I hurriedly walked past all the other cubicles with my head down, ignoring the sounds of shock and terror made by all of my mean coworkers who apparently all agreed that today was the company's first be an A-hole to Alexis day.
Do I really need this job so much to tolerate this?
...it was a thing to consider but with no other places responding to my applications, there was little to no choice for me in that regard.
It was nice to have food, and paying rent for my own place was also better than returning home with my tail between my legs, so if I handed a resignation I would need to restore to the worst option of all...
...ugh...
I feel sick merely thinking of doing something so horrible and soul-sucking...
...working retail...
I shudder at the echoes of memories of a part-time job I did as a high school student and...
Oh.
I somehow already was in front of Rose's office.
Yeah, fighting trauma with trauma!
...
Thinking that retail maybe isn't such a bad alternative to hearing the sickly-looking pale man in his fifties complain about my inexcusable behavior and how I'm bringing the company's image down, I raised my hand and knocked.
No deep breaths were needed, it wasn't like this was some new experience.
"I allow you to come in."
A coarse voice of my direct superior allowed me the entrance to his dreary abode...
...that was in fact a well-lighted room with a great view of the city and not the damp cell in a dungeon that would fit Rose much better, honestly – especially with that sort of greeting.
Lucky bastard, he wasn't someone very high on the company ladder but he seemed to have the backing of one of the executives so he always seemed to receive preferential treatment.
"Good morning..."
I entered and bowed my head with a greeting, kind of expecting that Rose's reaction would be exactly the same as all of the rest.
"Ah, it's only you miss Smith. Much later than I expected you, but I guess I expect too much of you."
But, no, sadly that wasn't the case.
His reaction was basically the same as always.
A disappointed sigh followed by a condescending comment.
"Still it's not entirely bad, since he arrived here only a few minutes earlier."
Rose added with a soft smirk and pressed some sort of a button in the corner of his desk, which released an odd buzzing sound.
…?
Eh...?
What was that supposed to be?
Am I in some quiz show and my answer was incorrect, why did he do that.
I stood there taken aback, waiting for a word of explanation.
"She's ready, you may come in."
But instead, Rose began acting as if I wasn't there anymore and called someone after manually inputting a number.
Then, suddenly, a completely new door that was hidden behind a bookshelf like some secret passage in a movie opened and...
The intern waltzed right in confidently as if he was owning the place.
"Ugh...! Damn it, Rose, why does it stink here so much in here?! Did you roll around with a bunch of wet dogs or something...?"
The intern pinched his nose with a disgusted expression and asked as if Rose was not only not his superior, but actually someone completely beneath him!
Oh boy!
I have never seen Rose scold anyone else besides me so, as bad as it sounds, I was expecting the middle-aged guy to blow up and go all old-school discipline style on this brat's ass!
"I... I have no idea what might have caused that, sir... maybe it's this girl? Who knows what she was doing slacking off all day yesterday while she should be preparing herself to become your servant?"
"...hah...?"
I shook my head and gasped, too shocked after hearing such a ridiculous response, but I was completely ignored.
Maybe the dream I had was prophetic and was warning me about those creeps?!
"Watch your mouth. Already charmed or not, she is someone who will be my servant. You may be Synthia's favorite, but you are getting old, and since she still hasn't turned you, it might just mean that she won't keep you around for much longer. Your privileges might be revoked faster than you expect."
"...!"
The intern scoffed, and his words caused Rose to visibly panic,
"That's not true! Mistress Synthia likes older men! She is just waiting for me to fit her image of a perfect spouse!"
Rose cried out clenching his fists and gritting his teeth from anger, glaring furiously at the mockingly smirking intern.
"Yeah, sure, whatever, old man. I'll be sure to turn this one as soon as I stop enjoying her taste – she's simpleminded but hardworking and easy to tease, someone like her would make a fun bride."
The intern smiled seductively looking my way.
...what...
...the...
….hell...?
Am I hearing things correctly?
