Capítulo 5: Unlike the rest Part 1

*Alice Leywin's POV*

My boys were the most adorable babies, I don't say this because I am a doting mother, because I am not a doting mother.

No.

Andy's long locks of ashen brown hair and Art's patch of scruffy auburn hair, along with intelligent and glowing eyes that they both shared. However the look within them couldn't be more different. Art's seemed to gleam with a playful intelligence, while Andy's eyes held a stern smartness within their depths.

However, I am still not a doting mother, no no. I shall be strict and just, as I can't rely on my husband to be. For the love of God he tried to teach the boys fighting by the time they could crawl. I thought with me telling him off after his attempt on Andy he wouldn't try with Art too!

In the end, I knew the little rascals would end up like their father. Their eyes both shone in excitement when they saw their father practice.

In all honesty, it was one of the few time's Andy would express himself in such a way. That realisation hit me rather hard...

On the bright side, they were the opposite of their father when it came to toys. Instead they would often scurry off to the study, rather than play with the wooden toys or stuffed animals. It was odd considering how Reynolds would often gravitate away from such things. 'They must have inherited it from me' I thought with a proud smile. 'I'll make sure to teach them everything I know, and we can spend lots of time together.'

*cough* not a doting mother. *cough*. It's for their education.

My boy's were interested in so many things, I can't get enough seeing their heads turn to take everything in. They took a particular interest in Reynolds' practices, as I mentioned earlier their eyes shine with excitement.

Reynolds was a rather competent adventurer at the time, rising to the rank of B-class by the age of 28. Quite fast in the adventuring world. Acquiring E-class required a test to prevent the guild hall sending out underprepared, eager and ignorant adolescents to their deaths. As for the higher ranks, I have only ever seen a few A-ranks during my time at the guild, but never an S-class adventurer. That was if they even existed at this point.

Back at the guild hall in Valden, I witnessed too many teens with an overinflated ego, who would try to bite off more than they could chew. I'm honestly surprised their heads could fit through the door.

At least they had ambition...

Once upon a time I was asked to proctor a basic practical exam. The criteria being, demonstrate your competency in mana manipulation. That was it. But before we could even begin, the kid toppled backwards due to the weight of the sword on his back.

Airheads sure came in droves, Reynolds being one of them way back when. His jaw hung low the moment he looked at me, as he was frozen in place staring, they young man behind him elbowed him out of his daze. He hurriedly moved along, muttering to the receptionist to trade in the goods he had acquired during his quest.

He eventually coughed up the courage to ask me out and from there, the rest is history.

Art wound up with both of our redeeming feature's, while Andy was a perfect mixture of the two. In the end, they both ended up even more adorable because of it.

The next landmark to make it into my journal was when Art first said mama. That was not because I am a doting mother.

But he said mama!

I coerced him into repeating it, just to make sure I didn't hear him wrong. This caused Rey to sulk when little Art wouldn't say "dada"

Haha, I won... or so I thought. Immediately after I thought I had triumphed, much to my dismay, little Andy crushed it under his thumb and said "Dada". Now it was my turn to sulk, as I couldn't get him to say "mama".

But the most confusing part was when the pair smiled at each other, almost as if they had planned it, or at least found what the other was doing amusing.

In the end they reversed roles and said opposite things!

When I got over the joy being called "mama" by both my babies, I couldn't tell whether it was a coincidence or not.

However, the rest of the year went pleasantly. My sons sticking to me like glue as I watched Reynolds practice. I'm glad Reynolds traded out the job to be security for our small town, while he may make less money, the security of having him come home every night meant exponentially more to me then a few more coins. More so after that incident...

Much to my relief, the boys never got sick, although Andy would often end up hurting himself doing God knows what. And I would often find the two sitting together with their eyes shut. At first I thought it was due to difficulty relieving themselves, after multiple checks, a good majority of the time that ended up not being the case.

Especially with Andy, the boy hated the feeling of being dirty once he recognised it. His cute little waddle and squeak of "mama" whenever he needed cleaning was almost too much for me.

Even still, I didn't know what to make of it. I originally thought babies were energetic and flighty, but after their multiple mad dashes to escape to the study, it was almost like they were meditating. While it happened a few times a day, I wasn't worried as it didn't last too long. Although little Andy would spend a few extra minutes. But they were oddly pleased when they withdrew from the study so I didn't mind.

Maybe they just enjoyed the quiet. Andy's small smile and the way Art threw his arms up while they both looked at me made me want to gobble them up in a huge hug.

*cough* I am not a doting mother *cough*
