The main lobby was empty, as were the next couple of buildings Wang Jingyuan searched. The entire ministry was too empty, too quiet. Where did everyone go? Were there no night patrols?

She turned the corner. Several dead soldiers lied haphazardly across the walkway. There were no night patrols, because they had been killed. But this meant that the killer had come this way and that she was on the right track. Wang Jingyuan stepped around the bodies and hurried on.

Suddenly, she heard a faint commotion somewhere within the ministry. There was shouting and the metallic collision of weapons. She rushed towards the sound, but it ended as abruptly as it began. A bad feeling rose in her chest.
