Chapter 80: What a Pity!
Two days later, the Spirit Hall contingent concluded their final match at the Great Spirit Arena in Soto City. Their mission was complete, and preparations to return to Spirit City began in earnest.
Amid the bustling crowd at the arena, Bibi Dong's eyes swept the masses restlessly. She sighed, her voice carrying a mix of frustration and regret.
"That idiot Yu Xiaogang has been missing for days. Now I don't even have anyone to teach my idiots with. It's so dull."
Her tone shifted, a mischievous gleam in her eyes. "I was really looking forward to pinning him down and giving him a proper beating. Otherwise, when I get back to Spirit Hall, who knows when I'll meet another punching bag as suitable as him?"
Pausing dramatically, she added, "It's such a pity I didn't get to beat him up a few more times. Honestly, I feel like I can't eat or sleep well anymore."
"Uh..." Zhao Ling's lips twitched as he overheard her. He struggled to process why Bibi Dong seemed so fixated on pummeling Yu Xiaogang.
This situation was far from what he remembered from the original storyline. At this stage, Bibi Dong and Yu Xiaogang were supposed to be falling in love. Instead, Bibi Dong had developed an almost obsessive urge to torment him.
Now, deprived of her usual target, she appeared to be going through a withdrawal-like reaction.
Nearby, Yue Guan observed the young lady with growing confusion. Back in Spirit City, she had always been composed and gentle. Her penchant for casually roughing people up—especially Yu Xiaogang—seemed to have emerged only after arriving in Soto City.
In particular, her fixation on Yu Xiaogang had reached a baffling intensity.
During the past week, her absence of a target had left her frequently sighing, lamenting aloud, "Why hasn't Yu Xiaogang shown up to be beaten yet?"
Even Yue Guan couldn't help but wonder: was this her way of venting the Spirit Hall's historical dissatisfaction with the upper three sects, using Yu Xiaogang as a scapegoat?
Amused by the entire exchange, Ah Yin's delicate lips curved into a knowing smile. Her voice, clear and lilting like a silver bell, carried a playful undertone.
"Sister Dong'er, I doubt that idiot you enjoy beating up will show up in Soto City anytime soon. Do you remember the group that followed us nearly a week ago?
"That was Yu Xiaogang. He brought along a Soul Emperor and five or six nobodies, thinking he could cause trouble for my husband."
Ah Yin chuckled softly, a glint of mischief lighting her eyes. "They thought they could handle him, but my husband didn't even bother to use his martial soul. With just his physical strength, he smashed their heads into the ground. It was brutal—especially for those two brothers. They were barely recognizable by the end."
As Ah Yin recounted the event, she repeatedly referred to Zhao Ling as "our husband," making Bibi Dong visibly uncomfortable.
Bibi Dong's gaze flickered nervously toward Yue Guan, silently pleading with Ah Yin to stop talking nonsense. After all, her relationship with Zhao Ling hadn't reached such a point. They had embraced and kissed, yes, but they were far from being husband and wife.
Still, the faint blush that colored her cheeks betrayed her unspoken acknowledgment of the bond growing between them.
Despite this, she tried to rein in her emotions. With their return to Spirit City looming, unease gnawed at her. The memories of the diary's "secret room" incident lingered, and she dreaded a repeat of such events.
Ah Yin, however, remained unconcerned. To her, Zhao Ling belonged to both her and Bibi Dong, and it was only natural to claim him as their shared husband.
She had no interest in being coy about it. After all, wasn't Zhao Ling working toward uniting with Bibi Dong as well? If so, what was there to fear?
As Yue Guan listened, he found himself silently approving of Zhao Ling's treatment of Yu Xiaogang and his companions. Not siding with the upper three sects made Zhao Ling a potential ally for the Spirit Hall, if not a full-fledged member.
In fact, Yue Guan felt Ah Yin's approach to the situation was strategic. By acknowledging that Zhao Ling was "shared" between her and Bibi Dong, she was ensuring her position in his life, even if Bibi Dong officially became his partner.
After all, Ah Yin had already established a relationship with Zhao Ling. Should Bibi Dong and Zhao Ling formalize their bond, she couldn't simply cast Ah Yin aside without inviting controversy. It was a brilliant, if subtle, power play.
Unaware of Yue Guan's thoughts, Ah Yin smiled innocently. She had no schemes or hidden agendas. All she wanted was to share a life of joy and sorrow alongside Bibi Dong and Zhao Ling.
Bibi Dong scratched her head in frustration, her regret plain. "So it was Yu Xiaogang and his people tailing us last week? What a pity!
"If I'd known it was them, I wouldn't have left. I'd have stayed and personally given that fool a thorough beating!"
Her annoyance was evident as she shot a pointed look at Zhao Ling. "You should've told me. I would've loosened up his stiff muscles myself. Sure, you beat him senseless, but it's not nearly as satisfying as doing it with my own two hands."
