Vishnu was depressed; He had been duped by Michael. Vishnu knew that the only chance he had at getting new legs was to get prosthetics from America; However, instead of going for experimental treatment in America; Michael said that Vishnu was going to be treated here.
" Just think about it, Do I really gain anything from lying to you?" Michael reasoned. He could not blame Vishnu, After all, if a stranger came to him and said that he could do something impossible; Michael would probably just call the cops. Vishnu was actually responding better than Michael expected. Perhaps, it is because Vishnu has been in many battlefields and faced situations that were much more dangerous.
Vishnu thought about it for a couple of minutes and realized that Michael was correct. If Michael was lying then that will soon be revealed; then all the effort Michael put into recruiting Vishnu will be wasted. Vishnu decided to comply with Michael's directions for now.
"Lay on the bed and try to relax." Michael instructed. Fortunately, Vishnu followed his directions.
Michael breathed out; He had already gone through the MRI scans, X-rays, and other reports on Vishnu's file and verified that the nerves in the spine suffered the most damage. All he would need to do was to mend those nerves. Michael hoped that the injury was light enough so that he won't use up all his stamina.
" Heal" He commanded. It was weird using an active skill. Nearly all his other skills were passive so that he never had to actively command them.
A white light passed through Michael's hands and covered Vishnu's body. It surrounded his hips and glowed for a few minutes.
Vishnu felt a warm current passing through his body and settling near his hips. It felt soothing; he could tell that his body embraced the external force and used it to heal his legs. After several minutes he felt the warm current go way. Vishnu tried to sit up and actually succeeded! He wiggled his toes for the first time in two years. Without waiting any longer, Vishnu slammed his feet on the ground and stood up. He abruptly started to stumble, fortunately, Michael helped him up.
" Wow, take it slow Vishnu; Let your body adapt to itself." Michael warned Vishnu as he placed him back on the bed.
" You did it! You actually healed my legs." Vishnu was having a hard time accepting this new reality. He had already accepted the truth that he would never walk again. But now he could feel the ground again with his own feet. As he looked at the man that was responsible for this miracle, he could only feel gratefulness from the bottom of his heart.
Vishnu wiped away the tears and turned to Michael. "Thank you"
" My pleasure" Michael replied. This was the first time someone had shown heartfelt appreciation for something Michael did. He could feel the sincerity in Vishnu's voice. " This isn't such a bad feeling." Michael thought to himself. If his plans to build an empire fails, then he will just go around healing people.
" I was wrong before. You aren't a madman." Vishnu apologized. Then he remembered what he said earlier about Michael being either a madman or a god. If Michel wasn't a madman, then that meant that he was a god!
" Are you really a god?" Vishnu asked nervously.
Michael knew this question was coming; He knew that his followers would question the source of his power. Michael had no intentions to take credit for his skills; after all, he himself had no idea where the system came from. His best guess is that some sort of god created it; therefore it would be foolish to take credit for God's creation. The best answer Michael could give was that he was someone with God's blessings.
"Nope, I am just someone blessed by god I guess." Michael admitted.
Vishnu still looked at Michael with eyes full of adoration. India was the birthplace of four major religions so, like all Indians, Vishnu was very spiritual. He started to think that Michael was a messenger from God.
Vishnu steeled his heart and decided to follow Michael." I know you don't want me to be just a soldier in your company. You must be looking for somebody to be your right-hand man and serve you for life. I would..."
" We can talk about all that way down the road." Michael cut Vishnu off before he could finish. He did not want to jump ahead. It was best to wait for loyalty to be developed over time.
" Right now, we need to get you a makeover." Michael ordered.
Michael looked at Vishnu and realized that his appearance made him look like a beggar. So he spent the rest of the day dragging Vishnu around to store after store. By evening, Vishnu looked completely different with a new haircut, a shave, and clothes.
Michael let Vishnu know that they would start traveling by the end of the week. He needed to give Vishnu enough time to recover completely and also say goodbye to all the friends and family he had in this city. After all, Vishnu might not come to Pune ever again. However, Michael made sure that Vishnu still kept the wheelchair; he wanted to limit the number of people that knew about his powers as much as possible. Even if he was using a fabricated identity; there was no need to take such risks.
The week went by quickly, Michael spent most of it trading and meditating. He also started to create a training program for his followers. All of his candidates were retired from the military for medical reasons. Therefore, they would probably be out of shape. Michael intended to have them go through a two month training period to get them in shape and also to get them to bond with each other.
The basic training that the military offered focused on getting all the recruits to bond together so they could work as one unit. Michael adapted the training program used by navy seals and created his own custom program. He planned on having an expedition at the end to present a grand challenge to all the recruits. He closed his laptop and met with Vishnu in the lobby.
" Ready to go?" Michael asked.
" Sure, By the way, where are we going next?" Vishnu asked curiously.
" To Alappuzha in Kerala, and then Ooty in Tamil Nadu, then Hyderabad, Varanasi, Lucknow." Michael started listing cities all over India.
" Okay, Okay. Looks like we are touring all of India. It's going to be a long trip." Vishnu complained. However, he was actually happy to take this trip; because he would be walking on his own legs. Vishnu figured that Michael intended to recruit others in India. After all, you cannot build an Army with just one soldier. He looked forward to all the different talents Michael would recruit.
