Evangeline faced the window and after a minute of gazing into space again, she went out of the room leaving Lilian's unanswered curiosity.
Now inside her room, Evangeline made sure her door was locked. In a corner of her room was a faint mark on the floor which was seen by only her. Quickly, she went straight to the mark and touched it with her fingers, the floor opened displaying a small hole. Inside the hole was a book wrapped with ancient ribbon and gold letters written on the cover.
Being a wolf and one of the seven elders of the werewolves which was hidden from the eyes of everyone, Evangeline was assigned by the moon goddess to guide Joseline until the prophecy was completely fulfilled and she had access to this great book.
She took it out and the title came into view. 'The ancient book of the werewolf kingdom: The Power of Angeline the Great Luna and Conqueror.'
Dusting the surface of the book, she turned to a particular page immediately. Page 304. Again, she read those words which she had already mastered. But to specify things, she began to read them again.
[In the leap year of February 26th, 1988, she would be lured to her mate and the curse would be lifted totally through the intimate bond.
To reclaim her abilities and her wolf, the earth will go completely dark as a result of the eclipse. This eclipse will serve as a sign that the prophecy has been fully realized and mercy has been granted.]
Now Evangeline stared at the words for a while and shook her head vehemently. It was 28th already and all the moon goddess said had not been fully completed. There must be something wrong.
'Why is the prophecy not complete yet? Why has Joseline not shifted?' She asked internally a bitter tear began to form in her eyes.
She had noticed the way her body looked stronger. That could only mean she had mated and her sickness curse had been lifted. But how did it happen? Who was this man? Where can she find him?
Closing the book, she dropped it back in the hole, and by touching the floor, the hole closed, leaving the mark on the floor visible in her eyes.
She stood and went to the window again as if the window had become her companion and the sky her comforter.
Evangeline's thoughts became disorganized, confusion evident in her raven-black eyes.
Her eyes fell on the sun which moved steadily in her eyes, sending a chill to her deserted mind. The wind waved on her face and she began to mumble to herself.
'I made sure all my works in the life of Joseline was fulfilled before this day when the prophecy should have been fulfilled, one of which is to bridge any man requesting her hand in marriage and also to make sure she never made love to any man.' Evangeline had achieved this by manipulating Pedro's senses and initiating his mind to go against any marriage that comes his daughter's way.
All these years she had been making sure that no man married or made love to her to keep the prophecy made by the moon goddess. How sad she was one of the causes of her granddaughter's unfulfilled relationship. But Joseline would not understand it now.
Unknown to Joseline, Pedro and Lilian, this was to make sure the prophecy was safely fulfilled. But now, how come her magic didn't work on Pedro to bridge this one? How come the prophecy of the moon goddess has not been completely fulfilled? Nothing said by the moon goddess goes undone. There must be something wrong somewhere. She was afraid.
She returned home immediately when Lilian told her Joseline was getting married. But till this point, as Pedro was engrossed in making sure Joseline got married, she was helpless in stopping it.
'How will I stop this marriage now? This must not happen. I must make sure Joseline has shifted otherwise it will bring eternal destruction to our kind.'
Her body began to shimmer, and a feeling of a chilling cold sipped down her body.
She needed to do something quickly before it was too late.
'Oh moon goddess, why haven't you kept your promise to us? I have kept Joseline, protecting her and waiting for the day she would be set free. Please have mercy on us moon goddess.' She bowed her head and her tears finally dropped. Just then a scream from the bathroom where Joseline was brushing shook her up.
What is happening to her?
★_____★
Inside the bathroom, Joseline was staring at herself when she suddenly heard a strange sound and somehow, this strange sound made her body wash with cold.
"What is that sound?" She whispered to herself and felt her palms become cold.
She looked around the bathroom in alert, but there was nothing else in the room except for the bathtub and the mirror with the little makeup kits inside the basket.
But she could feel the sound very close to her heart her palm felt colder with each passing minute.
In an attempt to pinpoint where the strange howl came from which felt more like the call of Peter in the wilderness, she drew herself towards the window.
