Ibios stood in the sand surrounded by 30 well-trained men, while 30 men seemed like a lot they were nothing compared to the 60 or so men surrounding them. Ibios frowned knowing they were surrounded by the savages his men had warned him about.
Ibios could barely see past his guards, his heart threatened to jump out of his chest gripping his sword he prepared to fight.
"Prince Ibios we're going to create an opening once we do you need to make a run for it and don't look back we may die today but you must live."
Ibios didn't reply as he continued to steel his resolve he didn't want to run, he wanted to fight, he believed himself to be ready. Ibios had been trained alongside his older brother since he could hold a sword properly.
"Ahhhhhh," The Savages roared as they attacked, 1 man charged against 30, Ibios watched as one of his guards stepped forward easily killing the man. Stepping back into line each of his guards grew a little more confident in their chances for survival.
The savages cheered for their fallen ally before one of them stepped forward, pointing his spear "ALALALALA!" 60 or so Savages charged towards the 30 guards as if their lives didn't matter.
Ibios felt the sand beneath his feet as he took a step backward, any further and he would be in the water. The sound of men screaming shook Ibios, his men were dying before his eyes and he could do nothing to stop it. The feeling of powerless invaded his mind, "Stay calm Prince Ibios, get ready we're going to hold them off be sure to run."
His guards which at first numbered 30 had shrunk down to 20 began to push forward swinging their swords brazenly Ibios could only watch as they began to die at a faster rate.
"Run now my prince... GO!"
Ibios shook from his thoughts as he looked at his guard turning to his right he dashed away feeling like a coward with each step he took. He would remember the sacrifice of his guards, He ran as fast as he could and once he could no longer hear the sound of metal clashing he dodged behind a large rock.
The fighting soon ended his 30 or so guards had all been slain. Fortunately, they had killed more than half of the 60 men, they now number 17.
"Where'd the pretty skinned boy go, find him I think the king will be satisfied with this one." A slightly overweight man laughed through his patchy beard as he walked over the dead bodies that surrounded him. Beside him stood men wearing animal cloth for clothes savages would be the best way to describe them.
Not too far away
Ibios Prince of Troy was a thin young man full of vigor, his sky blue eyes shined like stars as his dark brown hair loosely fell to his shoulders. He cowered behind rocks as he looked across the beach, his army of 30 absolutely slaughtered just to allow him a chance to escape.
He knew he would be caught if he didn't make a run for it, although he was only 14 his father had made sure he and his brother knew what to do if such a mishap happened. Looking at his armor he couldn't help but sigh gold traced his black armor covering his chest, his arm guards were beautifully made it was a set of armor befitting a prince.
Even as he admired his armor he knew he wouldn't be able to keep it, it would all have to be hidden even his sword. Keeping any of these items could lead to him being identified by the army of savages, If the situation was different he wouldn't have to worry about any of this.
If things were normal his small army of guards wouldn't currently be dead, It was all his fault and he felt guilty just thinking about it. Visiting the land where such a legend once roamed he was far too enraptured by the prospect. Shaking his head he knew he didn't have time to think about any of that taking off his armor and removing his sword from his waist he quickly dug a hole in the sand. Covering up the armor he was sure no one but him would be able to find it, without the armor he wore a simple chiton that strapped at the shoulder. The bottom of the chiton was covered in decorations practically screaming that he was from Troy. Grabbing his sword destroyed the decorations making it seem as if he was too poor to afford one with decorations on it.
Sheathing the knife in animal hide he placed it inside his chiton in case he would need it. Peering around the rock he could see the group of savages searching for him, not finding him among the dead he was sure they would search his ship next. Leaving now would give him a headstart, he was determined to survive. If not to see his family again then to at least avenge the men who died protecting him.
Following the path of rocks, he soon reached a patch of trees he was sure if he headed deeper in he would eventually run into more people. Whether or not they were savages he didn't really have a choice, he couldn't turn back. The sound of branches cracking forced him to pause looking to his left he spotted one of the savages he was just thinking about.
Slowly reaching inside his chiton he pulled out his sword "Not gonna call the rest of your people?" Ibios raised an eyebrow. From what he had heard these savages were similar to wild animals they didn't believe in tactics but simply using their numbers to overpower their enemies. Ibios's eyes fixated on the blade the savage was wielding. It was trojan handiwork he could tell by the symbol carved on the handle.
"I Monocles have been given orders to bring you back so that the king may taste your skin, but in Thrace, everything is decided by power. I think I'll use your blood as an offering to the Gods maybe they'll bless me with the strength to take my place as king." The Savage grinned with yellow teeth.
internally Ibios was happy, Monocles having is on agenda meant he only had to kill him to continue escaping. He had never killed a man before but he was willing to do so if he meant he could continue living. Tightening his grip on his sword Ibios allowed the animal skin sheathe to fall to the ground. He had been trained by the greatest swordsman in Troy and he was sure he was capable of killing the savage before him.
