"But aren't demons supposed to be cruel?" Seraphina asked.

Ryu frowned and looked to the side. Ferris was cruel, but she was the only one who helped him when the others treated him as nothing more than a slave.

Marcus shrugged. "Those who are powerful and useful are treated well while those who are not . . .  well . . . they just have to suck it in if they wanted to stay alive and reach the next exit."

Marcus then shook his head and forced a smile. "Enough about that. Let me tell you about our organization here since you decided to stay. We don't have a complicated system, just the basics to keep everyone afloat and alive."
