Capítulo 10: Seasons Pass

After I advanced to Strongman, I quickly sent Magnus a letter about it. I got a reply later that dropped a massive weight back onto my shoulders. Apparently, the knight chapter was still in need of work, mastery of the knight chapter is required to reach every rank ever even theorized. If fact, he even named something called a sage. What even is a sage, anyway? Fortunately he also said that I only had to be a strongman to start using the baron chapter. In fact, most chapters I can look ahead and know the requirements for practicing. As an example, the next chapter, viscount, requires only that I have an adequate understanding of faith. The last thing he warned me about was that the technique was still incomplete. As such, sooner or later, I will encounter difficulty practicing the technique.

The baron chapter is making no headway. It was not that I had not achieved a level of admiration among those here, but rather that this admiration was for saving the girl, and when I did that I dislocated my arm. I am also at a disadvantage due to my age.

But, there is hope. Eventually we must exterminate the wolves. Because of the weather, we can't send out an expedition with any mobility, so we have decided to wait for things to warm up before challenging them. If I can demonstrate growth there I can gain more faith then I have now.

For now I have to review the Rulers Formula. The Rulers Formula says that a leader must prove their ability to lead to the people by enforcing law and order, by being decisive, and by proving their strength.

This sounded simple enough. By killing the wolves, I should be able to prove my strength. After that I must find an opportunity to be familiarised with law more before I start enforcing justice. Being decisive requires judgements to be made, and I don't make too many judgements just yet.

I saw baron Bob in a meeting with the village tailor. Her name is Gretel and she was discussing the fee to commission some clothes. The thing that stood out to me is that both of them started to smile and laugh at jokes that really didn't sound too good. Perhaps I am missing something. The only time I have seen people act like that was when lords and ladies were together at... oh. I don't want to assume anything, so I will ask the maid. If there is one thing I remember about the maids back home, they loved to talk about such things. Looking back on it, that was about all they could do outside of work. When I approached the maid, she said that she would have to see herself.

As time was passing, I took a moment to observe patterns within the hamlet. First I noticed a man reading a scroll to the populace . Upon asking Bob, the world is mostly illiterate, so rather than post such things, it is read to the public by a scribe. Upon further thought, most people are too poor to afford not only the tuition fees, but also just not working for an extended period of time. Therefore, most people don't have any opportunity achieve even basic education. However, this subject irks me somewhat. If the peasantry can't afford a full education, why not offer just the important bits. Peasants don't need to know the full ancestry of the kingdom, nor do they need etiquette beyond a point. They most certainly don't need astrology, rhetoric, philosophy, or music. Those only help people who make decisions and most peasants aren't making such decisions. What they need is reading, writing, mathematics, kingdom law, and trade specific knowledge. Maybe some advanced classrooms for merchants, doctors, and other advanced trades. While the expenses would be beyond the limit of a common person, four classes should be few enough to teach people in mass. Once the program started, the costs of associated goods would drop as merchants find cheaper ways to produce paper and ink and teachers start making their own materials. Once the four core classes were implemented, materials could be made for more specific trades. When I went to Bob with it, he said he recalled similar plans had been proposed, but the king had struck it down as too costly. He also remembered the laughter from the court once the scholar left.

REFLEXIONES DE LOS CREADORES
AnUnknownMan AnUnknownMan

The flaws in the Rulers Formula is because it was created not by a nobleman, but by a martial artist. The true version goes something like this (and is still liable to change, I should read something on the subject. Please provide advice in the comments):

A ruler must balance justice and forgiveness. A ruler must both appear kind and be bold. A ruler must promise stability to the peasantry, upper class, and foreign nations alike.