Monocles charged towards Ibios sword in hand he raised his sword above his head bringing it down with all his strength. Ibios sidestepped to the left watching as Moncles flew past his body Ibios reached out at the last second gripping Monocles by the shoulder he brought his sword up slashing Monocles throat.
Blood sprayed as Monocles choked on his own blood, adrenaline flooded Ibios's body as he looked at the fallen body of Monocles. Ibios was sure any of his men could have killed Monocles in a 1 on 1 fight these savages were only worthy opponents when they outnumbered the enemy.
Lowering his weapon Ibios's began to slowly breathe in and out hoping to calm himself down, closing his eyes he began to relax his breathing. He didn't even notice the spear aiming straight of his shoulder. Looking down Ibios could see it poking through his shoulder, the adrenaline from earlier hadn't left his body yet allowing him to stand up. Turning his head he saw his attacker another savage with a grin on his face.
He was still holding the spear as he watched in glee as Ibios bled from his shoulder. Ibios didn't know if it was the adrenaline or if it was something else, but he clenched his jaw as he slowly walked forward. He ignored the stinging pain as he practically tore himself from the spear, gripping his sword he turned back to the Savage who was no longer grinning.
Ibios looked at the savage holding the spear and he could tell just from his stance he had no training with the spear. Ibios frowned realizing these savages didn't only enjoy to kill they had a knack for plundering the dead.
The savage pulled back the spear before thrusting towards Ibios who simply used his sword to parry the spear before stepping closer to the savage running his sword through his gut. Ibios didn't even look at the savage after killing him picking up the spear he sheathed his sword placing it back in his chiton.
Looking at his left shoulder he couldn't help but frown, he couldn't move his hand luckily the adrenaline numbed the pain. Not looking back Ibios began decided against heading deeper in dealing with two savages was enough, turning to his right he decided to continue following the beach hoping to find a cave or somewhere to hide.
"I've fought hard today guide me, Athena," Ibios whispered and as if she had heard his Prayers Ibios's eyes lit up as he noticed a cave in the distance. It was in an unconventional location hard to spot Ibios truly believed Athena had blessed him.
Speeding up his steps Ibios soon reached the cave he could feel the pain from his shoulder growing with each breath he took. Taking a seat he leaned against a wall he could feel his vision darkening it wouldn't be long before he passed out. He couldn't help but think about the deaths of his men, this whole visit to Thrace was his idea. He snuck away from troy with 30 trained men and sailed to Thrace all to follow his dreams, His biggest wish was to visit the location of Heracles's 12 labors.
Thrace was a dangerous place run by savages even Heracles couldn't change that, Ibios's naivety led to his current predicament. He wondered how his father would react once he realized he would never be able to return home.
His vision blurred as darkness took over his mind, blood still flowed from the wound on his shoulder as he slept.
He opened his eyes to see the same cave his body growing cold laid in the sand, looking around he noticed that everything seemed different. The sand beneath his feet no longer felt course, even his breathing was normal, looking at his shoulder he realized the wound was still there but no blood flowed from it.
"Ibios Prince of Troy," the most beautiful voice he had ever heard shook Ibios looking forward he saw her. In front of him stood a woman she wore a gown laced in gold her dark hair moved with the wind. Ibios was amazed by her beauty looking at his unconscious body and back to the beauty before him he quickly came to a conclusion. Focusing on her face he began to compare her beauty to the paintings that adjourned the vases in the temple.
"Hera?" Ibios spoke in disbelief all men believed in the Gods but to actually meet one and in his time of need it felt unreal.
"Blame my husband for sending no one to protect you." In the eyes of Ibios Hera's beauty vanished replaced with a form worse than that of Madusa.
Hera flicked her wrist sending Ibios back into his body, Flicking her wrist once again Ibios body was sent flying through a portal.
The savages would eventually find the cave, but only a spear and blood-colored sand remained.
This story is a rough draft, So expect the worst I'm just writing it now the more I write the more I'll understand everything. I don't even know how many chapters this will have but I've already planned out the first book, and the beginning of the second.
AN: The water part is kind of weird but I'll leave it in until I find it no longer needed.
Ibios woke to the feeling of his shoulder being on fire opening his eyes he looked at his shoulder the wound was still there but it was darkened as if it had been burned close. Ibios quickly stood to his feet looking around his breathing became heavy gripping his shoulder he couldn't help but whisper "The Gods want me dead."
The land beneath his feet was full of cracks, and through those cracks, he could see the molten lava. He could feel the heat, he felt as if he was on a pyre of fire being roasted alive. The lands above stretched far and wide and yet Ibios saw no other living soul in sight.
Taking his steps lightly he began to explore the land hoping to find a way out, walking forward he realized the more he walked the quicker he realized how far away the land ahead truly was.
Wiping the sweat from his forehead he took a seat, he was sure he would pass out if he didn't take regular breaks through this wasteland.
After each break he would continue his journey with renewed vigor, steadily he seemed to be getting closer to the end of this wasteland. Standing next to a cliff he frowned looking down one would expect to see more lava but instead, water flooded the land below him. A tropical island floated among the water compared to the wasteland behind him it looked like paradise.
