Finally when she reached the place where they were, she caught her breath and prepared herself to speak. But before she could she heard something. The door was ajar and she was able to hear their voices.
"Today marks the union of our two great kingdoms. Cheers!" Hendrickson's clinked the glass with Themisto and then emptied it in one gulp.
Themisto was disinterested in making any remarks about the incidents that happen prior to this conversation, so he decided not to respond.
"I am glad our children will be tying the knot but more than that I am happy that now we might have a chance at deceiving the werewolf spies who were present in the ballroom today. Now all they will report back would be the thing that we are not paying any attention to them when in truth we will be prepared when they strike. Thanks to you my friend, if you haven't agreed then we wouldn't have made our first move." He added as he moved around the table, realizing his friend was ignoring him.
Selene who was eavesdropping realized why it was important to announce such news, but still she was not over the fact that she was somehow used in this.
"I only agreed because I believe Alexander and Selene make a good couple. Other than that, I don't have any interest in robbing my daughter of her freedom." He was still livid about the fact that Selene's choice was completely ignored.
"Think about it Themisto, you saw how happy she was with my son. And I am sure she would be rejoicing in happiness right now after hearing the news. And if this announcement helps with our war problem then where's the fault in that. It is like killing two birds with a stone." Hendrickson reasoned with him but Themisto had no interest at all.
"Whatever! let's just discuss about the next strategy!" Themisto said.
Selene who had been listening to the conversation between her father and King Hendrickson felt like a mere pawn, who was being sacrificed in a game. She dashed away from the place and somehow made it out of the palace. Right now she wanted to run far away from the castle, from everyone, so she can somehow flee away the things that were beginning to eat her from the inside.
Everyone was so occupied with the celebration that no one noticed a young girl running away from the castle. Themisto and Hendrickson were engaged in their strategy planning and later were joined by their wives as all of them discussed about the future of their children.
Callisto, Oberon, Tethys and Ariel were conversing with other members of Santok while Alexander was occupied with the other people who blessed him and the future queen. None of them noticed the missing princess at all. Although Callisto and Ariel wondered why Selene wasn't anywhere to be seen, but they thought she must be busy negotiating with their father.
As the time went unnoticed, Selene had advanced further away from the castle and into the forest which separated the wolf territory with Santok. Unbeknownst that it was a full moon night, when the wolves roamed freely into the woods, she sprinted further inside the forest.
The heavy ball gown that she was wearing got stuck several times in the bushes but that didn't stop her at all, instead she dashed with even more force so that nothing would keep her behind and in doing so the fabric of the gown was torn apart from the bottom. Her hair which were neatly tied up came out of the tie and were hanging long. As she advanced into the dark, she received scratches and cuts on her hands and feet but she didn't bother at all.
When her feet finally gave out, she stopped at a cliff and dropped on the ground. There was a clearing in the forest where the cliff was situated. The thick canopy of the forest was interrupted by a river running through the middle of the middle of the forest and separating the two cliffs. there was a shower on the other cliff from which the water fell at an intense speed and with loud noise. The silvery light of the full moon adorned the spot as the water from the shower reflected its essence before finally falling into the river at the bottom of the two cliffs.
Selene's face was already smeared with tears which pooled out of her eyes while she was running away. Her heart was already weak with the announcement her father made but amidst the quiet of the forest and the splashing sound of the water, she could finally let everything out from the depth of her heart. She felt her throat closing up and tears followed. Hugging her knees she began to writhe in misery.
