Gerados, The continent of the story

(ALL AUXILIARY CHAPTERS ARE PURELY FOR CURIOSITY OVER CERTAIN THINGS THAT HAVE NO REAL IMPACT ON THE MAIN STORY, BE IT MORE DETAILED EXPLANATIONS ABOUT THE WORLD OR EXPOSITION THAT WOULD HAVE NEVER BE GIVEN IN CHAPTERS BECAUSE IT DOESN'T ACTUALLY MATTER IN THE PLOT, READING THEM IS COMPLETELY OPTIONAL)

Gerados is the mainland where this story takes place.

With a large grassland area in the middle, dense forests on the west followed by a thick and ancient jungle further ahead of it. A large desert on the southwest and tropical rainforest on the southeast. The east is primarily filled with mountains, the north is a dangerous taiga and the northwest has a cold swampland, lastly further ahead of the tropical rainforest there are several smaller islands akin to our real-world Haiti and Cuba.

If watched from above the clouds, Gerados would look similar to the profile head of a great dane looking slightly upwards. Ears smaller and facing downwards.

The land itself is mostly flat in the centre, where the majority of all human settlements live, while the rest of the continent has varied altitudes.

Divided by their respective ecosystems the continent is divided into nine pieces. Their names in human tongue are Wiesenland (The Grasslands), Kaltwalt (The Taiga), Bergland (The Mountains), Regenland (The Tropical Rainforest), Festland (The Desert), Grunland (The Forest), Gronland (The Jungle) and Totesland (The Swampland). The small islands are undiscovered and thus, lack a name.

Gerados has a majority of humanoid population and while mention of other continents is yet to be found in old scrolls there is only one supposed place far beyond the northern coasts of the deep taiga. Although it has never been confirmed due to the common thunderstorms and hurricanes that happen in the deep sea, that and the many dangerous sea monsters that could swallow a ship in two bites. Meaning shipbuilding and general sea activities are limited only to smaller ships and trade or light transport near the coasts.

It has at least one hundred thousand years of history, but half of it is lost to the majority of its inhabitants, while another forty-five thousand of what's left is found in its tales, legends and myths. Only the last thousand years can be traced back to the written word and are considered true events that took place in Gerados.

Technology is mostly feudal, but this is often only on the human side, as other races that share the land have other ways to rule their people and guide their lives.

The land has rarely ever been united under one supreme king, an Emperor, with all accounts being treated as little more than fables and myths. The closest example of anyone achieving this would be the current times, Lowin The Ambitious. Who at the time the story begins has seized control of most human towns and petty kingdoms inhabiting the grasslands, while all others not directly under his control exist in a subservient attitude towards him.

With tender weather no matter the station, it never suffers heatwaves or severe drops in temperature, even places like the desert or taiga are relatively temperate year-round with the exception of the swampland.

From its inhabitants, named by the humans, the Gerechnners (Humans), Braunners (Elves) and Kleinners (Dwarfs) are the ones that make up the majority of the population. Humans dominating the grasslands, Elves living in the desert and Dwarfs deep inside the mountains.

There are however several other intelligent humanoids that share the land peacefully or under constant belligerence with other races. Such as trolls, the most numerous of them all that constantly raid human territory from the safety of the forests.

Humans in Gerados speak their own tongue, Geradosian is the language most humans spoke at the beginning of their creation here, but due to time and distance between settlements, there are now many variations of the mother tongue, like Geranian, a mixture of Geradosian and Kleinarian (Dwarf tongue) that many settlements neighboring the dwarf mountain range have used after centuries or even millennia of trade and rarely mixing.

Others are simply variations birthed from distancing and isolation, while most humans understand each other in Gerados, others have a problem, a serious problem communicating. This is a universal rule shared among all races in Gerados.

Geradosian itself would sound and be written similarly to Old High German.

A rich and somewhat untamed land, as most places outside of the grasslands and the desert are a mystery to many, from the human perspective of course.

As such this and all other historic accounts are from the Human side of things, different races know different things and all have their own culture, history, and saying in the history of Gerados.

REFLEXIONES DE LOS CREADORES
PenguinSam64 PenguinSam64

Here is a little bit of backstory and setting. To anyone curious enough or interested in these things. I personally adore making every little detail of the worlds I create, a habit from being a DM (Dungeon Master) in D&D games I used to take part in.

All extra bits will be something similar to this. A bit of insight into the world that this story takes place. Nothing really crucial for the plot or characters, just stuff I won't write in the main story to not make you feel as if you were reading a college analysis on foreign lands.

Anyways, expect these to drop after every or couple of chapters, like I said, I really have a probably unhealthy amount of history stored in my brain so it's also good for me to let it out on written form.
