Capítulo 1: First Chapter of a New Foreshadow
I am dead.
It was my first thought upon opening my eyes. Though there was regret, I mostly felt relief. Now I didn't have to go through that life that felt meaningless, putting on airs, forcing myself with delusions.
I hoped I would have peaceful and happy life in the next. This wish is small, is it not? And of course, I could not have such a thing.
"From now on, you are system 006. The contract shall only last for 20 worlds."
The voice of a man.
I look up to the source with a pair of indifferent eyes. The man's silhouette was visible, but I could not see anything else. Countless questions occured due to habit, but I forced it all down. I would act like this was when I was alive. Nothing has changed.
"I refuse this contract. Find someone else."
"You don't have a choice." The voice held no fluctuations in its voice.
"What is the consequences of refusing?" I opened my mouth again right after.
"Soul extermination."
The two words were self-explanatory. I nodded, and replied,
"Then I refuse the contract."
"You would rather face Soul extermination?" The voice finally had a hint of surprise.
If I had to guess, I suppose the mysterious man posed the same punishment to countless others and most gave in.
"Yes." Even if my soul was erased, it didn't matter to me.
A round of silence descended, so I could only have my own thoughts to occupy me.
"If you agree, at the end of the contract, you can have whatever you want."
"Even the power to overthrow you and your leader?" I probed.
"Of course, anything else but that. I don't have authorization for that."
"Then I refuse." I said this once again.
There was another time period of silence.
"Young lady, please cooperate with us."
It was a different voice this time. I guess the other mysterious man asked for help. Then I will ask more questions.
"Why are you so fixated on me?"
"Young lady, I'll ask one more time. Please cooperate with us."
It seemed no matter what I would say next, they would not react. If they go so far for this, either there is something special about me or they can't change targets. At the same time, it seems this contract (likely) has to be willingly done.
"Exterminate my soul." I said so out of the blue.
"I was hoping for mutual cooperation. I am sorry young lady, but it seems there is no other way."
Before I could process what was happening, the feeling of both something being shoved into me and me being shoved into something occurred. The feeling brought extreme discomfort.
It seems they are capable of brute force. I wanted to provide a threat back at them to gain a foothold but since I held no power, any threat would prove useless.
"Alright then, tell me the details for this contract." My mindset made a quick change. If I couldn't do anything, I could still know something.
Receiving the reply in the form of information, my mind collapsed on me from the overload. In other words, I lost consciousness.
Maybe I would look back on this day in the future, this turning point of my life and feel thankful. Or regret.
Regardless, after I was sent away, there were three men left behind. The second one that had taken over the conversation at the end spoke with doubt,
"Sir, are you sure she is the one?"
"Do you doubt my prophecy?" The third answered the first with a question. His voice was gentle like the spring breeze that soothed peoples' hearts.
"N-never in three thousand worlds...I don't doubt your prophecy, but the girl doesn't seem-"
His voice cut off abruptly and you could see him visibly quivering.
"She shall find our master." The statement was firm.
"Yes!" The voice was eager to mend the last blunder and at the same time, did hold honest excitement.
"Good. We will wait."
