."
The rabbit blinked up at him, then surprisingly, licked his hand.
Ravan chuckled, setting it down.
"Alright, you can run off now," Ravan said letting the Rabbit go.
To his surprise, the rabbit didn't run off.
Instead, it lingered around him, even jumping onto his head.
Ravan shook his head, laughing.
"Great, now I have a pet rabbit. Just what I needed."
He sighed, but a part of him was glad for the company.
"I guess, it's not that bad at all."
"To be honest I'd rather trust a demonic rabbit than the bastards in here wearing masks and putting on acts just to manipulate others," Ravan said to the rabbit but more to himself.
As they continued through the dungeon, the rabbit seemed to lead the way, its small body moving with surprising confidence.
Eventually, they reached a massive black door, towering and filled with intricate designs.
Large circular knockers hung from it, looking ancient and foreboding. Ravan stared at it, knowing instinctively that this was the gateway to the second floor of the dungeon.
"Well, looks like we made it," he said, glancing at the rabbit on his shoulder.
"Let's see what's behind door number two."
With a deep breath, he pushed the door open, ready for whatever challenges lay ahead.
The dungeon was a dark and dangerous place, but Ravan was determined to survive, no matter what it took.
"Kael, I hope you're preparing yourself for my grand arrival..."
"A bloody one at that."