Encouraging himself he dived off the cliff holding his breath as he entered the water, the cold water was quite refreshing. His overheated body immediately began to cool down and the wound on his shoulder began to heal. 'What kind of water is this?' Ibios couldn't help but ask himself. Taking a couple of drinks he quickly realized it didn't taste like normal water no it tasted divine.
His shoulder had returned to how it was before he killed those two savages, Ibios was amazed by the water.
Swimming to the island he frowned even the sand seemed different picking up some he quickly realized it wasn't sand it was gold. Heading deeper into the island he found a ran down shack made of wood looking inside he noticed it was empty.
"Over here," He heard a voice as deep as the ocean looking around he found a grey-haired old man wearing the dirtiest cloak he had seen in his entire life. "Come join me," The old man said as he stepped onto a boat.
Ibios realizing this old man was the only other person around saw no reason to deny stepping onto the boat he paid close attention to the old.
Smiling the old man stood to grab a paddle the boat drifted from the land stopping a couple of hundred yards away the old man pulled out a fishing net. throwing it over the side it safely latched onto the small boat. Silence filled the air as the old man closed his eyes relaxing.
"Where are we?" Ibios couldn't help but break the silence.
"That wasteland over there is known as Tartarus, That island right there is known as the Island of the Blessed."
Ibios broke into a cold sweat realizing he had just walked through Tartarus itself ignorant of the hell he was standing in. He had heard Hera's words but he didn't believe she would banish him to Tartarus. A place known to hold the worst of the worst, where the wicked received divine punishment.
Looking at the old man Ibios couldn't help but wonder, "Who are you?"
"No, the real question is who are you?"
The old man's eyes opened wide shining like the stars above and Ibios felt as if his entire being was being dissected. Nothing could be hidden in front of the eyes that felt as if they would pierce his very soul.
"Why did my Daughter Hera send you here, knowing you would never make it out," Ibios couldn't help but shake in fear as he heard the old man's words. He was sitting it the same boat as Kronus the Titan.
"No need to fear me, boy," Kronus stated flatly.
His words did nothing to calm Ibios, 'The Gods hate me, the gods hate me." Ibios couldn't help but curse himself, last week he was sitting in the royal palace of Troy, today he sat in front of the father of gods and goddesses.
As Ibios fear began to grow he began to lose control of his own thoughts even wondering whether or not he should reach for his sword. Slowly the water around him began to act causing Kronus to raise an eyebrow. The boat began to wobble as the water continued to stir before the boat itself was meters above its former position. Sitting atop a wave the boat remained steady but the rest of the water continued to move erratically.
"BOY," Kronus's voice shook Ibios from his thoughts as the movement of the water immediately stopped causing the boat to be affected by gravity slamming heavily into the water Ibios was surprised.
Ibios took deep breaths his eyes still contained fear as he looked at Kronus he hadn't even noticed the display of power he had put on earlier.
"Listen here boy what if I could send you out of here," Ibios ears immediately perked up hearing that. "I can get you out of here but you're going to have to promise me something in return."
"What could I possibly promise you," Ibios knew he was weak he was sure he held nothing the Titan in front of him would want.
"Nothing now, but in the future, you will be able to accomplish this task what do you say?"
"Alright what is it," Ibios nodded knowing his own worth he was sure it wouldn't be something impossible.
"In the future, you will release me from this prison. Don't answer now, right now you will surely say no. But in the future when you discover the true colors of your so-called Gods you'll journey here yourself"
"Deal," Ibios had an idea of what Kronus was playing at he was already on the bad side of one goddess and who's to say he would ever journey here again. He didn't know his future but the title releaser of Kronus didn't seem like something he wanted.
"One more thing Boy, you should consult an oracle better yet, find Prometheus," Kronus left him no chance to reply as he waved his hand propelling the boat forward stopping it just as they reached land. Walking into his shack Cronus returned with a red coin passing it to Ibios he explained, "This coin will send you outside of Tartarus the guards won't notice you."
"If you have this why don't you escape yourself," Ibios raised an eyebrow.
"It only works for a mortal, luckily I had this or you would be stuck here forever as I am. Toss it into the sky it'll take care of the rest. remember it'll be practically useless once you've left Tartarus I won't continue to supply it with power once you've left."
Ibios nodded raising the coin he launched it into the sky and before his very eyes, it began to transform. Becoming a ball it floated to Ibios swallowing him whole before it turned invisible allowing only Kronus to see it.
Floating upwards the Invisible ball shot through the sky flying through Tartarus before slipping pass the guards as if it was never there.
"What are you planning Brother?" Kronus turned around to see his brother Lapetus.
"Hera Is a jealous swine but she failed to realize her mistake this time that boy is no grandson of mine he'll be back and when he returns he'll be something even the Gods fear." Kronus aged look seemed to have vanished at that moment as he stood tall and his grey hair vanished being replaced by a brilliant black.
