Capítulo 38: Chapter 38: The Countdown Begins

As the months passed, the anticipation of the baby's arrival grew stronger. The nursery was fully decorated, filled with soft colors and gentle toys. Elliot and Alice had spent countless hours assembling furniture, painting walls, and picking out the perfect bedding. Every little detail reflected their dreams for the future—a future they were building together.

One evening, as they sat in the cozy nursery surrounded by baby clothes and plush toys, Alice let out a sigh of contentment. "I can't believe we're finally here. It feels surreal."

Elliot leaned back in the rocking chair, watching her with a smile. "It really does. I never thought I'd be this excited about parenting. It's like everything we've been through has led us to this moment."

"Exactly! It's like our struggles were meant to teach us how to appreciate this," Alice replied, her eyes shining with happiness.

Just then, Alice felt a familiar flutter in her stomach. She looked at Elliot, her face lighting up. "Oh! I think the baby just kicked!"

Elliot's eyes widened with excitement. "Really? I want to feel it!" He quickly moved closer, placing his hand on her belly.

Alice smiled as she felt another kick. "There it is!"

Elliot's expression shifted from curiosity to awe as he felt the gentle movement beneath his palm. "Wow, that's amazing! It's like the baby knows we're talking about it," he said, grinning from ear to ear.

They spent the next few moments in silence, both lost in the experience of feeling their baby move. The air was thick with a sense of anticipation, and Elliot felt a surge of emotions he couldn't quite name.

As the weeks rolled on, Alice and Elliot attended regular prenatal check-ups. During one visit, they learned that they would soon find out the baby's gender. The couple exchanged excited glances, both eager to know more about their little one.

"Are you ready for this?" Alice asked, her hands resting protectively on her belly.

Elliot nodded, his heart racing. "Absolutely. I can't wait to start calling the baby by name instead of 'it.'"

The day of the gender reveal arrived, and the couple decided to keep it intimate, inviting only their parents and a few close friends. Alice's parents, Richard and Evelyn, arrived with gifts and decorations to mark the occasion. The excitement in the room was palpable as they gathered in the backyard, ready to unveil the news.

Elliot took a deep breath, holding Alice's hand tightly as they prepared to cut into the cake that would reveal the color inside. He felt a mix of nerves and joy, knowing that this moment was significant for them both.

"On the count of three!" Richard announced, his voice booming with enthusiasm. "One… two… three!"

Alice and Elliot sliced the cake, revealing bright blue frosting nestled inside. The crowd erupted in cheers, and Alice's face broke into a radiant smile.

"It's a boy!" she exclaimed, tears of joy glistening in her eyes.

Elliot pulled her into an embrace, lifting her off the ground in his excitement. "We're having a son!"

Richard and Evelyn exchanged proud glances, while Alice's friends hugged her, showering her with compliments. The atmosphere was filled with laughter and celebration, and for the first time in a long while, Elliot felt completely at peace.

As the evening wore on, Alice's friends gathered around her, asking her about baby names and plans for the nursery. Elliot stood nearby, watching Alice glow with happiness as she engaged with her friends.

One of Alice's friends leaned in, whispering conspiratorially. "You've changed so much since you got married. You seem happier than ever."

Alice blushed, glancing at Elliot. "I really have. I think it's because we've finally found our rhythm together. It's like we're both growing into our roles as partners and parents."

Later that evening, as the party began to wind down, Elliot and Alice found a quiet moment together on the patio. The stars twinkled overhead, and the cool breeze wrapped around them, offering a comforting embrace.

"I can't believe we're going to be parents," Elliot said, his voice filled with wonder. "A little boy, Alice. We're really doing this."

Alice smiled, leaning her head against his shoulder. "We are. And I can't wait to see you as a dad. You're going to be incredible."

Elliot chuckled softly. "I hope so. I just want to be everything for him that I didn't have growing up."

As they sat in comfortable silence, the reality of parenthood washed over them. They knew there would be challenges ahead, but the bond they had forged through their journey would only strengthen their resolve.

In the weeks that followed, Elliot's focus shifted. While he remained committed to his role as CEO, he also began to prioritize family time, often surprising Alice with thoughtful gestures—a cozy dinner date, a spontaneous trip to the beach, or simply spending evenings talking about their dreams for their son.

Alice felt grateful for Elliot's commitment and dedication, knowing that he was actively working to create a warm and loving environment for their family. She marveled at how he balanced his responsibilities with being present, often finding him late at night, poring over parenting books while jotting down notes.

One evening, as they settled into bed, Alice turned to Elliot, her expression serious. "You know, I've been thinking about how we want to raise him. I want us to be involved in his life, to encourage his passions and interests."

Elliot nodded, pulling her closer. "I agree. I want to support him in whatever he chooses, just like you. We can create a space where he feels safe to explore and grow."

"I love that," Alice said, feeling her heart swell. "We're going to be a great team, Elliot. I know it."

As they drifted off to sleep that night, the couple felt a sense of calm wash over them. They were ready for the journey ahead, hand in hand, embracing the challenges and joys that awaited them as parents.
