In the middle of the month of February in the year 2022, everyone mysteriously fell asleep for a week, well most of them. With everyone asleep nobody noticed of the changes happening in the span of a week, well except for a few whom were not expected by the mysterious mastermind of what was going on.
When everyone woke up again, they were surprised to see some sort of portal in the sky which seemed to lead to another land, bit that surprise was taken over by fear when fire suddenly rained down from the skies.
The Apocalypse, it was what they would dubbed that day to remind humanity that the inhabitants of their world came close to extinction.

*BOOM!*
With one last explosion, Xueyue looked up and saw the edge of Shanghai in a sea of flames. She couldn't believe it! And she wasn't the only one. She and the rest of her companions in the rooftop were too shocked to actually make any noise, but they were brought out of their stupor when screams of terror erupted from everywhere, accompanied by roars of something obviously not human.
'Those mutated humans have woken up as well.' she thought. 'Either they were scared of the sudden change in them or the have lost their minds during their transformation.'
"What the hell's going on?!" Xueyue heard Feng Xian exclaim, his hands gripping the rail tight.
Her eyes widened when she saw him bend the steel railing with his bare hand. She immediately nudged Liu Bai and Wuji and pointed at it. Their eyes also widened, with Wuji letting out a gasp.
"Fengfeng." Wuji called, her hand still covering her mouth in shock. "Look at what you did."
All eyes traced where she was pointing and they all gasped in surprise as well, with Feng Xian the one most surprised.
"What… what is this? What's going on?"
Nobody answered him. Well no one knew the answer to his question.
"It's the end of the world." Hae-song suddenly muttered which made everyone look at him fearfully. "It's the Apocalypse."
"Songsong, don't day something like that." Song Tian responded with an unsure voice. "This is- It's not- We-"
Xueyue could tell Song Tian was about to panic, so she went to the trembling girl and hugged her.
"Calm down." Xueyue said in a calm manner. "Deep breaths Song Tian, deep breaths."
She did not make it obvious, but she pushed a small amount of magic energy towards Song Tian to actually calm her down. She couldn't have them panic and lose their life in the process, so she had no other choice. Xueyue was pretty sure Song Tian felt it though, especially if what those cloaked bastards said was true and somehow her friends were adapting to magic.
"What was that? How did you do that?" Song Tian asked her expression full of confusion.
"I- I'll explain later. For now, we can't panic." Xueyue replied.
Suddenly, there was a loud roar coming out from the gates of the school and the seven of them looked at its direction. They all gasped when they saw a scaled creature hunched at the gates. It was the size of a garbage truck with green scales on its body. It had a pair of red eyes and a tail Xueyue was sure would crush a person with one swift swing.
Apart from her and Liu Bai, who had seen similar creatures back in Vastia, the rest of their friends screamed in terror. A few screams were also heard from the lower floors, which only meant everyone saw the monster.
'So Vastia really have something to do with this. I'm willing to bet it's those bastards who call themselves gods.' she snarled mentally.
"Listen up guys." Xueyue called. She had been rehearsing the speech she was about to deliver for the past three days. She wanted to encourage her friends without arousing suspicion from them.
When she and Liu Bai realized that their friends were able to stably adapt to the magic in the atmosphere from Vastia and that monsters would be popping up in their way, the two decided that they had to encourage them to survive and accept who and what they were without being suspicious of them.
"I don't think Hae-song is wrong. Don't you feel that?" she questioned. "The heavy atmosphere, the smell of iron and the prickle in your skin? I don't know about you, but I feel like energy is welling up inside me. Blame my addiction to light novels or whatever, but that creature out there, the flames surrounding Shanghai and the inhuman roars outside the school, it just show everything has changed."
"Xueyue is right." Liu Bai added after seconds of silence. "We've been asleep for seven days without knowing why, and this is what we wake up to. I'm pretty sure Hae-song is not off the mark."
"Does that mean we're going to die?" Feng Xian questioned, his eyes glued to his hands, still processing the fact that they might've been in the middle of the apocalypse and that he suddenly had super strength.
"Not quite. If we're meant to die, we were probably already dead, and not have this conversation." Xueyue said in a nonchalant manner.
"Xueyue." Wuju called. "You're awfully calm about this."
"I just weighed the pros and cons. If it's really the apocalypse, like what Hae-song just said, then panicking and crying over it will not be beneficial to us. At least I know that much."
Everyone, apart from Liu Bai, looked at her skeptically but they did manage to calm down. They were scared yes, but they were no longer panicking.
"Guys look!" Song Tian exclaimed and pointed to the gate where the monster was.
The monster seemed to be pounding on an unseen wall, unable to get past the gate.
"A barrier?" Feng Xian questioned. "Is the school some sort of safe zones or something? Like in RPG games?"
'Right, he's fond of video games. I think he will be the first to actually accept the changes.'
The seven of them watched as the monster tried to pound on the barrier. It probably realized it was useless since it started walking away, probably looking for a victim.
"Wait, what about our families?" Wuji asked. Worried. "I don't think all buildings are safe zones like SVIS."
Just as she finished her statement, a roar was heard not that far from them and then an explosion followed suit on a nearby building. They watched as the upper part of the tall building was blasted into pieces.
Xueyue saw Wuji shed tears immediately. She knew how Wuju and her family were close to each other. It could be seen in her face, how she worried she was for them. Not just her actually. All seven of them were concerned about their families.
'Yiheng, Weixian, Qianhao, I hope you followed my instruction and are doing alright.' Xueyue thought. 'Cieo, Phaero, Thystia, come here soon.'
"Let's check on our classmates. After that, let's see what we can do regarding our situation." Jianran suggested which immediately received agreement.
