I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t looking for Zariah. But then, I hadn’t actually thought I’d run into her out here. I thought I’d have to go to her house and throw rocks at her window or something like that. Instead, I’ve stumbled upon her standing outside near the edge of the forest talking to… no one?
“Who were you talking to?” I’d asked. She turns around and looks behind her, the way she’d been facing before, but when she turns back to look at me, I can tell she’s confused.
“Uhm, no one,” she mutters, her eyes still darting about as she looks around her. “Just… myself.”
I arch an eyebrow but decide not to question her. She’s been through a lot and is probably just standing out here venting or something, not expecting anyone else to be out so late. I have to wonder why she is here. She was just kidnapped after all. But then, Zariah has always been fearless. I take a few steps closer to her, expecting her to retreat.
