Capítulo 6: Ch. 6 Re-evaluation

[F-rank Item]

-Dormant Abilities awakening effect.

-Past Life's Awakening effect.

-Additional Effects unknown.

"Dormant abilities? Also, Past Life's Awakening? How is 'Roel' considered an F tier item with two enchantments?!.....Woah calm down buddy I didn't call you F tier, this dumb machine did....C'mon Roel this thing is expensive, it's just a dumb machine, don't stoop so low as to let an inanimate object affect you.....I see, it's extremely rare that a person can still connect to their past life, and it's even rarer to find a decent one that you'd accept, that must be why this machine labeled you F rank." Think back on it, John constantly had dreams about his past life, he just didn't know it yet.

He packed up the Orc chieftains crystal and Javelin and ran toward the dungeon exit.

The Hunters watching the entrance closely, as John came running out of the dungeon full Sprint, only for the Red and chaotic gate to dim and grey.

"Wait, he came out already?"

"I told you he would give up. He surprised us a bit yesterday but this is the Legend's limit. Time to pay up that $10,000"

"Hold on! Look at the gate! It's turned grey, meaning that the monsters are in the respawn phase! You just said he had to give up and leave, what if he cleared it?"

"There's no way he cleared it that fast....."

They gossiped in whispers but John didn't concern himself with them. He found the Dungeon Bureau worker and showed him his measuring tool.

"T-that's impossible. No way!" The Dungeon Bureau worker grabbed the measuring tool out of John's hand and took a closer look.

'Just by his reaction, I can tell that I've placed in the top ten of D-rank dungeon clear times,' he thought and held back his prideful smile.

"So, what's my time?"

"P-Please wait a moment Mr. Jackson. let me check one more time."

That reaction wasn't normal. The Hunters caught on and whispered to each other, paying close attention to John. Taking out their phones, the hunter saw what time it was and were shocked themselves.

The worker checked the results again and again as his eyes twitched.

"Your time is two hours and five minutes. That beats the American 2nd place record and 4th place international record for D ranks!" he announced.

Although he looked astonished, he had conveyed the results quite loudly so the gathered group of Hunters could also hear him.

"2nd place in America and 4th place internationally!? How could a healer clear a dungeon so quickly! Did he cheat?

"The measuring tool doesn't lie man, it was created by the greatest minds from all over the world coming together and is constantly being improved."

"Damn!"

The Hunters looked at John differently and they started getting on social media, wanting to be the first person to break the news about it.

John was happy as this was gonna spread to Hunter.com, showing the world that he wasn't the pathetic hunter that they once knew, but he still felt a little dejected.

"Did you just say 4th ranked internationally?" John asked, hiding his surprise. John truly gave it a good attempt at breaking every record, or course he wasted a few minutes here and there, but he'd never though that other D rankers could keep up with him, and yet three ithers did.

"You've really set a new record. You're the first to break the record as a Healer. Hunter, you're truly amazing," the worker complimented.

The worker hadn't trusted the results so easily, so he had checked the measuring tool a few times. However, he hadn't found anything strange.

"If you don't mind, could you please wait for a moment while I relay this to the Dungeon Bureau?" the worker asked politely. The worker's attitude had softed and forgave John's earlier outburst.

"You have to report it to the Dungeon Bureau?" John asked.

"Yes. Any Hunter who breaks the record will be rewarded by the Dungeon Bureau."

"A reward?"

"That's correct. The Dungeon Bureau is well known for giveing out rewards to skilled hunters, this will continue to push hunters to strive for their limits and become more skilled and experienced." With that, the worker moved a short distance away and made a call.

A few moments later, he returned to John. "Let us go to the Dungeon Bureau. Allow me to escort you to the car." He said walking over to luxurious SUV.

John had no reason to reject their offer since he needed to visit the Dungeon Bureau anyway to sell his items and magic stones.

"Hey man pop the trunk of it" The employee complied as he opened the trunk of the very expensive sedan.

"Ah you want to place your crystal in h-" turning around, the work saw John carrying his dirty bicycle and before he could stop him, John had already tossed it into the trunk.

"Thanks man. These SUV's sure are spacious huh." Patting the working on the shoulder, John left him dumbfounded and got into the passangers seat

Entering the car, John felt the soft leather and AC blasting into his face.

'I should get a fancy car with all of my money....Your right! A horse would be pretty badass to ride on! Shit! I just remembered, our horse are much slowing than in my past life, so there's no point...There are tamable monsters that I could ride around on, but the majority of them look dumb and most of them are slower than a motorcycle....Ah right, a Motorcycle is a two whe....' John didn't speak to to the employee the entire ride back to the HQ, as him and Roel had discussions back and forth.

They arrived quickly to the bureau and John followed the Dungeon Bureau worker inside and was welcomed by the Deputy Director.

All the employees, starting from the Deputy Director position, are management executives. John had spent two years as a Hunter, and it was the first time meeting someone who was akin to his boss.

"It's a pleasure Mr. Jackson, I'm the Dungeon Bureau's Deputy Director, Kyle Williams" Mr. William smiled brightly and John greeted him in kind.

Sitting down, he had an employee bring them whatever they wanted to drink before they started talking.

"I'll explain the rewards for beating two records." Willaim said.

While drinking his Diet Dr.Pepper, John found out that breaking the American record rewarded him a ticket for possessory rights priority over a newly born dungeon. This would mean the owner of a ticket would be the sole owner of a dungeon, guilds sought these tickets out like crazy.

