Half a year had passed since the attack on Konoha happened, and there was only a few incidents that could be considered major, such as;
The small family moved into the abandoned Senju compound.
Kurenai and Hanra talked more, and Hanra explained his past etc. and how he got there, as well as why he picked her.
Naruto started uttering comprehensible words, such as "Ma" and "Da".
A major event for the small family was when Naruto was three months old.
January 23rd was what Kurenai would by default call one of the best of her life. It started as a completely normal morning, she woke up to Naruto talking to himself and squealing every now and then out of happiness, naturally she couldn't understand what he was saying, as it was mostly incomprehensible baby talk, she could see that he had a new diaper on already, meaning Hanra had changed him before she woke up, something she was happy and grateful for, she was after all tired. Infants demand a lot from you, more than you initially think. Though she had to admit, Hanra didn't shy from the so called 'dirty work' such as changing Naruto, something she knew most men would turn sour at, though he did it with a smile on his face, except the one time he was peed on, something they could both laugh at now. Living together for three months had made them more than friends, but not yet at the level of lovers, something she often spent time musing about. As usual, after changing into what she would call her 'mother clothes' and picking up Naruto, she walked into the kitchen where Hanra was finishing breakfast.
The morning went as every morning went, and it soon became noon. Sitting on the couch with Naruto on her lap and playing with him as she would often do, Hanra came back and started playing along with them, and after a while being bounced about on Hanras lap, their son stretched his arms towards Kurenai and said "Mommy!", causing them both to stiffen up. Seeing nothing happening, the little guy made an unhappy face and again uttered "Mommy!", this time getting a reaction. She shot up from her place on the couch, holding Naruto in her arms, tears streaming down her face muttering "My son called me mommy" over and over again like a broken record. Hanra looked on with a smile, and simply stood to embrace them both, wiping the tears from one side of her face, prompting Naruto to do the same on the other side. The boy never did like it when his mother was sad, a true mommy's boy indeed.
Naturally, the rest of the day was spent with an extremely proud mother parading her son around the other clan compounds, speaking about how proud she was of HER (she did not mention Hanra at all, even though he was forced to tag along) son speaking at just three months old! It did cause quite a stir, indeed. Normally, children in the Elemental Nations started speaking a few words at the age of five months due to the Chakra and enhanced bodies.
The young family didn't always just sit around and squander their time, no. Both Hanra and Kurenai would train, often with each other in the way that one looked over Naruto while the other did their workout. Hanra would oversee Kurenais training, and train her at the same time, making her achieve great leaps in her strength, both physically, but also anything chakra related. If she started at mid chuunin level, she would now after six months be at around mid Jounin level.
Hanra at his arrival, could strength wise play around with Hatake Kakashi, one of the strongest Jounin in the village, after six months of training he could now fight Senju Hashirama and Uchiha Madara at the same time, but would eventually lose, and would lose in ten minutes should everyone go all out from the very start.
Naruto would usually pay attention to the training, not that he understood what was going on, but he found it good entertainment and would often clap and encourage them in their training. And it was during one of these training sessions where he was watching Hanra train, and Kurenai was looking after him, just before he turned six months old, that he did another thing that Kurenai would write in her "Best Things in Life"
Out in the training field next to their house, Hanra could be seen doing handstands on one finger, balancing on a kunai stuck in the ground, shirtless with visible gravity and resistance seals on his torso. A shout broke him out of his work "HANRA!", it was Kurenai and it was a shout of excitement, he looked over and saw Naruto stand up on his own while looking at Kurenai, he held his arms out to her and she held out her arms for him. Hanra saw Naruto stumble a step forward, barely keeping his balance. Stabilizing before taking another step towards Kurenai. Seeing this, Kurenai started shedding tears of joy, Naruto though didn't know that it was tears of joy, thought she was sad and started waddling to her faster. It was only eight steps to her, and when he got there he was swept up in her arms, the only thing being said was from Naruto "Mommy no sad" in a sad tone, on the verge of tears himself. He wiped her tears away while Kurenai talked about how happy and proud she was of her son and she felt two arms wrap around her and Naruto from behind her "Our son is really a mommys boy, eh?" came from Hanra as both the truth and a joke, though it apparantly flew right over her head as she exclaimed back "Of course! He got my genes after all!" and if you looked at her face, you would see the biggest smile threatening to split her face in half while she relaxed into Hanras chest. To her at this moment, all was right in the world. Of course, this was once again followed up with 'The Grand Tour' where a lot of bragging happened, to which Hanra was forced to follow along.. once again.. to listen to Kurenai talk about how HER son had taken his first steps, and took even more steps because she started tearing up out of happiness.
At one point Hanra had noticed a pattern forming, that Naruto never cried, only started sniffling or tearing up when Kurenai was visibly sad. Further cementing his claim of his son being a mommys boy, not that he minded, he was just happy Naruto seemed to be happy, smiled and progressed at a proper pace, even being ahead of his peers. He was indeed a little genius.
The months quickly trickled by, when Naruto was eight months, Kurenai and Hanra became an official couple. Living together next to each other, and raising a son together, brought them closer than normal and it was pretty much a given. This was also the age where Naruto began to put together small and short sentences, like "Kaa-chan I'm hungry" or "Tou-chan need change", of course there were also others, but they were prime examples of the work duty assigned in the house. Some of the male friends of the family joked to Hanra that he got the "shitty" job, causing chuckles all around at Hanras expense, though he could be seen in the corner on all four with a rain cloud over him. However, he was quickly standing next to them with a grin on his face, his response was "At least I get some", which reversed the roles.
