Capítulo 4: Chapter 4: First Test (1)
Just as the cadets were about to start a commotion again, the Left Guardian immediately continued. "But... most of you won't even make it to the 5th floor, even if you were resurrected! So don't even get your hopes up!"
...
'Sigh...' The Right Guardian at his side sighed, hearing his words, before taking a sip from his bottle of booze. 'He's the best at boosting morale and dropping it all at once... sigh... I don't like anything you do, Lee Hwamyung...'
"And the last and third benefit is..." The Left Guardian kept going on. "That you guys can get a rank that you never ever had before!"
This time his words caused a commotion not only amongst the common cadets but even amongst the young masters. 'So that's why even us heirs don't have any rank or privilege here!'
'Everything changes once you enter the Demonic Academy even for us... from now on, only the strong will survive!'
"Quiet!" The Left Guardian silenced the commotion again for the umpteenth time. "Sigh... every time you pass through a stage, you'll advance in ranks..."
"Low-Ranked Warrior for the 1st Test, Middle-Ranked Warrior for the 2nd Test, Elite Warrior for the 3rd Test, Squad Leader for the 4th Test, and Clan Leader for the 5th Test..."
"As for the 6th Test, I don't think any of you will ever be able to reach it..."
"At the Demonic Academy, if you can get through the upper levels, your rank will be acknowledged. You may be starting with the same Cadet rank now, but this will soon change... because..."
"The first test is about to start!"
"What?!" His words caused all of the cadets to explode in utter shock.
"R-Right now? Did I hear wrong?"
"...No way!"
"How is this fair?!"
"How can we have the first test already?!"
"Aren't we supposed to learn something first at least?!"
"What do we do if we get expelled-"
"Be quiet!! If you keep talking, I'll expell each and every one of you in this exact instant." The Left Guardian let go of all of his anger that he was holding inside of him, derived by them constantly chit-chatting, commenting, and complaining about everything he said, and shouted to shut those 'impertint and useless scrubs' as he would have called them. Yeah... Lee Hyun's father was quite the petty and fussy person. "I swear that if I hear even a single one of you emit even the slightest of sounds, I'll expel all of you! Nobody excluded!"
"..." Nobody dared to even utter a single word now... well, who would want to be expelled in the first day after all? And like this? Nobody.
"Sigh... this is much better... 5th Elder... you can come up now!" The Left said, now with a satisfied smile on his face, and at his words, a black-haired woman dressed in a pink robe and carrying a mandolin made her way up the stairs, soon reaching the red-haired Left Guardian. "She is the Clan Leader of the Sound Clan and the 5th Elder of the Heavenly Demonic Divine Cult, Hang So Yu!"
"The test is very easy, you'll just need to endure her Musical Energy Wave for a minute. She will obviously hold back, because if she were actually to play her music, you insignificant ants won't stand even a single chance!"
"Haha..." the 5th Elder instantly chuckled, showing a gentle and caring expression. "Don't worry, guys... he's just exaggerating a bit... you'll only need a little bit of internal energy (Internal Qi) to pass the test!"
"Those who will be able to endure her Musical Energy Wave for a minute without fainting..." The Left Guardian then began, trailing off to give to his words some kind of suspense, and everyone instantly went on to cover their ears. "Will pass the First Test! Start!"
And immediately, the 5th Elder started playing the mandolin, her fingers plucking the instrument's chords at blurring speed. A violet wave of energy spread across all of the Demonic Academy, all of the cadets now hearing music so loud that even if they had covered their ears, it still reached their eardrums.
Only the six young master in the first row and a red-haired guy besides them seemed to be somewhat fine.
"It's a fortune that I honed so much the Sound Arts in my last life... this test feels quite easy... it's unfortunate that my Qi is still so weak or I wouldn't even feel this..." Lee Hyun thought before turning his head towards a certain guy in the last row. "That guy, on the other hand... he's not even breaking a sweat! I didn't notice him in my last life because I was too focused enduring the Musical Energy Wave... how is he so strong already? The six ladies of the Six Clans had made him promise that he would never learn martial arts until he entered the Demonic Academy... so how is he this strong? This guy really is a fucking monst-"
[Ding!] [A Challenge has been triggered!]
"A challenge?" Lee Hyun was a bit startled by being so suddenly interrupted by that strange virtual red window. "And what's that?"
[Challenge!]
[Secure the first place in the First Test of the Demonic Academy!]
[Success Rewards: Passive skill, Sound Arts!]
[Penalty in case of failure: nothing (Challenges cannot give you penalties)]
"So this thing will give me a reward if I get the first place, huh?" Lee Hyun continued to ponder as he continued to utilize his Sound Arts to contrast the 5th Elder's Musical Energy Wave. "But what's the use of giving me the Sound Arts if I already know them? Well, I'll just try to get to the first place and then see what happens. I should be able to secure it. Even if my opponents are the young masters and Cheon Woon Yoo, the Sound Arts I mastered are supposed to even help one block outside's loud noises other than making my Sound Qi stronger, so with my mastery of it currently surpassing even Cheon Wonryou's, I am pretty sure I should be able to secure myself the first pl-"
But, suddenly, the Musical Energy Wave got stronger and stronger, interrupting Lee Hyun's thoughts. The most difficult part of the First Test had come! Now, even the young masters were struggling to endure her Sound Qi!
