Capítulo 134: Chapter 133 "Divine Aegis"

At half-past eleven at night, Skyler cast an invisible phantom spell on himself and silently departed from the Slytherin common room.

Skyler's destination was Hagrid's Hut.

Had the original novel's plot not veered off course, this day would mark Charlie Weasley and his team's transport of the fire Dragon from the Romanian Dragon Sanctuary to Hogwarts.

As the gamekeeper, Hagrid would be tasked with designating an area as a temporary habitat for the fire Dragons and welcoming the Romanian visitors.

The venue lay shrouded in darkness. Skyler treaded the lawn toward the faint glow emanating from Hagrid's hut. Beauxbatons' immense carriage was also illuminated, with the voices of Madame Maxime audible as one drew near.

After about five minutes of anticipation, Hagrid emerged from the hut, strolling energetically while humming an off-key tune. He headed toward Beauxbatons' carriage.

Hagrid knocked three times on the door adorned with two crossed golden wands.

Madame Maxime opened the door, a silk shawl draped over her exceptionally broad shoulders. She offered a slight smile upon seeing Hagrid.

After exchanging a few trivial greetings, the two strolled side by side toward the periphery of the temporary enclosure. Their path led them far around the edge of the Forbidden Forest, the castle and the lake gradually disappearing from view.

Suddenly, shouts and yells echoed from the front.

Four enormous fire Dragons came into sight.

Well, it's a fire Dragon, and the plot remains unchanged.

Furthermore, the fire Dragons originated from the Romanian Dragon Sanctuary, where Skyler holds the position of the second-largest shareholder.

Skyler is acquainted with most of the employees at the Sanctuary, minimizing the likelihood of these fire Dragons being replaced or tampered with.

If any abnormalities had occurred at the Sanctuary in the past few months, Skyler, as a major shareholder, would undoubtedly be privy to such information.

It's worth noting that the head of the Sanctuary is an acquaintance of Skyler—a member of the Malfoy family introduced by him—while Charlie Weasley serves as the deputy head.

Despite the discord between the Weasleys and Skyler and their differing positions, Skyler acknowledges Charlie's proficiency in raising Dragons. Skyler maintains a degree of tolerance, but advancing to a more pivotal role or securing a promotion might prove challenging for Charlie.

Skyler observed Karkaroff trailing behind them, but he paid little attention.

So what if these individuals are privy to the subject matter? The magical confidentiality contract established by Dumbledore himself is impervious to breach, considering their capabilities.

Even Hagrid didn't dare invite Harry to witness this spectacle. Skyler is willing to wager that Hagrid has contemplated the idea, yet the power of the contract would constrain him, rendering him unable to act upon such thoughts.

Skyler found himself delighted by the unfolding situation. His proposal wasn't merely aimed at securing a victory in the Triwizard Tournament; it was, in fact, his initial move against Barty Crouch Jr.

He anticipated how Crouch would attempt to disrupt and hinder Harry, and the success of his strategy hinged on how effectively he could unravel and counteract Crouch's machinations in the first task.

Simultaneously, he looked forward to witnessing the Champions' performances when faced with the unknown challenges ahead.

On the morning of November 22, Skyler, armed with the knowledge of the upcoming task, exuded confidence. He went back to the Slytherin Chamber of Secrets, dedicating his time to refining his Transfiguration skills and strategizing his approach to overcome the Fire Dragon.

While he possessed over five methods to handle the Fire Dragon, Skyler refused to settle for a mere victory in the game. He aimed to showcase his full potential and secure a resounding triumph. The goal was not merely to win but to do so in the most spectacular and impressive manner possible.

He considered various approaches, eliminating some from consideration. The Conjunctivitis Curse was dismissed since Eleanor and Catalina, being direct descendants of the family, undoubtedly understood how it could be employed against the Fire Dragon.

Transforming a puppy into a Fire Dragon was also deemed impractical—what if the Dragon accidentally harmed the innocent creature?

Similarly, using hypnotic magic to lull the Fire Dragon into a deep sleep was deemed futile due to the Dragon's formidable magic resistance and the absence of Veela blood bonuses.

