As the hatch to the surface slid open, Aubrey's screen changed to give him a 180 degree view of his area, sent to him through the eyes of the Eva.
There was nearly nothing now around now in this vast city.
Save for a few buildings covered with glass windows, that probably weren't deemed worthy enough to be protected.
As he looked along the screen with heightened senses and a feeling of fear, Momose's voice interrupted his thoughts.
"You need to move!"
Shinji, Momose, and the rest of Nerv's command team in the Eva hangar looked up in horror as a red sign flashed across the walls.
"A.T. FIELD ENEGY BURST INCOMING"
Distracted by her talking, he eyed a small phone icon to the very left of his display.
"Huh?"
As he said this, Aubrey felt as if, he himself got thrown off his feet.
For inside the cockpit, the screen turned white with a brief bright flash, before coming back on.
While he was still confused on how movement worked and his panicking worsened, Momose continued:
"Move, dumbass, move!"
Shaking the controls, Aubrey's hands trembled.
"I-I don't know how though! Nothing is responding!"
Noises from the outside were actively transmitted in.
A strange howling, like wind cutting over jagged cliffs had been given the voice of a man.
"It's too easy, just imagine yourself moving, the Eva synchronizes with you!"
Dumbfounded, Aubrey still had the mech on its back, while he heard steps grow closer.
In the display, he could see the damage that had been done by the blast he received earlier.
Buildings that used to stand were reduced to nearly nothing.
The black asphalt and concrete of the streets were missing.
He could hear the sounds of massive steps grow closer.
Trying to visualize himself standing up, Nerv watched his synchronization rates with 04 quickly rise from 10, to 30.
Shinji's father quietly watched from behind his glass window, with a grim and tired face.
The arms and legs of 04 began to twitch and contract with Aubrey's neural connection to it.
