Capítulo 15: From hunting magical beasts to becoming a healer

Doran is sitting on a balcony railing looking at nothing.

His mind is blank, memories from a few hours ago replaying over and over again.

When he went to his grandmother's solar to tell her about his new game, he didn't expect to hear such terrible news. As Harry Potter he lost many people, friends and family. But never before has he felt so helpless, his grandfather is not dead.

That his grandfather is not dead is the only good news, but even that is not certain. Arthur Uller has been unconscious for several days without showing signs of waking up. According to what he heard from Maester Wulfric, his grandfather has both legs, one arm, and several broken ribs. Worst of all is a head injury, broken bones heal but head injuries are unpredictable.

Arthur might never wake up or wake up with irreversible damage.

Doran knows very well how dangerous head injuries are, in his past life he became a Healer and traveled the world treating many patients. He saw hundreds of cases, cases where a slight blow to the head left people in a vegetative state and cases where serious injuries did not cause any side effects and the patient recovered completely.

Healing magic is great with many wounds but even it has its limitations when it comes to the brain.

"The head is the most fragile part," he murmurs absently, "And while magic can do much more than Muggle medicine it still has limitations."

He raises his hand and concentrates.

"Igni" he says over and over again.

After dozens of tries he barely makes a spark that disappears as soon as it appears.

"How could I use some of the more complicated spells if it can't even light a spark," he clenches his fists and his knuckles turn white.

A week later a ship moors at Sunspear, on board is the still unconscious Prince Arthur.

After winning the battle, the surviving guards carried the prince back to Wyl, where the maester treated his wounds. After showing no signs of awakening for several days, Dorna gave the order for him to be brought home, also sending several letters to the Citadel demanding that they send best healers.

By the time the prince arrived home, his daughter and her husband had already returned to Sunspear. Obella and Trystanne were halfway to Starfall when they received word of Arthur's condition, they ordered the ship's captain to turn around. They arrived a few days before the prince.

The atmosphere throughout the Dornish capital is dark and serious.

The children only know that Arthur was wounded in combat, they do not know the seriousness of the matter. Doran, who had overheard the conversation between his grandmother and the maester, hasn't been able to sleep a wink for the last few days.

His mind moves at a thousand an hour, reviewing all his medical knowledge. Thinking of something to help his grandfather, he ultimately discards most of the spells and potions.

There are a couple of spells that he has been practicing day and night, but without much results. What he has pinned all his hopes on is potions.

For the hundredth time he thanked Severus Snape for his last Will, Harry Potter had not expected to receive a letter from the Ministry, a week after the end of the war, which said that Snape made him his sole heir. Of course Snape had no family or friends that Harry knew of, but making him his heir blew his mind away. Among his belongings were, as expected, many potion materials. From books to ingredients as rare as Basilisk venom.

Harry's curiosity was piqued and he browsed through many of these materials.

Harry Potter began to read the potions books, many of them containing notes from the late professor. After reading three or four books he became very enthusiastic about this craft. Without Snape to bully him and without the pressure of a Dark Lord lurking around Harry was able to devote himself to his studies. He got a near perfect grade on his OWLs in potions and years later got a Maestry.

Snape's belongings and his studies took him far but the one who helped make him one of the best Potions Masters in Great Britain was his mentor, Healer Padme Rion. Padme Rion was a witch of English-Indian origin who specialized in Potions and Healing Magic.

Harry met her when he was nineteen years old and traveling through Algeria, he heard of sightings of a Nundu and was curious about one of the most dangerous magical beasts in the world.

In a town several inhabitants suddenly fell ill, victims of a plague caused by the beast. Many healers from various countries came to help, Padme included. Harry was more interested in the beast but seeing the seriousness of the disease, more than a hundred sick, he offered to help. As a healer he wasn't very good but he could help making potions, something he was good at.

He ended up becoming Padme's assistant and as they say, the rest is history. After controlling the plague she offered him an apprenticeship and he accepted. Together they traveled the world for three years. At the end of those three years Harry became a certified healer and a Potions Master.

One of the most important things he learned from Padme is to improvise, dealing with hundreds of patients and having to make potions for them often makes you run out of ingredients. Padme taught him that for a potion some ingredients can be substituted with others and achieve the same effects. For that you have to know very well the effects of each ingredient, which is why Harry almost ended up becoming a Master of Herbology: at the end of his life he had knowledge of one but never went to get the official certification.

In school he was taught that such ingredients are needed for a potion and using others would cause catastrophic results. Harry understood that Snape put this into their heads because the level of knowledge and skill required to be able to substitute one ingredient with another and not screw up is too high for eleven to eighteen year olds.

So Doran was able to create various potions by stealing ingredients from Wulfric's lab.

It took him a long time, many nights of hard work but it was worth it.

Doran has in his hands five healing potions: one to fight infections, two to help with the healing of broken bones, and the last two are used to heal head injuries.

"Please God, or whatever divine being is watching me, let these potions work. I don't want to lose my grandfather!" The young prince prays fervently.

At this point he does not doubt the existence of the gods, he is sure that Death is real so the existence of other gods makes all the sense in the world.

While everyone sleeps Doran goes out to his balcony with a bag on his back and climbs on the railing. He gazes at the three-foot gap that separates his balcony railing from the neighboring room's balcony railing, watches the drop of several dozen meters, high enough to kill him, and gulps.

"You've done harder things, it's just a jump"

He jumps down and lands safely on the other balcony, entering the door he made sure to leave open hours before. This room has no occupant, one day it will become Mors's room but currently it is empty.

He squats out the door, he knows that at this time the guards are changing shifts and there is only one servant sitting in front of his room.

He runs down the hall hiding behind armors and cabinets avoiding the guards. Arriving at his grandfather's room, he sees two guards opposite, he enters a neighboring room and scales the window, going down to an overhang.

"Bloody hell, I look like an assassin or a thief," he smiles briefly and continues to move slowly across the overhang until he reaches the balcony of his grandfather's room, "Thank the gods for my small frame, an adult wouldn't have been able to move across that overhang without fall off" he murmurs wiping sweat from his forehead.

He walks into his grandfather's room and sees him lying on his bed.

He approaches the bed and climbs on it, when he reaches his grandfather's side, he opens his mouth and puts the potions into it.

`Fortunately I know how to make an unconscious man drink a potion,` For a moment he remembers the scenes in the movies where the protagonist gave his unconscious lover a medicine through a kiss and made a face.

"Hollywood." he murmurs.

After making his unconscious grandfather drink the potions, Doran leaves.

Arriving in his room he has a layer of sweat covering him, he changes his clothes and gets into bed.

"Please let it work."

That night he could hardly sleep.

At dawn a servant enters his room and Doran wakes up immediately.

He looks at her intently.

"How is my grandfather doing?"
