The sun was setting, slowly the sunlight was leaving the city to give way to the faint glow of the moon, businesses were closing, some were opening, some were already resting, and others were still awake.
Among those people was a young man with red hair and narrowed eyes sitting on a chair and browsing through some documents. After a few minutes, he put them aside and let out a long sigh.
"This is a hassle; at least tomorrow it will all be over."
He said this as he grabbed a cup of tea that was next to him and took a sip.
"That guy turned out to have some interesting ideas, albeit very clumsy and a lot of mistakes; how did they not even catch him already?"
He said with a bit of disbelief as he thought about his younger brother's antics. Clearly, he was aware of all his sabotages, and the shadow following him was informing him of all his actions.
"Speak of the devil."
He said, and the next moment, a figure covered in a dark cloak appeared in front of him, as if it had always been there, but he simply hadn't noticed it.
"Damn, that thing you guys do keeps surprising me. I guess you're our watchdogs for a reason."
"..."
Despite the provocation, the dark figure remained completely silent without showing any reaction.
"Tsk, that's why I don't like dealing with you guys; you're so brainwashed that you can't object to or disobey orders. I admit it's very practical but also boring."
"..."
Avalon was still complaining, but the figure was still silent without showing even the slightest reaction.
"Well? What did the idiot do today? If nothing important happened, then get out of here."
"..."
Avalon asked; however, the figure said nothing and remained motionless in its place.
"Hey, are you deaf? I told you- "
Voosh-!
Avalon was getting annoyed, and when he was about to scold the figure, it suddenly lunged at him, attacking him with a hidden knife, but thanks to his reflexes, he managed to dodge the knife that was headed for his head and quickly moved away.
"What are you?"
Avalon tried to question the figure, but it quickly lunged at him again, giving him a kick that he narrowly managed to block.
"Agh! You bastard!"
Avalon quickly countered by throwing a hit to the figure's abdomen, but the figure blocked it and attacked him back.
Beginning an exchange of hits, Avalon was being overcome by his bad position and slowly started to back up, until the figure managed to land a kick to his chest, sending him flying and crashing into the furniture.
"Fuck..."
Slowly, he stood up and looked at the figure. The figure, on the other hand, pulled out two knives, getting ready to fight for real.
"You think you can mess with me, you bastard?"
He said it with irritation, and from his dimensional ring, he pulled out a luxurious spear and got into position.
Woosh- Woosh- Woosh- Woosh-
But just as he was about to attack, eight more figures appeared in front of him, all drawing their weapons and aiming at Avalon.
Avalon, seeing this, pressed his grip on his spear, preparing for battle.
Woosh-
However, a shadow appeared next to him, and out of it came a middle-aged man with empty eyes.
Upon seeing him, Avalon visibly calmed down and questioned him.
"Hey, old man, what's going on?"
"All our shadows have been replaced."
"What!?"
Hearing his words, Avalon couldn't believe it. His shadows were scattered all over the academy city and were in charge of secretly gathering information without anyone knowing it.
But they weren't just informants; all the shadows were strong enough to hold a decent fight against an aura practitioner. That all those shadows had been replaced was something he couldn't believe.
"Does that mean...?"
"Yes, we're surrounded."
***
Inside a luxurious bedroom lay a beautiful golden-haired young woman asleep, moonlight filtered through her window, illuminating her delicate features.
But through this same window, one could see a man dressed in completely black attire with a cloth in his mouth.
Using his tools, he managed to unlock the window, slowly open it, and enter the bedroom without making any noise.
With cautious steps, he slowly approached the young girl's bed. Once he was in front of her, he pulled out a rope and slowly extended his hand towards the sleeping girl.
"I got you."
"!!!"
Woosh-!
When his hand was close to Beatriz, she suddenly opened her eyes, and golden flames started to come out of her body.
The man, sensing the danger, quickly tried to escape through the open window, but his path was blocked by a woman dressed in black who quickly attacked him.
The woman threw a kick that the man dodged and quickly countered by throwing a punch at the woman's abdomen.
Woosh-!
But when she tried to attack, a wall of fire separated them, causing the man to back up.
"Shit..."
Seeing that he couldn't escape through the window, the man decided to take another route and ran towards the bedroom door.
Boom-!
However, as he approached the door, Leticia suddenly burst in, breaking it and quickly attacking the man.
Swoosh-
Thanks to his quick reflexes, the man managed to dodge Leticia's sword, which was heading for his head, and quickly backed away.
Now the man was completely cornered; Beatrice could restrict his movements using her flames, and Leticia and the woman in black would not let him escape. He could easily take care of them, but his presence had already been revealed, and it wouldn't take long for them to chase after him.
'Fuck, this was supposed to be an easy mission!'
What he had to do was really simple; he just had to kidnap the princess and hide her in a place for a day. After that, he would be paid 10,000 gold coins, which would be enough for him and his group to live comfortably without working for half a year, besides protecting them from any attempt to track them down.
Although kidnapping the princess might seem like suicide, his group would do anything as long as they paid the right price, and this was too juicy a deal to pass up.
'Infiltrating the academy city was hard enough, and now he had to take care of this?!'
Fuck it, thought the man.