Skyler grappled with various strategies to confront the Fire Dragon, exploring the potential of different spells and curses.

The sonic boom spell coupled with the flashbang spell seemed like a viable option, creating a stunning effect to seize the golden egg. However, he dismissed the idea as it lacked the desired flair.

Considering severe fire curses, continuous explosion curses, or soul attacks, Skyler contemplated the ethical implications. While possibly effective, the prospect of slaying a Dragon raised moral concerns. Could such an act be considered a victory?

Amid his contemplation, Skyler examined the books on his table, each chosen with the intention of aiding him in the task. As his eyes fell on a book in the far corner, a bold idea crystallized in his mind. This plan held promise, contingent on ensuring the Fire Dragon couldn't retaliate.

Abandoning reliance on transfiguration, Skyler shifted his focus to the protective magic he had been diligently studying. Most of the protective spells or charms were already within his mastery. However, their effectiveness came at the cost of increased restrictions.

He also possessed knowledge of using Guruni to cast spells, particularly invoking eihwaz, his most potent protective magic. Yet, its drawback lay in its brief duration.

While suitable for withstanding a wave of attacks from adversaries like Peter Pettigrew, it proved inadequate against the sustained assaults of a fire-breathing Dragon.

However, this obstacle did not deter him from seeking innovative solutions.

His primary goal was to identify the optimal point among the three variations of the Shield Charm. The challenge lay in achieving a more potent effect than the Shield Charm itself without complicating the spell excessively.

Moreover, the spell's duration should not exceed the time it takes for the Fire Dragon to invade.

In Skyler's perspective, the key factor was the speed of spellcasting. Regardless of a spell's potency, its power would be rendered ineffectual if it couldn't be cast swiftly.

An advantage he possessed was the ability to simultaneously cast spells with both hands.

His strategy involved developing a new protective magic that surpassed the Shield Charm in effect. Simultaneously, by using Guruni to invoke Eihwaz, he planned to superimpose two layers of protective covers, ensuring comprehensive safety.

The brief duration of the Guruni Talisman was due to the magic power of the outlined symbol being unable to linger in mid-air. However, if it could be affixed to other magic spells, utilizing them as carriers, the effectiveness could be prolonged—an intricate process but not impossible.

Armed with a time hourglass, Skyler had ample time to experiment with this magic. He commenced the unraveling of the incantation against all evil, a complex process that even Professor Flitwick took nearly five minutes to recite, emphasizing the incantation's considerable length.

The initial modification Skyler implemented involved systematically eliminating the less crucial spell syllables.

These pronunciations, primarily serving to aid the spell caster in altering pronunciation for improved fluency, held no significance in the process of converting magic power into magical effects. Given Skyler's expertise, they became redundant.

A second point of refinement sacrificed a portion of the protection range. Skyler identified spell syllables focused on expanding the protection range and eliminated most of them.

He deemed it sufficient for the protective range to cover him alone, ensuring a 360-degree coverage without blind spots.

Lastly, drawing inspiration from the Shield Charm and the Imperturbable Charm, Skyler meticulously selected spell syllables to enhance protective strength. These chosen pronunciations were then incorporated into the spell.

After hours of concentrated effort, Skyler gazed upon a parchment adorned with chaotic markings, a satisfied expression adorning his face. "It's done!" he exclaimed.

He named this newly crafted magic combination' Divine Aegis.'

Coincidentally, a crackle resonated as he set down the parchment, and both Winky and Dobby appeared simultaneously.

Dobby bowed respectfully and reported, "Master, as per your instructions, we've diligently monitored Moody and Hogwarts with a spyglass, detecting no signs of suspicious individuals. However, a signal has emanated from the Miraculous Alchemy, indicating the presence of unfamiliar faces in Hogsmeade Village. Approximately five of them."

Skyler's eyes gleamed with anticipation—are they finally approaching, these creatures and miscreants?

He spoke solemnly, "Well done! Do you know where they've settled?"

"It's an old vacant house on the edge of the village. Dobby contacted Mrs. Bones on behalf of the owner and obtained the Magic Land Deed Registration Branch records of Hogsmeade. Master, please take a look." With those words, Dobby respectfully presented a sheepskin scroll sealed with a secret spell.

