Capítulo 126: An exquisite meal

“Are you doing ok there?” My grandpa asked me over the phone. His voice filled with nervousness and worry. Was he regretting sending me out here with Alexander, alone?

“I’ve only been here for like 3 hours, and you’re the one who wanted me to go. Are you regretting your decision now?” I can feel him shaking his head over the phone. This is the second time he has called me; Alexander and I are kind of getting annoyed by it.

I understand that he wants to make sure I’m ok, but I don’t think anything will happen tonight. Were just going to stay in, watch a movie and eat dinner. There really isn’t anything interesting to do in San Francisco right now. It’s meant to be a stay in night, just the two of us.

“No, no I’m not. Just. . .call me if anything happens ok.”

“Sure.” On the phone I can hear someone speaking over a speaker. “. . .Dr. Worthingshire to Room 105.” The woman on the speak voices.

“Grandpa are you at work?” I asked.

“I couldn’t stay in the house. Irene’s out with friends, and I needed to catch up on work anyways.”

“It sounds like your needed, call me tomorrow?”

“You got it. Bye honey.” He speaks.

“Bye.” I say back. Hanging up the phone I see Alexander in his all-white kitchen walking around hastily. For the past hour he’s been whipping up a meal, what that is I have no idea. He won’t let me into the kitchen, but he is letting me stand on the outskirts of it. Around his waist is a flowerily kitchen apron.

He looks up from his cooking to see me staring at him. Trying to uncover the hidden recipe he was conjuring up in there. “Hey turn around. I don’t want you to see what I’m making yet.” He ushers his wet hands to turn me around. I comply and turn around, slowly, so I can try to make out what he’s making. Nothing was discovered.

“Come on Alexander. It smells amazing if that helps.” I tell him. He scoffs behind me, not buying me sucking up to him.

“You're not going to see what it is. Just. . .look out the window I’m almost done.” While he gets the food ready I do just what he says and stare out the window. With it being night, it’s actually quite beautiful outside. The lights from the many tall building light up in the inside. Some buildings Christmas lights are still up. The many colorful lights shine bright and reflect off my glasses.

When I was packing up all my stuff, I forgot to bring my contacts and contact solution. So, now I have to wear my big, geeky glasses from freshman year. I look like Urkel from family matter, but modern. Behind me I hear him moving around erratically, sounds of plates, spoons and glasses clank on his all-white table. The all-white table that looks like it hasn’t been used in month, most likely ever.

“You need help?” I ask him. It sounds like he needs help.

“I got it. I’m a big boy, I’m almost done.” The mystery food he makes the smells fills the room around us. I can make out some of the smells, onions, and some spices. Whatever he’s making I’m convinced it’s going to smell good. “Ok, now I’m ready. Close your eyes.”

“But I don’t wanna.” I whine. My stomach starts to rumple, I push my hands on it trying to silence it.

“Your stomach is growling, indicating you're hungry. The longer you defy me, the longer it takes to eat.” His arms wrap around my waist, pulling me close to his chest. I can feel his breath breathing smoothly onto the nape of my neck. His manly smell engulfs me, I’m entranced. “Now, close your eyes.” Reluctantly, I close my eyes. The part about me being hungry is what moves me to comply. While his one hand is on my eyes, the other is directing my hips to the chair.

My hands feel out for it. A pointy part of the chair pokes my hand, I wince out in pain. “You alright?” Alexander asks.

“Yeah, I’m fine.” I find the seat of the chair and pop a squat. His hands come from my eyes, but I keep them close. He walks over to his chair; I can feel him moving stuff around.

“Ok, now you can open your eyes.” I open them to see a beautiful scene. Two thin candles sit in the middle of the table, the candle fire moves around to the air. On the side is a pot filled with water and it has Lotus flowers hanging out of it. The beautiful pink colors set the mood for the whole evening. All the silver wear, plates and glasses are neatly organized on the table.

“Alexander- this is amazing. So beautiful and the meal smells good. Wait. . .what is this?” It’s a swirl of vegetables with some sauce rolling off of it. “Oh my god, this is not what I think it is.”

“It is.” Is all he says.

“Ratatouille.” He nods. “How did you know I’ve always wanted to try Ratatouille?”

“When I picked you up from The Tribune that one time I talked to Lyra. You were late coming out so we conversated. At the time I wanted to make you a nice meal so I asked what’s something you wanted to eat but never tried. She then told me about Ratatouille.” He explains.

“Thank god for Lyra. I didn’t know that Ratatouille was made out of vegetables.”

“What did you think it was made out of?” He takes a slug of his water. His Adams apple bobs up and down as he does so. The stubble prickles against the edges of the cup.

“Like sausage or something.” He gives me a dumbfounded look. “Hey! Don’t judge me, cartoons don’t make food look like it does in real life.”

“Just eat your food.” I pick up my sterling fork and pluck two vegetables with it. The sauce drips off out it. Putting it onto my mouth, all the flavors mix together. Creating this mixture of pure tang. “How is it?”

“Exquisite.” I plucked up some more food, it's so good that I can't get enough.

We spend the rest of the evening just eating and enjoying each other’s company. The meal was so good I had to go for seconds. I was so close to getting a third, but my jeans would have busted open. I can’t believe he could cook so well.

“Who taught you to cook?” I asked Alexander. Currently were laying on his couch. His arm is wrapped around my shoulder as I lay against his shoulder. The only movie on TV right now is Phantom of the Opera.

“My grandfather.” His voice comes out small. He sounds. . .tired. “Besides being an amazing Alpha, he was a good cook.”

“I wish I could have met him.” In the corner of my eye, I see him give me a weird look. I bet his grandfather looked just like him, and his father of course.

“Wish you could have?” There’s a pitch on his voice.

“Yeah, he’s dead.” I replied to him. I readjust myself in his arms and turn around to face him. Our noses practically touching each other.

“No, he’s not. He lives in Europe with my grandmother.” Wait, there both still alive. This whole time I thought he was dead.

“You’ve got be kidding me. The way it came out it seemed that he was dead.” My voice raises a little as I say every single word.

“I gave no indication.” He laughs. “You just heard it wrong.” He kisses me on the lips and focuses his eyes back on the TV. Giving my cheek a light smack.

“I know what I heard.” I mumble under my breath, my arms cross around my chest.

“Hey I’m going to go take my shower and go to bed. Will you be fine?” We finally finish cleaning the kitchen. It took no time since he only had like 10 dishes here, literally only 10.”

“Yeah.” While he goes into his room, I think to myself. Sudden realization overcomes me, I forgot to bring the necklace. The black lotus necklace that I need for the ritual. King Yount said it was muy importante. I need to make up a lie, something that he will believe.

“Alexander!”

“Yeah.” He screams back from the showers.

“I have to go out for something.”

“What for? Wait for me to get done I’ll go with you.”

“Trust me, you don’t want to come. And I need it now.”

“It can’t be that important Quinn.”

“It’s tampons.” Suddenly the apartment is quiet.

“. . .Ok call me when you get there.” Was all he said. Going into the kitchen I grab the keys to his car and head out the door.
