PREVENTING LANDSLIDES
The first step to preventing landslides is to prevent soil erosion on highlands.
To prevent erosion, methods like terracing which have the potential to reduce the speed of rainwater flowing downstream are necessary.
Reducing the speed of downstream rainwater flow can reduce the scale of erosion.
The most important method however is to increase the number of cover crops and trees on the highlands.
These cover crops can serve as a break for raindrops to deduce the amount of rainwater that makes contact with the ground by absorbing some of it as well as the force of its fall via leaves and branches.
The most important function of the cover crops however lie in their roots and the ability of the roots to bind loose soil together thus preventing soil erosion.
Landslides are the final result of soil erosion on highlands thus by reducing the scale of erosion, it is possible to eliminate the danger of landslides.
