The ger's expression was a mix of confusion and frustration, his thoughts not aligning with the apology he had just received.
Xuan Jian's lips curled into a small smile, understanding the ger's disconcerted reaction. He clarified the cause for his concern, "You're still healing from the poison your parents dispensed to you before they sent you to be sold."

"Xuan Yang and I," Xuan Jian's voice was tinged with regret, "should have protected you better, especially since we are no better than Lady Xuan for continuing this contract." He enunciated the words as though they were poison themselves.
