After Tony Stark went missing, the Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement, and Logistics Division (S.H.I.E.L.D.) had also been searching for him. Unfortunately, they had yet to uncover any clues.
That's why, upon overhearing Eren claim he could locate Tony, Coulson couldn't resist barging into the house.
As Eren and Coulson exchanged words, Pepper began to waver.
Could Eren truly possess some ability she didn't know about that could help locate Tony Stark?
If it were just Eren saying so, Pepper might dismiss it as a kind gesture to comfort her. But with a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent also affirming it, she couldn't help but start to believe there might be some truth to it.
After a moment of hesitation, her worry for Tony overpowered her doubts. Pepper asked, "Eren, can you really find Tony?"
Eren nodded. "I have a mystical item that can locate Tony Stark. But it's a rare and valuable consumable…"
Before he could finish, Coulson interjected, "If you truly have something that can help us locate Tony Stark, S.H.I.E.L.D. will gladly compensate you generously, just as we did before."
Eren shot Coulson a sidelong glance. "That item is a consumable, and its value far exceeds $100,000."
"How about $200,000?" Coulson ventured cautiously.
Eren rolled his eyes, ignoring him entirely.
Pepper, on the other hand, said, "If it's about money, I do have some savings—"
Eren cut her off. "Why would I take your money, Aunt Pepper? You've helped me so many times; can't I do this one thing for you? Besides, if Tony is really being held by terrorists, finding him is as good as saving his life. He's a billionaire—do you think he wouldn't reward me?"
"Of course not!" Pepper immediately replied with a smile.
Tony Stark wasn't one to owe people favors. If Eren were to save him, Tony's prideful nature wouldn't allow him to skimp on repaying the debt.
Hearing this, Eren shrugged. "Exactly."
"However, while the item can locate Tony Stark, that's all it can do. If he's really been kidnapped, someone still needs to rescue him. Aunt Pepper, isn't Tony well-connected with the military? You could ask them to—"
Before Eren could finish, Coulson cut him off.
If the credit for rescuing Tony Stark were handed to the military, Coulson knew his one-eyed boss would glare him to death.
"Ahem... no need for that," Coulson said quickly. "If you can pinpoint Tony Stark's location, S.H.I.E.L.D. will dispatch its most elite agents to rescue him immediately."
"Trust me, when it comes to rescue missions, we agents are far more skilled than the military. This is what we're trained for."
Coulson's confident demeanor was hard to argue with, and even Pepper nodded in agreement.
Seeing this, Eren shrugged. "Alright, you can handle the rescue. But in that case, Coulson, you owe me another favor."
"Another favor? Why?" Coulson asked, visibly baffled.
Eren smirked. "Don't play dumb. Rescuing Tony Stark would be a massive achievement for both the military and S.H.I.E.L.D. Letting you claim all the credit—don't you think that earns me a favor?"
"Who knows, Coulson? This might even get you a promotion and a raise!"
Coulson sighed in defeat, raising his hands as if surrendering. "Fine, fine. If we rescue Tony Stark, I owe you another favor."
With that assurance, Eren nodded and said, "Wait here." He ran upstairs to retrieve a glass jar containing a pink origami crane he had used once before.
About ten minutes later, Eren returned to the living room, holding the jar with the pink crane fluttering inside.
As soon as he walked in, both Coulson and Pepper's eyes were drawn to the strange object in his hands.
Coulson immediately noticed the pink crane flapping its wings and bumping against the jar's glass walls.
"Is that the item you mentioned?" Pepper asked skeptically.
"No," Eren replied, shaking his head. "The pink crane inside the jar is the item. I just performed a divination to locate Tony Stark and imprinted the information on this crane. It will now lead you to him."
"Don't worry. Unless someone breaks the enchantment I placed on it, the crane won't stop flying until it finds Tony Stark."
"So we just follow the direction it points to find him?" Coulson asked, interjecting.
Eren glanced at him. "Exactly. But you'd better wait until you're in Afghanistan before letting the crane guide you."
"Afghanistan? Tony Stark is still in Afghanistan?" Coulson's eyes lit up, and he immediately followed up.
"According to my divination, yes. The crane will take you to his exact location."
"Alright, I'll report to my director and arrange for our best agents to head out and rescue Tony Stark."
