Capítulo 9: Chapter 9

Macey

The shadows flutter about as the fire's flames crackle against the wood. I curl my body further into itself, attempting to get the chill and icy coldness seeping through my clothing to vanish.

"Do you think they wish to rescue us from master?" Cassie asks aloud.

"I'm not sure Cassie. None of this is making any sense." Amelia states, consoling her atop the large queen sized bed.

After leading us to three large unmarked white vans. The men drove all the girls here to this small motel. They brought us food and water, checked over any injuries we had and documented everything. After that, we were separated. Cassie, Amelia and myself the only ones in this room. Atop this large queen bed. I have not seen the man that called himself Michael since coming inside. I don't know what to make of this, of our situation, but I know we cannot stay here. It is not our place to have such luxuries.

"I'm worried. Will master come looking for us now?"

"Macey, did they say anything to you?" Amelia turns her gaze from comforting Cassie and stares at me with confusion and fear.

Shaking my head, I turn back and stare down at the fire. "No, but we cannot stay here."

"What do you mean? Do you think master is setting up some kind of test for us?" Cassie asks sounding more and more anxious.

"I don't think so Cass. I'm not sure who those men are, or how they knew where we were, but I don't think they are working for master."

"So we should stay here?"

"No." I say at the same time as Amelia nodding her head.

"Wait, you think we should run?" She asks looking at me with anger.

"We cannot stay here. These men, we know nothing about them. They say they are here to rescue us and take us home, but liars are among the men who kidnap."

"Doesn't that include master?" Cassie's innocence wears thin on my frustration.

"Wait a moment, they said they were here to rescue us? And that they were taking us home?" Amelia sits up, still holding Cassie to her with one arm but pointing at me with the other. "You didn't mention that Macey, you didn't mention that they spoke with you."

"What does it matter Amelia? Master Phillipe will have our heads for not trying to escape and get back to him."

"Get back to what? The mansion is destroyed. Fire was going off when we escaped. There is nothing to go back to."

"Then we rally the others and get out of here, make some kind of signal to let master know what is happening and where we are."

"I don't want to leave. I don't want to go back to him." Cassie states tears forming down her cheeks.

"That's not your choice. We belong to master. We are his slaves, his pets. No one takes that away for him."

The girls remain quiet as I steady my breathing. My heart aches at the unknowing. My anxious form craving for some kind of solitude. Why couldn't they leave me in the library? Why drag me and the girls away from our home? I had survived another punishment; master had forgiven me.

"Macey, listen to me."

"No." I stand, turning towards the window closed off with a cloth filled with patterns of red and gold. "I won't stay here."

"You can't escape. It's freezing out there. You will die trying to return to master."

"You are the one that told me I knew better; you are the on that scolded me for betraying master. I am now trying to go back to him, and I'm being ridiculed for that."

"You aren't going back to master for that reason." Amelia stands as well, leaving a frightened Cassie to shut her eyes in fear on the bed. "You're leaving because you're afraid to go back."

"Don't let those men fool you. They have no idea who we are. They only mean to confuse us with dreams of going back. We are no longer those girls. We never will be."

Amelia crosses her arms at her chest, tears brimming on the edge of her eyes. I wipe at mine, angry that I have allowed so much emotion to seep through. "If you wish to act a fool, and go out endangering your life, then you go right ahead. But I am staying here."

"Fine. Cassie are you coming with me?" I look behind Amelia, ignoring her presence and focus on Cassie. Her head shakes as she keeps her eyes closed, lowering her head back into her arms while crossed at her knees.

Shaking my head at their ignorance, I walk over to the window, open it, and crawl out. The sun is beginning to rise, confirming my guess as to what time they came into our home. We are on the second floor, but a small fire escape allows me to flow downward safely.

Ignoring the cold temperature, focusing solely on my destination. Looking around, I spot a few large SUV's where the vans were previously parked. A few men are curled in a circle, smoking cigarettes. They appear to be wearing the same uniform as the man that rescued me, so I walk backwards hoping to avoid them turning around.

Just as I turn, I run into a stronghold, something made of mass muscle. I look up and spot the man that I met in the library.

Michael.

"Sorry babe, can't have you trying to escape." He says softly, placing his large hand on my shoulder.

My instincts kick in and I kneel atomically. My knees crackle with pain as the cold cement seeps into them from the ground. I'm still in my cargo shorts and tank but I feel hot, sweaty and clammy.

"Shit, I'm sorry Whitney, I didn't mean to touch you." His voice sounds unhappy but instead of anger and annoyance, it's riddled with frustration and agony.

"Taylor, you good?" One of the men shout from behind me.

"Yeah, just giving her some fresh air." My eyebrows lower with confusion and I watch as Michael drops down onto his knees as well. His fingers grip my chin in a strong but gentle touch and raises my face to meet his gaze. "Not going to hurt you babe, but I can't have you hurting yourself either. It's gutting me watching you do this to yourself, so stand up for me, stand and let's come inside."

My eyes widen at his admission. I don't understand what he means when he compares his pain and hurt for mine. How can he be upset my body is in pain? It's something I am used to, yet it bothers him enough for him to lean onto the gravel, scrapping his knees as well.

I stand, hating myself for obeying this stranger. His fingers stay on my chin but there is something different about his touch. I felt it earlier when he had blocked my body from any pain he thought I would conflict when the door blew open in the library. It's warm, confident and open, not at all like the feeling of cold seeping hands and fingers that have roamed inside my body.

"There we go. Let's get you inside now. Your lips are turning blue." He whispers. His gaze lowers to my lips. I ignore it, instead I walk past him towards the entrance of the motel.

Coming back into the room, I spot the man I saw with Michael when he came into the library. He looks much like him, almost like twins, but whereas Michael has a strong chin and a darker, taller frame, this man is light. His dark blonde hair is longer, and his carefree expressions screams at him being the younger sibling.

"She good?" He asks.

"Yeah." Michael states from behind me. Placing his hand against my back he gives me a slight push, leading me back towards the bed. I crawl up along with Cassie who is starring down at her hands, and Amelia, who has not taken her eyes away from Michael's brother.

"Suppose we got off on the wrong foot girls. We didn't mean to make you question yourselves back there, we just needed you out, but I suppose not bothering to introduce ourselves was a little presumptions. I'm Cobi, and that's Mike. We really are here to take you back home, but there are a lot of things that must come first. If you guys need anything, or have a question about something, I want you to feel comfortable to come and speak with one of us."

The three of us stay silent. I don't trust these men. Michael has been nothing but calm and kind to me, but Master Phillipe has warned us against others that may someday come and take us away from him and what they would be like. We have gone to parties with master and seen what he was referring to. Numerous master's atop their slaves bodies, whippings until unconscious, even watching as they make their slaves kill each other in death matches. Master is kind to us, never hurting us past our punishments.

"Look, I know you all don't have to believe us, in fact you most likely don't. But we will not hurt you nor will anyone else." Michael begins looking me in my eyes then around the room.

"Now we are going to be leaving here soon, so you three just hang out in here and we will come get you when it's time. You need anything, we will be right outside that door." Cobi finishes, walking out towards the exit with Michael trailing behind him.

Amelia, Cassie and I stare at the door for a long time, neither of us knowing exactly what's next and what's to come.

Are we free to go?

Will there be any more master's?

And I am still broken.