Looking out through the window, her silver-blue eyes scanned the whole area but there was no one nor a sign available. She quickly shook the thought aside and went back to continue brushing.
Seeing Joseline leave the window, Lux came out of her hiding place, making herself visible. Without hesitation, she began to howl, hoping it would connect more powerfully to the mind link of Joseline.
Hearing this strange howl again, Joseline returned to the window. Looking down through the window, she saw that same white-haired animal from last night. It had eyes shining like silver. This time it didn't appear like a vision, it looked real.
On the body of the animal were white furs with white smoke revolving around them, emitting a chilling yet enchanting aura. "What type of creature is that?" Joseline squinted to have a closer look at the sight before her, but the smoke that looked more like ice evaporating made it hard for her to understand what animal it was.
"Joseline!" Lux continued to call, drawing her spirit with her powers. More smoke began to emerge from Lux's body, forming a thick circle around her, but an enormous power continued to bridge her entrance into Joseline's body.
Joseline continued to stare in astonishment at the white creature before her eyes. Looking deeply at it, she noticed in the animal's eyes; a deep hollow, and a heavy cloud of sadness that drew her soul towards it.
She couldn't understand a bit what was happening, but slowly her body began to welcome this howl. She could feel it like it was drawing her soul to the verge of darkness. Like she was trapped between its chains.
"What is happening to me? Why do I feel itches on my skin?" Joseline murmured. The more she listened to the strange howl, the more she felt the sight in her eyes drawing her soul and spirit.
"No, no. This can't just be my illusion again. This feels so real." Panicking Joseline began to shudder away from the window, dragging her feet back to the sink where she was brushing her teeth.
Her head felt heavy like bricks had been loaded in her head. The strange howl continued, and darkness began to take control of her vision, everything was becoming a blur in her eyes.
Hastily, Joseline turned on the tap, splashing the water quickly on her face, but the darkness entrapping her persisted.
Outside Lux continued to howl. 'As promised by the moon goddess and the seven elders, it's time to return to you, Joseline.'
"Argh!" Joseline felt a sharp pain knock in her chest.
'The time has come, bond broken. Return or we all perish. Remember what we fought for, so return!' Lux echoed.
"Arghhhh!" Another strong knock struck her chest, rocketing down to her inner core. "What is this? What is happening to me? No, no, not today. This can't be happening now!"
'The time has come for you to go back to what you were, to take control of what you fought for!'
"Arghhhh!" Joseline couldn't bear the pain anymore, it surged enormously through her veins. Not only did she hear a strange howl, but a strange voice joined too. 'Who are you? Where are you? W—What are you talking about?' Joseline began to look around her bathroom.
'Come close to the window and look down, you will see me.'
'Y—you hear my thoughts too?'
'Yes,'
'How could that be?'
'I am you and you're me. We're bonded to be one' Lux responded.
Joseline began to force herself back to the window. Looking down, the strange creature was still there, and now its glowing eyes stared at her.
'What do you mean by all of that?' Joseline asked.
'You are a wolf. A shifter.' Lux responded.
Joseline scoffed, shaking her head vehemently, "Stupid, I knew it. It was my illusion after all," She murmured.
'If it's your illusion, why do you feel real pain right now? Why do you hear my thoughts?'
'No, it can't be. I will wake up and forget about this. I'm sure this is a dream. I will wake up and forget about this.' She put her finger in her ears in an attempt to block the voice. But it never happened. The voice persisted.
'You just woke up right now, remember? How can you say you're dreaming? You can't stop it, Josie. It's your destiny and it can't be changed.'
"No! Don't talk to me!" Joseline ran back to the sink and splashed more water on her face, but it seemed it increased the pain and the hotness she felt in her body.
'I'm sorry for making you go through this much pain.' Lux said and began to take herself into Joseline.
Crack!
"Arghhhh!" Joseline screamed as she felt the bones in her body deform.
"What is happening? No! Lilian!" Joseline yelled her heart out.