Skyler nodded, acknowledging Dobby's resourcefulness. The elf demonstrated an increasing ability to carry out tasks without explicit instructions, showcasing growing competence.

Drawing his wand, Skyler lightly touched the scroll with its tip. As he read the name, a wicked smile crossed his face. Just as he finished perusing the parchment, it spontaneously combusted and swiftly disintegrated into nothingness, leaving no trace behind.

"Dobby, please contact Bathory. She can transform into bats and shadows, making her suitable for sneaking. Ask her to help me uncover the identities of these people."

"Yes!" Dobby responded and departed.

"Twinkle, how is Harry Potter's situation?" Skyler inquired with a deep voice.

"Master, due to various rumors targeting him recently, Potter appears to have lost confidence. He's hardly engaged in any competition-related practice and has even abandoned his daily studies. His Charms class, in particular, suffered a setback when he failed the summoning curse and was subsequently detained by Flitwick. Fortunately, Moody intervened, taking him away for private tutoring to help him master the summoning spell."

"Ah, that's it. Even if I can't inform the Warriors about the game, can Barty Crouch Jr. still prepare all the spells and tools that can be used for Harry in advance?

It seems you really can't underestimate these people; they are smarter than you think!" Skyler thought to himself.

"Very good. Have you been discovered by Moody? His prosthetic eyes are quite troublesome."

Shining responded respectfully, "No problem. The Master's invisible phantom spell is truly powerful and effective for us elves. I can stand right in front of Moody, and he wouldn't sense anything."

Skyler nodded with satisfaction and then inquired, "Where are those families in France? How are you contacting them?"

"You've already contacted the Delacour family. Mr. Delacour agreed to your proposal and conditions. He will lead several families who are related to him as cousins to form an alliance with the Master. All the details are written in this secret letter." Saying this, Shining respectfully presented a red envelope, emanating conspicuous magic fluctuations.

Skyler recited the French version of the spell: "Finite Incantatem!"

After a while, the magical waves on the envelope slowly dissipated. According to the pre-arranged code, if the letter accidentally falls into the hands of others, and that person reads the curse in English or Latin, the letter will explode, delivering a big surprise.

Skyler read the contents of the letter, and after perusing it, he stashed the letter into his secured folder, categorizing it under the French section.

The letter primarily constitutes a magically binding alliance agreement, meticulously detailing every family closely associated with Mr. Delacour, and all these families will form an alliance with Skyler in accordance with the agreed terms.

Even though the Delacour family is of mixed race, Mr. Delacour's mother-in-law, being a pure-blood Veela, establishes an exceptionally close relationship between the Delacour family and the French Veela tribe through his wife, Apolline Delacour.

Veela, born with the ability to charm, typically takes on the appearance of a beautiful woman, transforming into a harpy-like figure when angered. Though their numbers are scarce and they lack formidable magic beyond their charm, their marriages to many wizards have resulted in numerous mixed-race descendants.

With the Veela tribe as the epicenter, a vast and intricately woven network of interpersonal relationships unfolds. Consequently, the Delacour family takes center stage, boasting an extensive web of connections in the French wizarding world.

Of course, Mr. Delacour claims all these individuals are his cousins—The Everest family, the Bonacud family, the Amorino family, and more.

These families, though of mixed-blood heritage, each excel in diverse fields in France. Leveraging their connections through Veela marriages, they've covertly established a network rivaling that of pure-blood families. The Everest family specializes in herbology. Mr. Everest holds a high-level managerial position at the Magic Garden in the Pyrenees (owned by the Ministry of Magic across various European countries).

Mr. Bonacud serves as the French representative of the International Federation of Wizards, while Amorino holds the position of editor-in-chief at "The Stone Wings."

The letter further notes that his daughter, Fleur Delacour, is aware of the two alliances. During her tenure at Hogwarts, she pledges unconditional cooperation with all of Skyler's endeavors.

Excellent! With this development, even the matter of planting a spy in Beauxbatons' carriage has been resolved.
