"Josie, are you okay?" Lilian asked, banging heavily on the door. Joseline had locked herself unknowingly and there was a heavy rushing sound coming from the bathroom; a sound as if the wave from a waterfall had suddenly been put in the room.
"What is happening in there talk to us!" Evangeline screamed.
Joseline's heart was in her chest pounding. As much as she tried to control the broken water tap, she couldn't. She stared at her shaking hands holding the broken tap. Her bones continued cracking, constant pain striking heavily on her body.
'W—what is happening to me?! Why are you doing this to me? Please stop!' Joseline wailed at the top of her voice internally, literally speaking to the voice she heard. She stared at her trembling hands now changing into what she couldn't comprehend. Her nails began to elongate. And her voice...she couldn't speak anymore.
Lux continued to gain her entrance into her body, but the mighty force was still there, blocking all her efforts.
"Joseline talk to us! Open the door, right now!" Lilian called.
Joseline faced the door. She made to stand, forcing herself towards the door, but it felt like her feet were stiff and glued to the floor.
'Lily! Grandma! H—help me!' Joseline tried to cry out, but her tongue felt tied. Having a feeling as if someone was pouring hot coal on her, she groaned.
'ARRGHHH!' Joseline roared more in agony, feeling the pain like every bone in her body was wrecking. It was totally different from the usual burning chest pain she endured from her asthma. Her eyes were completely becoming blurry. She felt like the darkness had successfully encircled her.
'M—my hands. Arghhhh!'
'Endure your shifting, Joseline. It is fate!' Lux wept.
'Someone help me!' Joseline felt a flash of light in her eyes. Through the bathroom mirror that hung on the wall, she stared at the reflection of herself where some of her hair was changing to silver, the colour of a glittering moon.
And...and...her eyes turned to a complete silver colour, removing completely the hint of blue in it. Her eyes' colour was now so bright that they shone luminously on the mirror, sending the strike of it back to her face. She forced her hands up and shaded the extraordinary light. Suddenly the mirror began to crack from her intense gaze on it.
"Lilian where is the key?!" The voice of Evangeline could be heard almost yelling down the house.
"I—can't find where she kept the keys," Lilian shouted back, her fingers dangling through Joseline's belongings in other to find the bathroom door key but it was like the key had been cruelly hidden.
"Try and ask her where she kept the keys!" Lilian shouted.
"She's not speaking. M—My Grandchild is not speaking." Grandma's eyes were now heavy with tears. What will she do to save her loving Joseline?
Hearing the screams, the maids came running in, each holding a look of fear in their eyes. They prayed to heaven that Joseline's sickness would spare her for today she would be getting married.
Just then, Mark Pedro's driver ran in, holding a hammer in his hand. "Ma'am Lilian, we only have one option and that is to break the door!" Mark shouted.
Since there was no other option left, Grandma and Lilian approved of it.
"Hurry up, what else are you waiting for?! Break the door!"
Joseline sat on the floor sobbing, every inch of her body churning and agonizing with pain. From the elbow of her two hands, had now formed long white hairs down to her fully elongated claws. The look of them sent shivers down her spine. Afraid of her own body, she continued to hear a rapid banging from the door.
The broken tap was still rushing heavy water down the sink.
She sank her head into her knees to comfort herself, but she quavered the moment she saw her white furs sprawled on her skin which irritated her more. She felt the need to run out of her own body because everything felt irritating to her. How could she have furs on her hands like animals?
Is that what she would be called now? A frail animal? She scoffed bitterly.
'No, no. NO!!!'
A strong wave struck her, sending her crashing into the wall. Still in a lot of pain, she felt suffocated; like every breath she took was made of fire. She couldn't stand it anymore, she needed help.
'No! I don't want this to happen to me!' Joseline tried to voice out her scream but her tongue couldn't let her. It felt so wooden and tied.
Unable to speak, she prayed internally, 'Dear Lord, help me now.'
After a minute or so, as if her prayer couldn't wait to be answered, all of the strange things in her body began to disappear. 'J—just like that?' Joseline questioned inwardly, her stiff feet loosened, and cold sweat ran down her whole body. But she was too weak to stand.
Just then the banging on the door finally turned into a burst. The door swung open. Lilian, Grandma, Mark and the maids scurried beside Joseline.
"Joseline!" All of them shouted at once, Lilian wrapping her arms around her. Mark lifted Joseline, carrying her back into her room.
After a moment, Joseline sat on her bed, leaning her back against the bedrest. She rested her head on the pillow, her eyes forced closed as she struggled to bear the painful memory of her moment. She stared blankly at all of them and silent cold tears trailed off her eyes.
She couldn't bear the pain of seeing her loved ones weep because of her. She couldn't take it anymore. But what can she do?
Staring at them and getting tired of everything, her body became weaker, her eyes lowered and finally, everything finally closed up in her eyes.
"Joseline?" Lilian shook her slightly.
"Joseline," Grandma called, the maids called, but Joseline was out of the real world. She fell unconscious.
"No, no, Joseline can't fall unconscious now. Today is her wedding day. S—she can't just faint. Call the doctor now!" Lilian screamed at the top of her voice. "Call the doctor!"