Though the market value constat fluctuate, it was easily worth $2,500,000 if he sold the the ticket out right. The quick influx of money was tempting, but it would be difficult to acquire another one of them, so John decided to keep it.

"As for your International Record, what is it that you'd like?" William had an emotionless face, but John could see through the facade and saw jealousy.

"What do you mean?" When John heard this, he felt his heart skip a beat as his mind was going wild, but he contained himself until confirmation.

"As you've broken one of the the international D ranked records, the reward for it can be any item within reason." John saw Williams face twitching as he tried his hardest to seem uninterested.

Normally the international records were broken by a member of a powerful guild who had the entire backing of the guilds resources, giving the reward request to their guild master in exchange to keep the expensive and powerful gear used to break the record.

'Holy fuck I was right! This is great, what do you think I should get?....Your right!.'

"I want a set of the strongest whetstones you can get, some that could sharpen even the toughest of material."

"Whetstones? The strongest whetstones available on the market are used by A+ rank hunters and are made of Basilisk scale. If you want it, I'll send in the order to the International Dungeon Bureau but it'll take a very long time to get here."

"That's perfect, thank you William. If this is all, I'll be going then," John said, not wanting to freak out in public as that would be unsightly.

"Please wait a moment, Hunter. I still have one more matter to discuss." Williams said hurriedly

"I'm listening" John just wanted to get out of there and celebrate.

"I requested a reexamination of your rank from the Bureau." William said while smiling while Johns mood immediately plummeted.

"A reexamination of my rank?" John questioned.

In general, unless it was time for their annual re-evaluation, a Hunter had to request a re-evaluation of his/her rank, not the Bureau.

"It's standard procedure that after every new record, the record breaker gets a reexamination because more often then not they have already surpassed their own rank. Dont worry! We don't strip the record breakers of their rewards or anything, we just increase their rank."

"I see.... Then I'll over course take the reevaluation." Despite wanting to wait until he got a firm grasp on his new abilities, John didnt mind this too much as he could now enter higher ranked dungeons as solo.

After Ten minutes of waiting and chatting, the examiner finally arrived.

"Hello Mr. Jackson, i'm the Hunter Bureau's Examiner Charles, thank you for waiting."

After breaking the records, every worker that he'd met today had been excessively polite towards him.

John simply smiled.

"No point in wasting anymore of your time, I'll get started immediately." charles said.

Charles took out a big and bulky measuring tool from his large suitcase. It tooked like a giant box with a hand sized hole in the middle with a hand scanner attached to the side.

"I'll check how much physically stronger you've become and also measure your mana. Please stick your hand into the machine" Nodding at the examiner, John stuck his hand into the large metal box.

*Beep Boop*

In no time, the measuring tool responded.

"Is it done?"

"C-Could you please wait a moment?" Charles stammered out.

Charles began typing away in the machine as a look of concern had washed over him.

"That's strange… It shouldn't be possible for the box to malfunction" he whispered underneath his breath.

After a minute of typing, the examiner let out a dejected sigh as he put the box away.

"I'm really sorry, Hunter. Could I please measure you again?"

"It can't be helped." John responded.

"Thank you very much, Hunter. It'll be finished shortly."

Pulling out a little hand-held machine, it was obvious that it was much older than the giant box that he previously used.

Lifting the machine up to moved his measuring tool towards John's body, a dozen lazers began to scan all over his body before it let out a beep boop.

"It's finally showing up properly." Charles said in relief. Carefully putting the measuring tool back into his suitcase, he looked at John.

"Thank you for waiting, Hunter. You have succeeded in ascending from the D-rank to the B-rank! Congratulations!".

He had suspected it, but it was still difficult to accept.

"Congratulations, Hunter!"

"Congratulations on your promotion!"

The workers in the office clapped and congratulated him with exaggerated gestures.

"You've awoken just three years ago, to go through a second awakening in such a short time is incredibly rare! Congratulations once again!"

Giving his thanks as he walked out, John quickly left the Dungeon Burea while Charles had a grumpy look on his face.

"So much for better and more accurate, the old handheld scanner works more reliably than that clunky box! Seriously, how could they issue such a faulty measuring device." Charles said as he began to pack up

The difference between the two devices was that the hand held scanner can only measure the mana in a hunter, while the Box does much more!

The box can also measure the physical strength of a hunters body to categorize class of Hunter, rank new Dungeons from the outside rather than having to send in Hunters to determine the dungeons rank, and it's even being able to measure the likelihood of a dungeon becoming a Red Gate!

A Red Gates is a normal Dungeon gates that seals off the entrance and prevents hunters from leaving, while also making the dungeons increasingly harder. Unlike hidden Dungeons that only has a stronger boss, Red Gates makes everything in the dungeon stronger from the mobs and bosses to even the terrain becoming much harsher to survive in.

This red gate phenomenon puzzle every mana researcher in the entire world, so being able to detect it meant this box was considered the very cutting edge of technology.

Having just been created, the measuring device hadn't even been given an actual name yet and was still in beta testing at the moment, so having a few bugs hear and there wasn't too strange.

This was the reason examiner Charles couldnt have known that the box scanner was working perfectly, and chose to believe what he had seen must've been a bug.

After all, how could it be possible that a human was categorized as a Dungeon Gate!
