Capítulo 10: First Meeting With Nick Fury and Giving Him a Surprise
The next day, the incident made the news headlines. Stane's body was never found, and it was assumed that he escaped.
But there were also assumptions that he might have died to one of the many explosions that happened there.
Meanwhile, Stark was returning home from a nice party he threw and as he entered his house and got to the living room.
There, a man in black coat stood beside the glass window looking outside when Stark walked in.
Tony Stark didn't seem surprised walked to the refrigerator and took out a drink, took a sip and went to sit at the couch directly opposite the man.
As for said man, he was surprised that Stak didn't outright question him when he saw him, but he figures that Stark can be unpredictable.
Upon thinking of this, he decided to break the silence.
"For the 'first time' in a long time. America now has a superhero. Some man in an advanced tech suit going around and blasting people up."
Nick Fury turned and looked at Tony Stark with a calm gaze, ignoring the fact that the man didn't seem surprised.
"As if he was anxious that he won't be known he had to leave his name behind after every battle. Ultron."
"Gotta admit the name does sound cool, but for people like us, finding the real identity of said vigilante or superhero depending on people's specific opinion was all that hard, Tony Stark."
"Um, who are you again?"
"Nick Fury, Director of S.H.I.E.L.D."
"S.H.I.E.L.D huh? I've heard of you." Stark said nonchalantly.
"Of course you have. But Mr. Stark, I am sure you do not think that we are the only ones that have figured out your identity?"
Tony nodded but didn't say anything. He knew about this as an example, the Ten Rings and the Mandarin knew his identity because of their encounters.
Especially the ten rings that kidnapped him. He also wouldn't be surprised if such information has been sold to other organisations.
But he was sure S.H.I.E.L.D knows and with what he had gathered about the organisation, then that also means that H.Y.D.R.A knows his real identity as well.
This has messed up his plans of keeping his identity a secret, especially counting the fact that the Mandarin had recently threatened to reveal his identity to the world and let his recently make enemies to find him.
Now that he had attacked one of their bases and dealt with Obadiah Stane along the way, he was half sure they will actually carry out their threats.
Even he had made suits that even J.A.R.V.I.S could pilot, and could use that to appear in public while 'Ultron' flew around, the technology might still be traced back to him.
At that time all some groups have to do was to directly attack Tony Stark and the truth would be revealed.
But despite all these, Tony was still very composed.
Fury merely raised an eyebrow at him, feeling that their evaluation of him was spot on.
"I understand what you are saying Mr. Man with the eye patch. Sorry, don't look at me like that, I have a bad memory so I forgot your name."
"Heh, funny. You are an interesting man. You don't seem worried at all, and although I am curious I have another goal for coming here."
"Oh, you want to pitch something? Go ahead, am all ears. But I don't promise to agree."
Fury ignored the remark and simply said.
"My Tony Stark, now known as Ultron. You don't think the world is as big as you have seen do you? There are many other powers at play and you just dive into the sea without knowing the real predators behind the scenes." Fury walked to a chair in front of Tony and sat down comfortably
"But I can help you with that. I would like to tell you about an old idea. Something called the Avengers Initiative."
Tony Stark raised an eyebrow, "Sounds iconic, but I have a proposal for you too. One that I'm sure you'd like to hear and you might even abandon your current proposal to deal with it."
As Tony spoke he poured a glass of wine and offered Fury who was in front of him.
Fury accepted and listened as he saw Tony's gaze became much more serious
"And what might that be?" Fury was a little curious, even though he mostly felt that Stark might be messing with him.
Tony smiled and simply passed a pair of glasses to him.
"What is this?"
"Just wear and you'll see. I can't say what I want to tell you out loud. But you will understand after putting on these glasses."
"Are you messing with me?"
"No of course not," Tony shook his head and then seemed to think of something and then said.
"My father was a member of S.H.I.E.L.D after all. I am not messing with you."
This seems to get Fury's attention and surprise as he didn't know that Tony knew about it.
Fury then wore the glasses which then displayed an information that made him slightly widen his eye.
At the end he was staring at the four bold words displayed after a set of videos without audio had played.
[S.H.I.E.L.D HAS BEEN COMPROMISED.]
He quietly took off the glasses and crushed it in his palm and then looked at the calm Tony with a different gaze than before.
"How the hell do you know all this?"
"Well, the thing is, I know a guy..."
"What?"
"Nah, I'm just kidding. I just have some interesting technology, nothing worthy of notice."
"I see. So then, what is your proposal. Are you telling me you have a way?"
"Of course. But first I'd like to say this. Mr Nick Fury, you and I could be just allies, each cooperating as much as we benefit from that cooperation. Or we could be Partners which will have far more commitment and benefits than the other."
"So before we proceed, think long and hard on how you want our interaction to be and send me your response," Tony stood up and walked away leaving one last comment.
"Your response will determine mine. You should know your way out. I need to go to sleep. But for the pretty lady at the corner, you don't have to leave, my bedroom is upstairs, we could have a chat about life if you ever desire."
Tony left a seriously thoughtful Fury speechless, but for a good reason.
Black Widow who was watching from her standpoint thought that Tony Stark was to be taken very seriously for the first time.
Not because of th last comment but because of the fact that he made Nick fridgging Fury speechless.
'Tony Stark huh? Interesting...'
