The constant barrage of artillery shock the ground, as my brothers, sisters and I waited in the trench with our guns resting on the top.
There were hundreds of my brethren lined up long the trench, waiting for the command. the anticipation of the whistle is what gets my blood pumping.
I looked over the trench to see big eruptions of dirt and flashes of explosions, with the occasional red mists also getting blown into the air.
A high pitch whistle was deafened by the artillery, but it was heard and me along with my brethren jumped out of the trench and charged towards the enemy trench.
The lens' on my gas mask got covered with dirt, to the point I could only see the outline of the trench. But that wouldn't stop me charging.
Red lasers flash across my vision as I charged the enemy. The artillery hadn't stopped as we charged, they were ear-shattering, but we still charged.
Once I had gotten close to the trench I saw the glowing green eyes of our enemy. I raised my gun and shot him, only hitting him in the shoulder, he got knocked into the trench.
I stood upon the top of the trench and aimed my gun at the fallen enemy, he clutched his shoulder with one had and raised the other in an attempt of mercy. I blew his head off with no hesitation and hopped into the trench.
Looking to my left and right I only saw 4 of my brethren alive and standing. I moved down the trench until I reached another path leading deeper into the trench. I waited on one side while one of my brothers was on the other.
reaching behind him, my brother threw a photon flashbang. After a few seconds, a blinding light flashed the trench line, moving into the trench line we fired at 4 of the enemy. Quickly putting them down.
The artillery had stopped firing upon the trench, leaving our footsteps and fighting in the distance the only sound.
We walked through the trench with our guns raised. There were two trench slits. With no word spoken I continued walking to the closest slit and my brother walked to the second slit.
I broke the little window on the door and threw a frag grenade through it. Tick... Boom. Once the grenade exploded, I kicked down the door, launching it off its hinges. Scanning the room with my gun I found nothing but a some corpses and a black burn mark.
I determined that there wasn't any threat, and left the room. I walked back into the trench when I was shot at.
I rolled behind cover before seeing where the attack came from.
I was pinned in position, the constant fire prevented me from moving, but I head the sound of rapid footsteps and a chainsaw getting closer.
I jumped out of cover and charged towards the enemy. I saw an enemy charging at blistering speeds, wielding an axe with serrated blades spinning around the blade of the axe.
Once I got close, he swung the axe trying to take my head off. I ducked out of the strike and stuck him in the neck with my bayonet. He swung his axe again in an attempt to get me off.
I retracted my strike and he stumbled back and I charged again. He swung his axe but was to slow. Using my momentum I continued charging towards the other enemy. He pelted his buddy with rounds of ammunition trying to hit me.
Only a few bullets made their way through the body but none hit me. I pulled some pins on some frag grenades attached to the corpse. I threw the corpse onto the enemy and ran away down another trench line.
After a few seconds a loud boom shook the ground and I didn't look back.
***
We charged from another trench to the next, but halfway through some portals opened. Out came a few red chaos marines and demons belonging to the chaos god Khorne.
This was the first time I had seen a marine or demons before, but that didn't stop my charge, rather that made he run faster.
It seemed like all my brothers and sisters felt the same, some of us tried to outrun the other. In front of me I saw the demons and space marines cut through our forces like paper. They were bigger, stronger, smarter, faster and more powerful, but we had something they didn't. Numbers with unfaltering morale.
A space marine cut through the line of my brethren in front of me, leaving an opportunity of attack.
I stabbed in the gap under his chest plate, he responded with a backfist that would pulverise me. I ducked just in time and his fist slammed into a couple of running Kriegsman, sending their corpses flying.
I stabbed under his plate again. He swung his chainsword down above my head, but I rolled out of the way and shot him in the face, which did nothing but piss him off. Thankfully my brothers and sisters used this opportunity to attack in his armour gaps while I distracted him.
He redirected his attention to the surrounding Kriegsman, eviscerating every one he attacked. I took the opportunity to jump on the top of Marine. Stabbing the bayonet in the neck gap, a sputter of blood squirted out of the gap.
The space marine tried to grab me, but my brethren stabbed and shot him continuously. I on the other hand dug a hole in his exposed armour gap and stuffed a grenade into it. The marine shook again and this time I let it throw me away.
I left my gun in the space marine. An explosion went off and I already knew I lost my gun. I drew my trusty shovel and continued to charge the enemy.
As I ran, a red space marine adorned with gold and horns wouldn't let anything pass him. He wielded axes bigger than any man I had seen, and he swung them around like twigs.
While running I saw an orange and red portal behind him. I knew what I was going to do.
I charged the marine after he did a spin with his axes, slicing my brothers and sisters with ease. He left his side opened and I tackled him. Felt like hitting a boulder with my shoulder, he barely moved, he just stumbled a hit.
He went to elbow me, but the little stumble was enough for my brethren to also tackle him. It took a lot of power, and weight. I could feel my back and legs starting to break, but it was okay, as this was my payment for my ancestors sins against the imperium.
I started to push and so did my brothers and sisters. The space marine made a desperate attempt to get out and cut us down. He swung around frantically, cutting us down, but more of my brethren would jump on him.
We did not stop. We did not falter. We kept moving forward. I pulled the pins on my grenades and with one final push we got him through the portal. No fear, no hesitation, and no mercy.
"FOR THE EMPEROR!!!"
BOOM!
