After teleporting back to his dorm room, Rayne got straight to work. He began sorting through his system inventory, eager to make some space for new items he planned to keep in the future. As he rummaged through the various objects, his attention was caught by a bunch of food items, including some chicken nuggets that had clearly seen better days.
But among the stale food, one item stood out to him - a packet of dumplings. They had been one of Mina's favorite foods, and he couldn't help but feel a pang of sadness as he thought of his old traveling companion. She had been such a good friend, and he wondered what her soul was doing now. After all, souls were said to be immortal, and they kept reincarnating until they achieved nirvana, at which point they were given a place in heaven according to their karmic value.
Rayne closed his eyes, allowing the memories to flood back to him. He remembered the long, arduous journeys they had undertaken together, the battles they had fought side by side, and the laughter they had shared. But he also remembered the day he had lost her - the day when she had sacrificed herself to save him from a powerful enemy.
Tears welled up in Rayne's eyes as he thought of all the things he had never been able to say to Mina, all the moments they would never get to share. He wiped his eyes and took a deep breath, trying to regain his composure. Then, he packed the dumplings into his inventory, determined to keep them as a reminder of his friend.
"Ah, sigh, what a life I've lived. If my mother could see all the things I've done, would she be proud? She used to tell me to be kind to others, to give them a second chance and to always try to save as many lives as possible. But at the end of the day, what have I become? A murderer. How many people have I killed? I don't even know, I've lost count. How many lives have I taken? Another question whose answer I don't know, lost count of it. In the nightmare realm, I killed so much that I almost reached godhood, but what did I gain? I lost everything. I lost my ability to perform magic, I lost my friends, companions, allies, and comrades. I lost everything. What am I? What have I become? A cold-blooded murderer, the thing that I was not meant to be. I was supposed to be a doctor, someone who gives hope to people to live, not someone who takes it away." Rayne thought with remorse
After brooding for some time, Rayne's gaze fell on the weapons that once belonged to his friends - weapons that he now considered a symbol of their brotherhood and sisterhood. He took them in his hands and headed towards his dorm room wall, where he carefully adorned them as a tribute to his fallen comrades. As he stood back to admire his handiwork, his eyes fell on the oni mask that Mina used to wear during battles. It covered her lower face, and as Rayne picked it up, tears started to stream down his face.
He had always felt a strange connection to Mina - something beyond the boundaries of friendship or siblinghood. Perhaps it was the fact that they were both blessed by divinity, or maybe it was the way she always seemed to understand him without him having to say a word. Regardless of the reason, Rayne knew that he missed her dearly.
With a heavy heart, he placed the oni mask on his desk beside his laptop. The scent of Mina's blood still lingered on it, as if it was fresh. Without a second thought, Rayne took out a blood bag that he had stolen from a vampire base and started to drink the blood. It was a way to ease his melancholy, but it didn't bring him any comfort. The memories of Mina were still fresh in his mind and like that he fell asleep.
---------------
At around 6:44 PM, Rayne woke up from his slumber feeling groggy. He sluggishly made his way towards the bathroom and completed his daily hygiene routine before embarking on an intense training regimen. After a refreshing shower, he got dressed for another day at school and headed towards the canteen, where he ordered a burger and a large glass of mixed fruit juice. Satisfied, he went to class and took his seat beside Peter, noticing how Layla would occasionally glare at him with anger.
After classes, as Rayne walked down the hallway, he overheard some students talking about the missing students. "Did you hear? Apparently, the missing students are back," one student said. "Are you sure?" another asked. "Yeah, I saw Vordenn walking back to the dorms, and Professor Del was cheering loudly in the hallway," the first student replied.
Suddenly, Rayne saw Layla break into a sprint in the direction of the boy's dorm, probably to see Quinn. Rayne let out a sigh before he decided to slowly make his way towards the infirmary, where he could sense Quinn's aura signature. On his way, he asked Peter to come with him to make amends.
As Rayne and Peter entered the doctor's office, they saw Layla and Quinn talking. Rayne grabbed Peter's wrist and led him towards Quinn's bed. "How are you doing? I heard that you were thrown into a portal," Rayne said.
"Yeah, I was thrown into it by some moron," Quinn said, growling in Peter's direction.
"Now, don't be so hard on him. Peter, do as I said," Rayne said.
Peter immediately bowed in 90 degrees and said, "Please forgive me, please forgive me."
"Yeah, now stop it," Quinn practically growled, but there was still a hint of sympathy on his face.
