Virion POV
"General Varay call for Arthur's family, the twin horns, and Tessia he needs someone to wake him up right now. He needs an anchor, something to hold on to or he will be just a weapon" I said
Varay nodded and left the room
I reached for the recording artifact and pondered if I should show it to them or not, they'll be confused about why I need them to comfort Arthur if I don't show them in the other hand would they still view Arthur the same after seeing it. Even I nearly view the boy differently had it not been the fact that his father just recently died in battle. I kept thinking about what I should show, the last part would be unnecessary unless they want to continue to the end. I decided I'll just show them the ice coffin for now.
Tessia POV
I was surprised to receive a call from the commander because ever since I joined the war he never requests my presence or calls me. So as I was walking down the hallway I saw Sylvie walking around when I got close it seemed like she was depressed.
"What's the matter Sylv?" I asked
"It's Arthur," She said in a depressed tone
My eyes widened
"Is he ok?" I asked
"He's far from ok he's changed and he even cut off our mental link," She said as tears began to form
"What do you mean by he's changed?" I asked
Sylvie didn't answer and just kept walking. A few minutes later we arrived at the commander's office. When I entered the office there were many people inside, the twin horns, and Arthurs family.
"I'm sorry for the sudden call but I need all your help," He said
"We would love to help but what are we helping with," Alice said
"Arthur" He replied
Everyone was confused and worried, worried that something had happened to him, and that's when Grandpa took out a recording artifact and played it. We all watched in silence the aftermath of Arthur's work even Alice had to cover Ellie's eyes and ears but Ellie said she wanted to see this through. The recording was paused after there was a scream.
"Continue it," Helen said
"I'm not sure if you want Eleanor to see the rest," Virion said
"No, I want to see it" Ellie replied which received disapproval from some people while some stayed silent still gazing on the ice coffin on the recording
In the end, Ellie stayed and the recording was resumed the next few scenes nearly made me throw up as I felt the food I had from breakfast wanting to come out as I saw the sight of Arthur slowly dismantling an enemy mage healing him enough so he won't die. Everyone had the same reaction from me as I saw all their faces pale, and some even had traces of fear on their face.
"This happened just yesterday when Arthur completed his mission," Grandpa said
"Please I need you all to help comfort him, or I'm afraid he'll be like that even after the war" He continued
"We'll do whatever it take commander even if you didn't ask he's our family after all," Helen said
"Now he should be in the training room," Grandpa said
We all walked towards the training room together even from the outside we felt great pressure from the inside, we coated ourselves in mana before opening the door. When we entered loud explosions could be heard as we all saw Arthur training. We've all seen how Arthur trained but we've never seen how far he can go and this just proved that he never gave it his all before, as I saw pillars of ice, the ground burnt and the surrounding still had water and lightning, we walked in carefully to see Arthur practicing his sword his expression the same as when he was in the recording expressionless while his gaze was also empty, his blue azure eyes that once brought brightness now a calm and deep-sea that could swallow anything that enters. His swordsmanship seems a lot more deadlier as all his strikes focused on vital points and muscles as he slashed the training dummies he made out of earth magic.
Helen was the first one to approach, but even she was having a hard time continuing to move forward as Arthur's pressure was out but it wasn't like he was angry or sad, it was more like a predator's calm but dominating and wild aura and we were his prey. We didn't have a hard time breathing unlike killing intent or blood lust, but our instinct screamed at us to run far away to not get near him to survive. It was like walking towards death and death itself.
"Arthur?" Helen called but was ignored as Arthur just kept on slashing and striking the earth dummy.
We were forced to get closer to Arthur as we struggle to push down the fear that was bubbling inside us I could see everyone struggling to not run away, even Sylvie felt this feeling, a mighty dragon was struck in fear of someone she once saw as a father figure. We finally got close enough that when Helen called him for the second time he turned his gaze towards us, he didn't seem happy or angry he just had the same expression as he sheeted his sword and walked towards us slowly.
