He had finally been persuaded!

Any lingering heartache Isabelle Richardson felt for him vanished, replaced by pure joy.

But Lana Lewis found Michael's response far from satisfying.

"Xavier, you're already engaged to Isabelle, and the marriage is set. What do you mean by 'still considering'?"

Isabelle dared not speak.

She realized that Lana had once again mistaken Michael for Xavier.

Afraid that Michael might get angry and change his mind, Isabelle quickly stepped in, gently pulling Lana aside. "Ms. Lewis, Michael—I mean, Xavier—just narrowly escaped death. Let's give him some time to rest. The wedding can wait."

Her voice faltered noticeably when she said " Xavier," her whole demeanor stiff and unnatural.

She couldn't bring herself to meet Michael's gaze.

"Ms. Lewis, why don't I take you back to your hospital room first? I need to talk to 'brother Xavier' privately."

Having achieved her goal, Isabelle was anxious to get Lana away before she said anything else.