"Now, what were you two lovebirds talking about?" Rayne teased Layla and Quinn, not realizing how his words made them blush. Hayley arrived and joined in on the teasing before handing Quinn his report, stating that he was healthy and good to go. As they were leaving, Rayne asked to inspect the report and noticed that everything was normal before handing it back to Quinn.
After returning to his room, Rayne made his way to the Manga store. Today's combat classes were canceled due to the teacher needing to make a report on what had happened. On his way to the store, Rayne decided to treat himself to a smoothie and some chili fries. Upon arrival, Arvon Winter, the store owner, asked why he came in early.
"Feeling bored, didn't have anything to do," Rayne replied. Arvon raised an eyebrow and commented, "I have seen how you walk. You probably practice taekwondo, don't you?"
Rayne confirmed that he did practice taekwondo, and Arvon suggested they spar since a taekwondo master could only breakthrough in a battle against another one. Rayne agreed, and Arvon led him to the backyard of the shop, which was fashioned like a place where one would master martial arts from kung-fu movies. After bowing, they assumed fighting postures.
As soon as both fighters assumed their fighting stance, Arvon made the first move. He charged forward with a powerful front kick aimed at Rayne's chest, but Rayne quickly dodged to the side, and countered with a swift roundhouse kick aimed at Arvon's midsection. Arvon blocked it with ease and then launched a series of rapid kicks, which Rayne managed to evade, barely.
Arvon continued to push Rayne back with his attacks, but Rayne was holding his own. He managed to deflect Arvon's kicks with his forearms and countered with a flurry of punches that forced Arvon to back off. As the spar continued, Arvon took the opportunity to offer some tips and advice to Rayne.
"Your kicks are good, but you need to work on your speed," Arvon said. "A faster kick can catch your opponent off guard and give you an advantage."
Rayne nodded, taking in Arvon's words as he continued to spar with him. They exchanged blows back and forth, both fighters demonstrating their mastery of taekwondo techniques. As they fought, Rayne began to understand the true power of Arvon's unique form of taekwondo.
"This style is incredible," Rayne said, impressed by Arvon's movements. "It's so different from what I've learned before."
"That's because my style was developed for a specific purpose," Arvon replied, his eyes focused on Rayne. "It's designed to kill, not just disable."
Despite the seriousness of Arvon's words, the spar continued to be friendly and respectful. Both fighters were enjoying the challenge and learning from each other. As the sun began to set, they eventually called an end to the spar, each bowing to the other in respect.
"That was amazing," Rayne said, catching his breath. "Thank you, Mr Winter. I learned so much from you."
Arvon nodded, a small smile on his face. "You're a skilled fighter, Rayne. Keep practicing, and you'll continue to improve."
"Now how about we go out and eat something before we open the store?" Arvon said with a smile.
"Yeah, that would be amazing," Rayne said, feeling hungry due to his metabolism.
Soon, both of them left and made their way towards a pizza store where Arvon ordered a large pizza, and both of them shared a meal while drinking some cola.
After returning to the store, both of them went to work, and soon Selene arrived. She was at first shocked to see that Rayne had arrived so early, and the rest of the day was spent chatting with people about various theories, as well as pointing out plot holes in various books. As he was going around, he saw a girl holding onto a game that was kept in the anime game section. It was an otome game named Diabolik Lovers. Not knowing what it was, he went on to find Selene and asked for her help with the customer. At that moment, he realized, as he heard Selene talk, that it was a game about vampires and a human girl. A common trope probably also contained a love triangle or love hexagon, but he didn't know too much about it. Apparently, Selene had all of a sudden invited him to her dorm room to watch this same anime. He didn't know if that was even allowed, like inviting a male student to a female student dorm room. Who knows?
After finishing work, Rayne went with Selene until she reached her dorm room. Then he made his way towards his own dorm room, and as he was walking, he noticed a boy sleeping on the floor outside the dorm room door of Peter and Quinn.
"Is that Peter?" Rayne asked himself before making his way towards him. After reaching him, Rayne shook him to wake him up.
After waking up, Peter looked around himself before spotting Rayne.
"What happened? Why are you sleeping outside?" Rayne asked.
"They didn't allow me inside," Peter said, while crying.
Rayne massaged his temple a little bit before sighing and saying, "Come with me. You'll be sleeping in my room."
Hearing Rayne's proposition, Peter's eyes twinkled, but then he hesitated. "But I deserve this. I shouldn't have done it."
"You should not worry about such things. Trust me and come. From tomorrow onwards, I will be training you into a fine man, and if you want forgiveness, just don't get yourself involved with the second year's business," Rayne said.
Peter nodded on hearing him and then followed him to his dorm room where he slept on the bed while Rayne worked on his PC throughout the night.