"What brings you here?" He asked
"We heard from the commander and we're here to help you Arthur do you want to talk about it?" Helen asked
"No I don't need anything to talk about nor anyone to talk to I just need to be stronger" He replied in a cold and dangerous tone
"You promised you wouldn't change," Sylvie said
"And that was a promise I couldn't keep" He replied as he walked past us and left the room not even bothering to look back
We stood still for a moment until Helen slammed her bow on the ground and cursed, we felt powerless in front of him, we felt fear creeping on us when he said it with that tone, a sentence I could never forget.
I didn't just stay still, I ran after him with Sylvie beside me as we chased after him. We arrived in front of his room where I could feel he was in there. I knocked on the door and there was no response. I knocked again to be met with the same results. I didn't even bother to knock anymore and just came inside to see Arthur meditating as I felt mana flowing inside him but it was too calm usually you'd have some mana that would act out but his mana was as calm as a deep endless ocean sea, and that was even more frightening to see. I waited on a chair for him to finish while I talked to Sylvie.
"What did you mean by he promised he won't change," I asked
"I'm sorry but I have no right to tell because it is his story not mine" She replied
We waited for Arthur to open his eyes and when he did he stared at the both of us for a while then
"What are you two doing here?" He asked with an annoyed tone
"Arthur we need to talk," Sylvie said
"No we don't Sylv what I need is to get stronger same goes for the two of you too," He said coldly
"Keep this up and I'll tell them about it," She said
I could feel Arthur release his bloodlust a feeling that was much more frightening than the one he had when he was sitting on the mountains of corpses as this one made me and Sylvie fell on our knees afraid of him.
"You know what feel free to do it I don't care anymore," He said angrily as he stormed out of his room
Soon later guards flooded the room because of the amount of bloodlust they felt apparently the whole castle felt it as hundreds of guards and nobles passed out and were sent to the medic room.
I told them of what happened and they just nodded and left after they left I went to grandpa's office with Sylvie
"He's not listening to us at all," I said
He just sighed but we were interrupted by a series of knocks
"Commander General Arthur just left to Elshair," A guard said in a panicked voice
I could see my grandfather stiffened as I asked
"What's wrong with Elshair?" I asked
"I don't know why but the alacryans sends a lot of mages to Elshair" He replied
I felt my heart sink as flashbacks of what Arthur did came through me.
"We need to get him out of there now," I said panicked
"I know" He shouted
"You call Lance Varay and Aya" Virion shouted at the guard as he also stood up
"Both of you follow me," He said as we ran towards the portal room
But when we got there the room was wrecked as the guards were knocked out and the portal still leading to Elshair.
When we went in we were greeted by Aya
"What happened commander?" Aya asked
"Find Arthur and bring him back immediately after Lance Varay arrive," Grandpa said
We knew that the best thing to do is to move now but we needed to be save because Arthur wasn't really mentally stable right now. Half an hour had passed as we finally saw Lance Varay come through the portal.
"What happened commander?" She asked
"Arthur went out on his own to there," Grandpa said as he pointed at a direction
"Oh no isn't that where an alacryan camp was reported to be sighted," Varay said her voice had a hint of fear as Grandpa only nodded
We all went there as fast as possible only to be greeted by screams of pain and a destroyed Alacryan camp as their camps burnt some even completely frozen. A lot of Alacryan mages were dismantled we all stood in fear at the sight before us when we suddenly spotted Arthur fighting dozen of mages himself slowly cutting them off one by one and leaving them bleeding in the ground as he only went for their cores rather than their lives, we knew what he was doing he was going to do the same thing he did before. When I turned towards Aya a lance that loved to participate in torture even she found this method too brutal because she usually only torture people mentally.
As the battle was nearing its end we could only see and watch silently as Arthur cleaned the blade of his sword that was covered with blood while sitting on top of the pile of corpses. He then started to walk towards the ones who were alive until General Varah and Aya stepped in
"Enough Arthur," Aya said
Arthur didn't answer as he only stared at them with his empty gaze. He then turned towards us but turned back towards General Varay and General Aya and kept walking towards the enemy mages ignoring Varay and Aya as even they struggle to keep up from the pressure and bloodlust Arthur was releasing as he walked past them and knelt in front of a mage his hand covering the mage's mouth. He spoke something I couldn't hear from here and the mage nodded hastily. Arthur released his grip and started to talk, and the mage kept replying without hesitation and keeping Arthur waiting until Arthur nodded and killed the mage.
