Capítulo 2: Rosa

"Come to my office after class."

Professor Li leaned in close to Satoru's desk during the assignment period, her voice low and discreet.

It was a gesture of respect, giving Satoru a chance to address the issue privately without causing him too much embarrassment.

Satoru nodded, acknowledging the request with a slight bow of his head.

...

To ensure a proper balance of work and rest, DxD University allocated a longer break between classes.

During this time, Janne had noticed Satoru's drowsiness and observed Professor Li's concerned expression.

She was preparing to approach Satoru when a fragrant breeze passed by her—someone had moved faster than she could.

"Satoru, you haven't submitted your homework from this morning."

The voice was melodious and clear, like the sweet chirping of birds. It was Rosa, the class representative.

"Oh? Sorry about that, Rosa," Satoru said, scratching his head as he fished a notebook out of his bag.

Rosa was vibrant and cheerful, with a youthful, round face that radiated innocence.

Her smile was captivating, a perfect blend of charm and grace that could brighten anyone's day.

"It's okay. I saw you sleeping this morning and didn't want to disturb you," Rosa replied with a light-hearted smile.

"Didn't get much sleep last night?" she asked, her eyes filled with concern.

"Yeah, had some trouble with insomnia. Sorry for the trouble," Satoru said, noting that Rosa was already carrying a stack of notebooks that nearly reached her chin.

He felt a pang of guilt for causing her delay.

"Rosa, let me take half of these. I need to head to the office too," Satoru offered.

To his surprise, Rosa didn't refuse his help. Instead, she accepted his offer with a grateful nod.

"Thank you," she said.

Lewis, who had been idly standing nearby, seized the opportunity to offer his assistance. "Need any help?"

Satoru was about to decline, thinking that two people were already sufficient and didn't want to overburden anyone. However, before he could respond, Rosa spoke up.

She turned to Lewis, narrowing her eyes slightly and smiling with a crescent-like curve that was both enchanting and slightly intimidating.

"No need, Satoru's help is enough."

"Oh, alright then," Lewis replied, nodding. He couldn't shake off the subtle chill he had felt from Rosa's gaze, a shiver that ran down his spine despite her pleasant demeanor.

Satoru glanced at Lewis, who seemed to be deep in thought.

Was that just an illusion? Maybe I needs to pay more attention to my own health and learn to moderate myself.

"Lewis, I'll take care of it. You should use this break to rest. You look exhausted, with those dark circles under your eyes. You must have had a tough night..."

Satoru's voice was laced with concern, but before he could continue, Lewis waved him off with an impatient gesture.

"Go on, just leave already!" Lewis's tone was brusque, his face flushed with annoyance as he cut Satoru off.

The classroom was a mix of hushed murmurs and shuffling as Satoru and Rosa made their way out.

Their footsteps echoed softly in the hallway, a contrast to the lively chatter that filled the space.

Rosa carried the heavy stack of notebooks with practiced ease, while Satoru matched her stride, his mind still slightly foggy from his interrupted nap.

As they disappeared around the corner, Janne remained seated at her desk.

The room's ambient light cast a soft glow on her features, highlighting the rigidity of her posture.

Her fingers fidgeted with the edge of her notebook, the faint rustling sound a testament to her agitation.

Only when Satoru's form was no longer visible did she let out a small, barely audible sigh, her voice a sharp whisper.

"Disgusting."

Her gaze was fixed downward, her lips curling slightly in disdain.

It wasn't entirely clear if her words were aimed at Satoru or perhaps someone else in the room.

The sentiment lingered, hanging heavy in the air as the classroom slowly returned to its usual buzz of activity.

As Satoru walked behind Rosa, he couldn't help but notice the attention they were attracting.

It was clear that all eyes were on Rosa, not him. He felt like an inconspicuous shadow, a mere accessory in her wake.

Rosa, with her bright and vibrant personality, commanded attention effortlessly.

Satoru, trailing behind her, felt somewhat like a secondary figure—neither a high-status attendant nor an outright subordinate, but something in between.

It was an odd sensation, like being a peripheral character in someone else's spotlight.

He glanced around and saw the curious glances and whispers of his classmates.

Their focus was entirely on Rosa, not him. In his mind, he couldn't quite place his role.

He wasn't exactly a dignified escort, but he wasn't a mere lackey either.

Perhaps he was something akin to a curious oddity in the midst of Rosa's commanding presence.

In his eyes, both Rosa and Janne fell into the category of beautiful women, but he felt no particular attraction.

Satoru had always been indifferent to romantic matters.

Having remained single for over a decade, he had managed to keep his focus on other aspects of his life.

Love and relationships were foreign concepts to him, and he had no current intention of pursuing them.

His lack of interest wasn't due to any particular aversion but simply a deep-seated disinterest.

He had never been swayed by the allure of romance, and his feelings—or lack thereof—remained unchanged.

In his world, romantic entanglements seemed irrelevant, and he continued to navigate life without letting such matters cloud his judgment.

"Satoru, is that stack of assignments heavy?" Rosa asked, her voice gentle but filled with concern. She stopped walking and turned to face him, her eyes searching for signs of struggle.

Satoru looked at the pile of papers he was carrying. "Not really, why?" he responded, his brow furrowed in curiosity.

Rosa's gaze softened as she observed his slow pace. "Then why are you walking so slowly? I thought you might have fallen behind." Her concern was evident, her tone a blend of curiosity and care.

"Sorry, I was a bit lost in thought," Satoru said, his voice tinged with a hint of embarrassment as he glanced away.

Rosa smiled reassuringly. "No need to apologize. Just make sure you get some good rest this afternoon," she said, her voice filled with genuine concern.

Her hand gently brushed a strand of hair behind her ear as she spoke, her eyes reflecting her sincere wish for his well-being.

"Okay, Rosa," Satoru replied, his gratitude palpable. He appreciated her thoughtfulness and the way she balanced her own responsibilities with caring for her classmates.

He felt a warmth in his chest, touched by her kindness.

As they continued their walk, the conversation flowed easily, their voices mingling with the ambient sounds of the bustling campus.

The soft clatter of footsteps and the distant murmur of students created a backdrop to their lively discussion.

The hallway seemed to stretch on endlessly, but their engaging dialogue made the time pass swiftly.

They arrived at the office door, and Rosa approached it with a practiced grace.

She knocked softly, the sound echoing lightly in the corridor, and then turned the handle with a firm yet gentle touch.

"Come in." The voice from inside was welcoming, and Rosa pushed the door open.

The hinges creaked softly, and the office's interior came into view—neat, organized, and filled with the faint scent of polished wood and ink.

Rosa and Satoru entered, greeted Professor Li with polite nods, and placed their assignments on the designated desk.

The soft rustle of paper as they arranged the work was the only sound in the room for a moment.

"Rosa, Professor Li needs to speak with me about something. You can go back now." Satoru's tone was straightforward yet warm, as she prepared to leave.

"Alright, I'll head back myself then," Rosa responded, her voice carrying a note of reassurance. She gave a final nod to Satoru before turning towards the door.

As Rosa exited, the office door clicked shut behind her. She paused in the hallway, her posture relaxed but thoughtful.

With a hand placed gently over her chest, she felt the steady rhythm of her heartbeat, her breathing calm and even.

She hummed a soft, cheerful tune, her lips curving into a small, contented smile.

Her footsteps were light and rhythmic as she walked down the corridor, each step seemingly buoyant with a sense of ease and satisfaction.

The hallway's ambient noise seemed to fade as she left, her mood clearly uplifted and her stride purposeful.