While the reward might be juicy, being imprisoned or even executed for trying to kidnap the princess was something he didn't want.
Reaching into his pocket, the man pulled out a smoke bomb, which he slammed into the ground, creating a thick layer of smoke that blocked the woman's vision.
'Now!'
Taking advantage of the woman's surprise, the man quickly slipped out and out of the open window of the room.
"I have to escape."
The man's words were cut off when he saw a fist heading towards his face; it was inches away from his face, so he could do nothing to dodge it.
Boom-!
The hit sent him flying, and he crashed into one of the buildings, shattering it from the force of the impact.
"Cof, cof!"
The man broke his nose and took off the cloth that covered him so as not to choke on his own blood.
Looking up, he could see a woman with blonde hair and bright green eyes slowly approaching him.
"By the authority vested in me by the Pendragon family, you are under arrest for the attempted kidnapping of a member of the royal family."
Lysllette said as she slowly unsheathed her sword.
"Haha, sorry, but I don't feel like going to prison."
*Whistling*
The man gave a whistle, and the next moment, 10 figures appeared on the rooftops.
They knew this was going to be a risky mission; that's why they brought more people than usual for missions of this style.
Lysllette wasn't the least bit surprised by the sudden appearance of the man's reinforcements; she had felt their presence for a long time now, but she wanted them to gather so she could deal with everyone quickly.
'Three mages, four intermediate warriors, and three aura apprentices."
Their training could be considered high-level, almost elite, but there was something these guys were overlooking.
They were facing an aura master.
Woosh-!
One of the figures, with his back to Lysllette, cautiously pulled out a knife hidden in his sleeve and threw it at him at a high speed.
However, without the slightest difficulty, Lysllette caught the knife and, with a twist, threw it back at the figure, but this time much faster than before.
The man couldn't even react when the knife hit his head, killing him instantly.
Voosh-!
Immediately after Lysllette disappeared from her place and reappeared in front of another figure, this one startled, but before she could even touch her weapon, she was split in half.
Without stopping, Lysllette disappeared again and reappeared in front of another figure.
This time, being alert, the figure unsheathed his sword and got into position to block Lysllette's attack.
But her effort was useless.
Shiiing-!
Slash-!
Lysllette's sword sliced the figure's sword like butter, and together with his sword, it split it in half.
"Sea of Fire!"
"Gale!"
Two others further away cast spells simultaneously, with the wind spell further empowering the fire spell, creating a synergy.
Lysllette just stared expressionlessly at the huge sea of fire heading towards her. Slowly, she raised her sword, and with a simple swing, the sea of fire split in two.
"Th-that's-that's-!"
Slash-!
Unable to submerge in their astonishment, the heads of the two figures flew through the air, with Lysllette standing behind them.
"Six left"
What happened next was a complete massacre. Lysllette easily finished off all the men without them being able to defend themselves. Some tried to escape in terror, but their heads flew off before they even realized it.
The man who was immobile and embedded in the wall watched all this with bewilderment and horror on his face.
Clank-!
"Why don't you better tell me who ordered you to do this, hmm?"
Sticking her sword inches from the man's face, Lysllette asked him with a stern look.
The man's pants began to get wet, and a large puddle was created under his feet as he trembled. Looking at Lisllette with absolute terror, he said, stuttering.
"I-it's-okay."
***
"Sister!"
Leticia and the rest arrived at where Lysllette was, only to find several bodies piled up in a corner and an unconscious man with wet pants.
"Ah, they arrived."
"Did you get the recording?"
Beatriz asked, and Lysllette showed her a device that had the shape of a small cylinder; this was a magic recorder, a magical tool that allowed to record conversations, and from this, a voice began to be heard.
"It was Arthur Reclesia; he hired us to kidnap the princess and hold her captive for a day; he said that in return, he would pay us 10,000 gold coins and protect us against anyone who tried to find us afterwards."
After that, the recording stopped.
Beatriz had a big smile on her face, glad that her plan had worked.
"Great! We've got him; now we just have to catch him!"
"I'll go now."
Lysllette said, and as she turned to leave, Leticia ran to her side.
"I'm going too!"
"No, he might have more people protecting him or some trap."
"I can handle that; I'm not weak!"
"I know, but it's late enough; just go to sleep and let your big sister handle it."
Lysllette said as she put her hand on Leticia's head.
"... Fine."
Leticia, although looking unhappy, decided to follow her older sister's words.
"Okay, sleep well."
Leaving those last words, Lysllette disappeared, on her way to catch Arthur Reclesia, the one responsible for all this mess.
***
Lysllette was slightly surprised.
It didn't take her more than 10 minutes to reach the male dormitories and find Arthur's room. She walked straight in, breaking down the door in case there was a trap waiting for her on the other side.
But instead, she ran into Arthur.
However, that wasn't the reason for her surprise.
"Oh, Miss Lysllette, I was expecting you."
She expected that upon meeting Arthur, he would be frightened, anxious, or even try to attack her. She imagined the various reactions Arthur might have had upon meeting her.
However, in the many situations that went through her mind, she never expected this.
"Why don't you sit down and have a chat for a while?"
Arthur was sitting quietly with a white-haired maid standing next to him and a tea set with sandwiches on the table in front of him.