This whole talk sounds as if...
...as if this whole company was run by...
...by...
...by...!
Some messed up sex cult?!
Mistress? Servants?!
ENJOYING MY TASTE?!
Who is going to be this brat's bride?!
This is ridiculous!
RIDICULOUS!
Forget about a complaint to HR – I am going to type out my resignation RIGHT NOW!
I decided, too furious to even speak, and just turned around with a full intention to follow my conviction this time.
"Huh...? Hey, where do you think you're going?"
With Rose too angry to even pay attention to me, the intern was the one who notice my decisive step towards the door and had the guts to grab my hand to stop me!
His skin was awfully pale, almost unpleasant to touch and its feel made me...
*KA-SLAP!*
"UGH...!"
SLAP THE CRAP OUT OF THIS ASSHAT'S FACE!
"DON'T TOUCH ME YOU SNOT-NOSED FREAK!"
I shouted pulling my hand away from the grip of the absolutely shock intern.
The sheer confusion on his face which was the proof that he never even imagined that he would face any consequences for his disgusting behavior made me even angrier!
"WHAT IN THE WORLD ARE YOU DOING...?!"
Rose stood up from his chair and gasped at me, just as shocked as the intern, no, maybe even more, and slightly scared too?
"I don't give a damn anymore! Even just applying here was the worst decision of my life! I have enough! I quit!"
I answered, barely holding myself back from spitting in the bastard's shocked face – but even without doing that, just saying those words out loud felt liberating as hell.
"This place is horrible, the other employees are all useless slackers who can only push their work on me and you are not only allowing this all despite my many written complaints but even are now trying to force me into some creepy sex cult thing?! Do you think that this is funny?! You will be lucky if I won't press charges against you!"
I pointed my finger at the flabbergasted Rose and poured all my anger into a lengthy scoff
With that I was reaching for the door, ready to leave when I felt my blouse being grabbed, forcing me to turn back.
...ah... there it is, a manly man was going to hit me back for daring to slap him after he was acting like a pig!
So be it!
My father signed me to boxing gym when I was in middle school, lets see what you got tough-guy intern!
I gritted my teeth and lowered my head, ready to receive a punch, but instead...
"Wh-what the...?! AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH!"
...the intern looked at my neck, right at the silver moon spot and his eyes trembled before he jumped away, screaming in horror as if it was a sign of a horribly infectious disease.
...he actually jumped all the way back to the opposite wall, so... damn... he was more athletic than his looks lead to believe...
"HMPH!"
But let's be honest, with a chance like that, why would I stay there even a second longer – I straightened the blouse that the bastard-intern crumpled and marched out of the door without saying goodbye.
Originally I was going to write and print my resignation right there and there but to hell with that! I wasn't going to waste any more time in this damned company!
"Back off!"
"KYAAAAAH!"
"UWAAAAH!"
With the newfound confidence, I used the bullying that my former coworkers were still keeping up to my advantage and shooed them away from the elevators with a mere stomp – when I look at it like that, it felt like a power move and not them picking on me!
Already inside an elevator, I was tapping my foot impatiently, watching the floor numbers change while glaring at everyone who tried to enter the elevator, sending them screaming back in terror.
….ugh, what a bunch of crappy people...!
I thought to myself and rushed out as soon as I arrived on the first floor.
"Here! I won't be needing that anymore!"
"AH!"
I scoffed at the security guard, snapped off the employee's card from my neck, and threw it at him – which made the guy hide under his desk as if it was a live grenade.
HOW MANY THINGS CAN HAPPEN IN ONE DAY?!
I asked myself furiously stomping so hard as if the sidewalk had also done me some great disservice.
Seriously!
It's like everything is a bad dream!
This day cannot get any weirder!
"There you are! Why didn't you called anyone after you woke up?!"
I foolishly thought to myself before a luxurious sports car pulled over right as I was walking towards the bus stop and someone called at me from the inside sounding very much as furious as I was.