Nine months and Naruto started reading childrens books, the ones with many colors and things. Reading was using the word loosely, he was looking at the pictures.
At one year and three months, Naruto began his potty training, and doing exceedingly well.
Hanra started Narutos training when he turned two, though the training involved mostly running correctly, flexibility training and preparing his body for proper training, in short making his body an iron-clad, top tier foundation for the future. If you ranked it according to the ninja ranks, his body foundation would be ranked at SSS+, it was truly a clean slate, ready to be painted only for the greatest of the great. It was also at this age Naruto started reading the easier books, and since he was a curious child by nature, he asked about anything that he did not understand, this was his "What's that?" phase. It did not help that he was energetic beyond belief, so he was all over the place, sometimes even seen in the backyard, running around while reading a scroll, or like most other children, swinging the biggest stick he could carry around as if he was fighting the greatest foe of his life.
At age three, Naruto had been introduced to the wonders that was Shogi, as well as could now hold decent conversations with the other clan heirs, this was of course not because of his own doing, no, before this he was talking with the adults, it was just the other children that could keep a conversation, however Naruto quickly found the conversations boring, and agreed wholeheartedly with the Nara heir, Nara Shikamaru who classified it as "troublesome", Shikamarus words, not his own, he assured his parents. The other parents noticed that they both seemed a bit "off" compared to the other children, in that they only really conversed with each other or watched the clouds, but when they did converse with each other, they talked about training, Shogi or their parents. The parent group wanted to do IQ tests already, Shikamaru being ordered by his mother to do it to the best of his abilities, scoring a scary 184, and Naruto topping that at 202. [AN: Notice that this is at age 3-4, they will both have an increment of 20-30 roughly, as Shikamarus was 212 by the Chuunin exams if I remember correctly. The reason I could push Naruto up to this, is the simple fact that he has been properly stimulated mentally, creating the mental links that were obviously not there in canon, but could and should have been! Though I may have supercharged it to my own satisfaction...]
When he was four, Naruto was happy beyond belief, his Kaa-chan and Tou-chan got married, and he looked AWESOME in the pictures, if he did say so himself, which he did. He was also told that he would have a younger brother or sister, how cool was THAT?! Well, according to him, not as much as his Kaa-chan thought. Another 'Grand Tour' joined the collection, there had been too many to count, but at this point in time, it was not only Hanra being dragged along, he too was forced along now. In his own words "Kaa-chan, can't I stay home and train or read instead?" before he heard the stern "No!" from the corridor leading to the front entrance.
Hanra had already taught Naruto how to write, though the way he went about it was different than most of the other parents. You see, to prepare Naruto for Fuuinjutsu, if he so decided to branch into that option which he most likely would considering the fact he at age five ran around with a few books on sealing, he had taught him to write with a brush instead of a pen, and the progress had Naruto phrasing it to his Kaa-chan as "Super easy, but cool!" as Kurenai was coming to term, she made a decent taraget for Naruto to talk to, and he took full advantage of that. He spoke so much that Kurenai told him that "Poke me if you have something important to say", his response was of course an expected "Okay!" followed by another flood of words. She wasn't trying to be mean, but when a child has been talking about random things for half an hour straight, you start to tune them out, so she just made sure that if he actually needed something, she could help.
When his sister was born, he was told that he had more than one dad and mother, he had two of each! He was told that his first parents died the day he was born, and he was immediately adopted and with a jutsu, his new dad made sure he had the blood of all of his parents! His parents made sure to tell him all they knew of his other parents, and that they loved him so much that they gave their lives to make sure he lived. They also asked him if he was alright with them taking some blood samples from his other parents, so that his little sister also were their child, and had two mothers and two fathers, just like he did. He said yes, because if his other parents loved him so much, they would probably love having a daughter too, right?!
When it came to naming the newborn girl, both of his parents had an idea of what they wanted to name her, but Naruto was adamant in his search for the perfect name for his little sister. He had racked his brain and she was named when he said the perfect name, at least it was for him, however the way he delivered it was probably going to need some work. "Ena. Her name is YUNO Ena" was what he said to his parents in a stern tone that made it adorable more than anything, though the point came across as his father muttered "Gift from Kami, huh? I guess you're right about that, son" he finished with a proud smile, his mother agreed "A perfect name for my little girl", though apparantly something struck his father with what she said as he immediately replied "Your little girl? Nonono, Ena-chan is going to be daddys girl. You already have a mommys boy in Naruto here", everyone tensed a bit, but started laughing after a few seconds.
Hanras statement was almost right. Almost. As it turned out, she became a brother's girl. Even her first word was "Nii". That was a dark day for Hanra indeed.
And finally the day for Academy Entrance rolled around. Naruto was almost eight years old, he would be in just two months, so he enrolled with the rest of the clan heirs, as most of them were eight years old already. His father told him he had some important to talk with him about in the evening, together with his mother. They assured him that he was in no trouble, and that it was just an important conversation like many others they already had. His parents walked him to the academy, and made sure he had his bento, all the parent stuff he had named it, he was happy that his parents showed that they loved him so much, though. He kissed his mothers cheek, not worrying about all the other kids looking, and told his dad to pick him up in a "super cool and awesome way", not the exact words he said, but they were part of it.
I have mostly 'skimmed' the first 8 years of Narutos life, to arrive at this point. One of the things I wrote about his interactions with Kurenai made me chuckle, as it was inspired by myself as a child, namely the talk like the floodgates were open.
I hope you enjoyed the chapter, I might start working on Chapter 4 today.
