Capítulo 25: Before
" Z! Wait!" I was trying to catch up with her. She's older than me but we became close because she's always been kind to me.
I met her in school. I was a normal kid but I don't like to make friends, or rather, I don't know how.
"Look, there's the middle school girls doing cheer! Zoe is so beautiful!" the grade schoolers said while watching them. I was just staring while they do the routine. Thinking why they are so popular in school.
"Stop drooling kid. That girl's already taken. Hahaha haha!" Lance was a jerk and a bully.
When I entered middle school, I met Z because I became part of the student council.
"HI! Nice to meet you. My name is Zachary Karlee Benz. Just call me Karlee or Zack."
Zoe was the first one to reach out for my hand.
"I'm Zoe! Just Z." she smiled at me and made my day complete.
I was already into her, I fell even more when we got close and we started hanging out. But everything changed after my confession. She won't talk to me or hangout so I oftentimes just walk home alone and pass by my neighbor's house. Jadis' house.
I see her walk from school to her house, with her sister and practicing taekwondo on their yard in the morning.
I can hear piano and guitar in their house too. I live near their house and from my room, I can actually see their windows and yard. Our house was built on a higher ground.
She doesn't play outside though. I was waiting for her to come out but she doesn't.
Then, I heard someone sing one time on the side of the road. I stopped and listened intently, trying to figure out where it's coming from. I stopped on the side of their wall fence. It was Jadis. Singing.
I stayed there until she finished singing. Hearing her voice makes me calm. I always stand beside that fence since then. But sometimes I can hear Morgan sing. Her voice is different from her. Morgan's is more theatrical. Jadis has this power in her voice that captivates her listeners.
I got over my crush because of her voice. I only get to see her leave the house, just her back. She's usually running, in a rush. She is never outside all the time. I know I sound like a stalker but I can't help it. I was super curious about her. I only know her voice, her hair color, her school, but aside from that, nothing! I was too shy to say hi even though we're neighbors. And she's always at home, I don't really see her hang with her friends often.
I was fine just hearing her sing sometimes. I tried recording her voice on my phone but I guess it's not loud enough.
I'm on the second year of middle school when I got caught up in a mess where I thought the girl from the cheer was Jadis. I tried to gather up all my courage to introduce myself to this cheer girl but unfortunately, it was not her. The varsity of the basketball team actually got a crush on this cheer girl and I ended up getting threats and got beaten in the parking lot. I wasn't gonna fight back because I know it's my own stupidity that's why I got into this mess. That's when I got to encounter the real Jadis. The badass Jadis.
"Hey, what are you doing to him?" She was walking slowly towards our direction. At first I can't see her face. She looks so strained. But her eyes are so nice.
"None of your business, now walk away " a guy from varsity team threatened her but she didn't seem to budge.
"Three men against one? that's not fair" she stopped. put her bag on the side and loosened up some buttons on her sleeves.
I recognize her face now. She is our varsity from Taekwondo team. She is Jadis Chrysler
"You don't want to be involved in this. You'll get hurt." said by the other varsity guy who seems to not know her. Maybe they are too full of themselves that they don't know who they're talking to.
"No, I really don't, but I don't like seeing people beaten up unfairly ". Wow! Chivalry from a lady. Not a damsel in distress, I see.
Then the spiky-haired guy walked towards her.
He grabbed her collar and spoke to her face.
"You'll be next if you don't shut up" the moment this guy loosened his grip on her, Jadis tripped him.
The other two then approached her for a punch but she dodged and did some MMA move on them.
I stood up and helped her fight them.
I was actually bleeding from all the hits but I won't let her fight them alone. Not when she's so badass. I'll look like a wimp.
After some kicking and punching, the three men ran away having their own black eyes and bruises.
"You okay," she asked then I nodded.
"You want to go to the hospital? " she sounded concerned. Or does she pity me because I got beaten up and I needed her help to beat them up? I never needed her help.
At first I didn't know it was her. All I know is that she is badass. She fought like a thug with class.
"No. Leave me alone" I blurted out. I didn't know why I felt annoyed or maybe because I was in pain so I can't control my emotions.
"Ok. No need to thank me, mister," she sounded sarcastic. I wasn't reasonable with my answer either.
"Yeah, don't wait for any" was all I could say. She left and then I went to the hospital for my wounds.
That weekend, I was just doing some errands for my mom. I wasn't planning to do anything after so I just walked downtown. Wearing my geek glasses and cap, I don't think anyone from school would notice me.
I passed by this karaoke contest. As I was about to leave, I saw a familiar face. It was her, the badass chick who fought the varsity boys. I stopped and watched her sing. I was stunned. It was that voice. Jadis! But she said her name is DYLAN? does Morgan and Jadis have another sibling? She won the amusement tickets. I think she have a boyfriend and she's eager to get those for their date.
Fuck man. I want to know who is this guy she is dating.
I was so excited, like a kid going on a field trip the next day, I wasn't able to sleep. I stayed up all night watching the video I took on that karaoke place. I need to hear and see her sing now. Now that the blank face of that beautiful voice is already filled, I would do anything that's possible to get closer to her.
It all started when I auditioned in the band and I desperately want her to audition too but she didn't. So I made move and invited her to join the band. There were so many things that I didn't know. Like the fact that she knows how to play the guitar, and sing at the same time.
Also that Jaz Ford is into her.
Plus. I suggested that I can be her fake boyfriend!
Zachary Karlee Benz, what were you thinking? idiot!
