Walking along the streets of Orario Kai smelled something irresistible and like any normal person, he followed that smell regardless of any possible consequences, this lead him to a food stand selling a meat of some sort.
As Kai was going to get in line to have some of the delicious looking meat his all world collapsed as he realised he had no money.
'Fuck.' Kai thought walking away from the meat with a lone tear dripping from his eye.
After walking away from the godly smell Kai came to the realisation that he was lost. But found a store with weapons priced unreasonably high.
*ring*
A bell rang as Kai entered the shop "Just a minute!" Kai herd a shout from behind the counter.
"Alright"
~a few minutes later~
A woman came from behind the counter standing at the height 5'5 with read hair and a crimson eye the other being covered with a eye patch.
The woman looked at him, seeming to have barely noticed his appearance. "Is there something you need?" She asked with a clear fake smile, thinking he was a customer.
Kai looked around before focusing his attention on the woman. "Uhh… Do you think you can tell me how to get to the guild? I'm trying to register as an adventurer but I can't seem to find the way."
Upon telling her this her smile immediately dropped as she turned away. In the next second she lazily pointed to the right. "Just continue down the road" she said without turning back to face Kai"
Kai nodded, a grateful expression on his face as he turned as well, beginning to walk away before a large number caught his eye. "180,000 for a ring!" He exclaimed, gaining her attention again.
"Well when it's made by the Goddess of Blacksmithing you shouldn't expect cheap prices… Didn't you know that?" She said turning back toward him.
"I had no idea, nothing should be that expensive, no matter how good the blacksmith is…"
Kai's naiveness when it came to money almost made Hephaestus laugh. She looked at her clock and shrugged as she turned back to Kai. "Would you like a demonstration? For a fee of course… I'm thinking 3,000 valis for a five minute demonstration deal?"
'3,000 valis? What does that even mean… But a demonstration from a "Goddess"? Count me in' "Deal!" He shouted, a small smile managing to creep itself onto his face, something he wasn't used to.
The Goddess had a little smile come on to her face seeing the young boy smile over her giving him a demonstration of her craft. "Follow me." She said to Kai as she started walking back to where she was before he entered the store.
Kai did as he was told with his eyes widening and tail moving left to right at high speeds as he looked around her forge seeing the forge all ready lit.
The Woman looked at Kai as his eyes seemed to shine looking around the room with a smile she was sure he didn't notice was there. "Watch closely." The woman said to Kai snapping him out of his thoughts.
Kai's smile widened even more as the woman picked up a metal ingot of some type and used metal tongs to pick up the metal and start heating it till it was a bright orange she then moved it over to her anvil and grabbed a hammer.
*woosh* *clank!*
*woosh* *clank*
Kai watched in amazement as she shaped the molten metal into the shape of a knife with her hammer. The woman then once again picked the metal up with the tong's and put it in water to cool it off.
*sizzle*
Once the metal was done cooling she brought it to a grind stone and started sharpening the metal that now took the form of a sharp knife. The women inspected the newly made knife from every possible way and smiled "Not bad for the time limit of 5 minutes."
Kai looked at the women and the knife with a big smile on his face "Whoa." Kai said feeling a new type of feeling he hasn't felt in a long time.
The woman smiled at the boy then remembered he has to pay her. "Okay then kid time to pay up for the demonstration 3,000 valis."
"Uhh What's valis?" Kai asked as he tilted his head, his heart beat fastened. He already had an idea due to the number but he waited for her confirmation
"You don't know valis? Obviously it's currency… Money, you use it to pay for stuff, now cough up the money kid" Hephaestus answered as her eyes narrowed, the earlier smile gone replaced with the attitude of a true shop owner that felt they were about to get scammed.
Kai was gone in a flash, running past pedestrians as he fled the street. Falling to the ground Kai looked up to see what he ran into, a tall werewolf with grey hair and amber eyes and a sleek tail with a blue tattoo on the left side of his face glared at him then picked him up by his collar. "Watch where your going punk."
Kai struggled to get out of his grip as the grey haired werewolf's glare intensified. "Well aren't you going to apologise."
Kai looked the older boy in the eyes as a small smile appeared on his face. "How about no?"
This only caused the mans grip on Kai to strengthen as well as his glare. "You what pipsqueak?"
Kai once again looked the man in the eyes with a giant smile on his face and said. "Haha, I just can't stop smiling… I said no!" Kai said as The boy raised his arm to punch him.
'Hahaha I know it's my fault for bumping into him but I can't help my self.' Kai thought as he grabbed the man's hand, ready to break out of his grip.
"Bete what are you doing!?" A voice interrupted.
"Finn…this punk bumped into me and is getting rude so I'm about to show him his place." The older boy answers back to the voice.
The red haired women who Kai was running from finally caught up with him and pointed at Kai and Bete. "Drop the kid, he owes me money."
Kai looked at the women and whispered in a low voice. "Shit." Bete looked at Kai then the women and started laughing "hahahaha I'll let you off the hook this time punk…but the next…you better watch it." After saying that Bete dropped let go of Kai's collar making him drop to the floor with him surprisingly landing gracefully on his feet.
Kai stood there awkwardly between the red haired woman and the group of people, not sure what to say.
"Hephaestus! Wow I never thought I'd see you out of your forge!… What's this about owing money? Did this kid steal from the goddess of the forge! Wow!" Another red haired woman said as she looked between Hephaestus, the earlier woman, and Kai, who was sitting there confused.
'Damn they know each other? Would this be a good time to use my power?'
"Ah Loki… He agreed to pay for a demonstration and then ran when I told him the price, it seems he has no money to offer though…"
Loki seemed to think for a second before snapping her fingers. "Just make him work it off, and make it hard work too, Thieves should never run away, unless they won't get caught, then run all you want haha!"
Hephaestus seemed hesitant at the idea. The only ways she could think too work off this debt was by helping around the forge, and she didn't want any random person to do that.
Ultimately the value that she was owed was too great to simply let him off.
"Fine… Boy, you will come back with me and clean up my forge, you'll do this everyday until I feel you've paid off your debt. This is more than you deserve… You will also help attract customers, now let's go."
With this the shocked kai and the annoyed Hephaestus were going back to the forge together, Kai wasn't sure when he agreed to it, he was simply following her…
'I guess this isn't the worst thing ever…' He ultimately decided later in the night as he slept on the bedroll Hephaestus had provided for him.
"I'll pay this shit off as fast as possible, then I'll get started on this tournament crap… Night guys," Kai paused as he finished his words, realizing his friends weren't with him at the moment.
With this thought settling in his mind he realized for the first time since entering this world how alone he felt…
