"Is this... my son?" He asked.
His voice reverberated in the air, causing a lingering feeling of fear even in his wife.
No one dared to answer, scared of the result.
The old man spared the dark-skin baby another look, disgust littered across his face like an unkempt street.
"Don't kill it." He said. "Throw it away."
With those words the old man left, his back turned to everyone who spared another look at his mighty visage.
Before Jason could think anymore, the maid holding him hurriedly dropped him on the cradle in the room.
The baby couldn't help but smile, even though it didn't know what throw him away meant. He was sure that it would be OK as in the novel this old man was kind at heart, he certainly couldn't throw away his son whom his wife gave birth to.
…
An old man standing at 6'3 stood in a room, around him were several old men with the exception of a seemingly middle-aged man.
The middle-aged man wore regal dressing, unlike the other people in the room whom were bald he was the only one whom had hair, blue hair for the fact.
His red eyes shown with age and wisdom as he looked at the old bald man that had entered the room.
"Was it successful?" The middle-aged man asked.
"Yes, patriarch." He bowed his head facing the floor.
"What is his potential?" The patriarch asked another question.
"M- my great lord..." He said, his voice sounding like he was crying.
"Yes." The patriarch said impatiently.
"He is- He is dark-skinned!" The old man stammered.
It was at this moment that tears flowed freely from his eyes, he had disappointed the lord of the clan. He was incompetent!
Silence rained for minutes as the patriarch digested the words the old man spoke.
"Did you kill the creature?"
"No, great lord." He said that quickly to avoid stammering.
"Do not kill the creature. If we kill the creature the other clans will use it as an advantage against us." The patriarch spoke, wisdom seen in his words. "Rather keep the creature in isolation and do not let it out, not once."
"Yes great lord." The bowing old man said, his sobbing unheard.
However he still bowed, knowing the patriarch was in a foul mood due to what happened he knew would be begging to incur his wrath if he got up.
"You are dismissed..."
The bowing old man got up, he was about to leave the room.
"...But if I ever see that 'son' of yours or he ever sets foot put of this residence neither you or your so-called son will be able to tell the tale of what will happen to the both of you." He threatened.
"Thank you for your benevolence."
…
The baby looked at the trouble that he had gotten into.
'If I had known it would end up like this I would have rather been hit by all the sports cars.' He sighed, though it was cute coming out of a baby.
'Being reborn into a crazy fantasy world yet having no talent for magic, how grand. And I get to live at that, wasting my days like this.'
Though dark-skinned children were despised by the clan they were still alive.
Being dark-skinned meant that you weren't able to use magic, the whole concept this world revolved around.
It was a disease because everyone even commoners were passively reinforced by magic until they reached 18 but the same couldn't be said for- well you know what I'm going to say.
However, people like him didn't receive that passive reinforcement making them somewhat weak and frail when compared to normal people.
Then there was also the fact that dark-skinned people had the most gruesome, painful deaths. And that was something considering the author was killing everyone left and right.
It got to the point that the MC died once but they brought him to life again.
'Back to the task at hand, if the afterlife includes where you didn't want to go to he felt sorry for people who believe in heaven.' he thought.
Several maids were going entering the room and dropping various things inside the room he currently stayed in. It looked like resources, something not very common.
He had been deprived of milk, but he didn't think about that as he even forgot babies were supposed to be fed milk. Though his throat felt parched he didn't mind that, he blamed it on his incessant crying.
The baby continued crying for several hours but nobody paid heed to it.
'Fuck, I don't think I can do this anymore. I feel like my throat is dying... If this continues anymore I might die!' The thought entered his mind, causing his blood soaked body to shake violently.
[Ding! Ding! Ding!]
[Congratulations! You have unlocked the Talent System!]
Despite the fact that his throat was parched he still couldn't help but chuckle as he heard it.
'Talent, ironic how I would be given a system that deals with talent when I don't have any.' A smile formed on his tiny lips.
[Restoring host's body... Ding! Congratulations, host is now passively reinforced with nature energy.]
[Restoring host's body... Ding! Failure, host's affinity for magic fell.]
[Ding! Host's body now repels mana in his surrounding!]
[Ding! Host has no talent!]
[Ding! Host has no potential!]
[Ding! Host is lacking!]
The system spammed him several messages indicating how useless he was.
However he only smiled once he saw that the system repaired his body, but instead of using mana it switched to nature energy.
In the novel, nature energy could only be used by supernatural beings that aided people who worshiped them.
For example, the pope could use nature energy.
The protagonist fought the pope because their mindset didn't agree; the pope was going to give a sacrifice to the deities so that the gods would grace them, however, the protagonist didn't like the fact that someone was going to die.
That led to the death fight and in the end, the pope lost and in his final moments saw the truth in what the protagonist wanted and died.
Though, the pope died because his final attack missed and the MC retaliated.
And the pope had not chosen his successor leaving only the deities to guide humans. If he was no the protagonist he would have been beheaded from all sides.
Then there was also the fact that the protagonist ended a life to save a life.
'Such a beta protagonist in a unique world.'
'If I was him I would only go by the principle of "the only life that matters is mine"'
The system's notification snapped him out of his daze.[
[Host has awakened the unique ability of the talent system. Host is now able to copy the talent of those he makes contact with.]
'Ehhhhh?'
'Make that make sense system? Please?' He begged in his heart.
How would he be able to beat someone when he was on the useless side of the genetic equation.
[Host is able to steal the talents of people he has made contact with. In simpler words, profit from the hard work of others.]
[Ding! Error! Host is unable to use magic, the ability is now limited to the physical aspects.]
The notification made his heart bleed, in the novel there weren't many strong people who were physical.
But he still expected it, the world had cursed him so even a system wouldn't be able to save him.
His feelings were hurt and his emotions faltering.
But in his mind, he had a sinister smirk.
He was going to make history!
