Suddenly, the office door burst open, and a girl stumbled inside, breathless and wide-eyed. "Chief... Chief... Prosecutor Wang has discovered the experiment!" she gasped, her voice trembling, face drained of color.
The leader shot up from her chair, her expression shifting to one of cold fury. "What?" she snapped, her eyes narrowing as she clenched her fists, voice slicing through the air like a blade.
"Yes, Chief, and they've mobilized a search team. They're on their way here," the girl stammered, fear palpable in her quivering frame.
A chill of anger twisted the leader's face. "No... this can't happen. Not now." She began pacing the room, her mind racing with thoughts of their impending doom. Then, her lips curled into a chilling smile. "Before Wang arrives, we'll erase every trace. Tell everyone to clear the lab. It must be empty before they get here."
"But, Chief, what are you going to do?" the girl asked, her voice barely above a whisper, dread lacing her words.
The leader's smile morphed into something sinister, her eyes gleaming with cold determination. "I'm going to obliterate all evidence. This lab, hidden deep within the jungle, will vanish without a trace. Once the flames have done their work, there will be nothing left—no lab, no evidence." Her laugh echoed, devoid of warmth, reverberating against the sterile walls.
Suddenly, alarms blared through the corridors, their shrill wails echoing off the walls, sending everyone into a frenzy, hearts racing and adrenaline surging. Red lights flashed ominously, casting eerie shadows as personnel rushed toward the main entrance. Amidst the chaos, a nurse sprinted toward the doctor, her face ashen and slick with sweat. "Doctor, the chief has ordered us to clear the lab. We need to safely remove the subject, and you only have one hour."
The doctor glanced down at the tiny life in the incubator, her hands trembling as she filled a syringe with a lethal dose. "What choice do we have?"Every instinct screamed at her to stop, to run away with the child. "We can't do this," her assistant implored, her voice thick with emotion. The woman, around 40, had seen too much to remain unaffected. "This baby... she's innocent. We can't be a part of this."
The doctor swallowed hard, a lump forming in her throat. "I know... but what choice do we have?" Her voice cracked under the weight of the decision, a painful acceptance of their grim reality. "What if they find out? What if I'm too late?"....
Outside, the leader stood with lab members near the entrance, the dense jungle casting long shadows. Suddenly, the doctor stumbled into view, blood streaming down her face, her lab coat soaked in crimson. Gasps of shock rippled through the group.
"What happened? Who did this?" The leader's eyes blazed with fury as she rushed forward, grabbing the doctor by the shoulders, shaking her with urgency. "Where is my subject?"
"Two people... they attacked me... took the subject..." The doctor's voice faded as she crumpled to the ground, consciousness slipping away.
The leader's face twisted with rage. "Who were they? Answer me!" She shook the unconscious doctor, frustration boiling over, her heart racing with panic. "I can't lose everything now!"
In a fit of anger, she hurled her phone against the floor, shattering it into pieces. "No!"
Meanwhile, from a hidden path behind the lab, the assistant ran, clutching the baby tightly to her chest. The doctor's final words echoed in her mind: "Take this child far from here. I'll handle the rest."
"W-what? Me? Why me?" the assistant had stammered, the weight of the responsibility crashing down on her.
"Yes, you," the doctor insisted, urgency lacing her voice. "If I take her, the chief will find out. But you—this is your chance. The prosecutor won't arrive for another two hours, and they don't know the way through the jungle. You can make it."
"But what if they catch me?" the assistant had whispered, fear creeping into her tone.
"They won't. This was my plan all along, but the chief found out too soon. Now go—before it's too late." The doctor's eyes shimmered with unshed tears, her heart heavy with guilt as she led the assistant to a concealed route that wove through the dense jungle, eventually connecting to the highway. "This path will lead you out. Now go."
As the assistant disappeared into the verdant shadows, cradling the child close, the doctor watched her go, her heart aching with regret. In her mind, she whispered, "Cheng Li, if you can... please forgive me…"

Back at the lab, the leader watched as flames began to engulf the building, the fire roaring like a beast unleashed. She clenched her fists, fury and determination etched across her face. "Burn it all," she hissed, her voice low and fierce. "Leave nothing behind."
The fire crackled and roared, a living entity devouring everything in its path. The leader stood there, her face illuminated by the flickering flames, eyes burning with a mixture of rage and determination. "I've lost my subject, but I won't let anyone uncover the truth. The game isn't over, and I will do whatever it takes to win."