I turned towards Grandpa to him shocked at what he had just witnessed as he turned his gaze towards the Lances who were ready to suppress Arthur, but Arthur didn't care and continued on until Varay froze him in his tracks and Aya appeared behind Arthur with a dagger pressed on Arthur's neck.
Sylvie POV
Arthur my master, my bond, my father figure, and my friend the one who had been beside me ever since I came to live. Seeing him right now pains me as I've seen Arthur's memory of his past life and what he did there, still I had hope that he won't return but seeing this bloody battlefield Arthur created drowned any form of hope I've had. Ever since the war started Arthur wasn't brutal or cruel he just cut his enemies and kill them. But the him now was different as he kept on aiming to destroy the enemy's mana core leaving them crippled for him to torture later saying that he was interrogating him.
The limbs of countless mages missing and scattered on the ground the many howls of pain that resonated around the battlefield. When I saw this I have now accepted that he has changed and we all needed to punch him back into the right track, but what kind of dream is that as we could only shiver in fear just by him simply gazing at us with his empty gaze, and expressionless face.
Back then I wanted to snap him out to let him talk to me about his feelings but before I could do that he cut off our mental link leaving me all alone in the dark as I can only see him now slowly returning to his old ways and destroying any form of happiness he had. I knew he wanted to change he wanted to feel again ever since he came to this world but in the end, he couldn't as the death of his father was like a trigger for him and he soon became lost as he was once again swallowed by the ghost of his past, the shadow of who he once was a cold-blooded weapon made to kill and to be used to strike down enemies.
I watched as Arthur killed a mage after getting what he wanted not even shedding any form of mercy or guilt. When I saw his feet frozen and Aya behind him holding his neck with a knife I wanted to step in but for who? Arthur? of the one who he is now Grey? I held back my tears at the thought of Arthur turning back to Grey as he will only want to get strong and won't bother to live like a normal person ever again. Thankfully Arthur stand down as he placed his sword back in his ring and walked back towards the portal where he came from not bothering to come to us he just simply left and the worst part of it was I couldn't even feel the emotion he was feeling or if he felt anything at all.
Tessia POV
When we arrived at the castle my immediate action was going towards Arthur's room to confront him, but that was easy to imagine rather than to do it in real life as I still couldn't forget the recorded scenes and the scenes I saw live. When I arrive in front of Arthur's room he was just sitting on his chair his hand holding a book about elements. I walked towards him with Sylvie behind me who didn't even want to look at Arthur anymore.
"We need to talk," I said firmly as I took a seat next to him
"I told you .."
"For God, sake listen to yourself for once or look at what you did and think clearly for a moment," I said cutting him off
"Art I know the loss of your father may or did change you but that doesn't mean that you could just throw everyone out of your life even Sylvie who you once viewed as your own daughter," I said a little angry but also afraid of how he'll react
"So what if I want to push everyone out? What if I viewed all of you as a distraction a weakness an obstacle? What can you do? Nothing and that is something that won't change because you are not capable of doing nor changing anything" He replied his gaze fixed to mine as his expressionless face stared at me
"You are just a princess in danger for all I know ever since I met you, Tess, you've managed to get yourself kidnapped twice that could've led to your death." He said which broke my confidence as I felt tears running down my cheeks
"Look you haven't even changed from when I first met you still crying whenever you felt that you are wrong or powerless" He continued
"Enough Arthur," Sylvie said with anger as she held me
"You wanted to talk to me when you know how weak you are to insults and how easy you are to be provoked next time maybe have a plan at least if you're going to try and comfort someone else," He said as I heard his chair move and he left his room. I burst into tears in Sylvie's embrace as I felt the Arthur I knew was no longer in there he was replaced by someone else.
