The building the bus pulled up to was rather impressive. From the outside, it could have been an indoor football stadium, if that stadium had taken some steroids and was built for Godzilla.
Once inside, the building became even more impressive. Inside was a variety of disaster-scapes. There was a whirlpool on one side, with a burning city further behind. On the other side were more crumbly cities, in the state of earthquakes and landslides, and a mountain behind there.
"Is this USJ or something?" Aoyama asked. It was like Universal Studios Japan, but for going around being a hero! He was excited to be fabulous.
"This is a practical training area I created to simulate all kinds of accidents and disasters," came an electronic voice to the side. A man in gear that looked like a space suit stepped out from the right. "And its name is the Unforeseen Simulation Joint!"
It really was USJ. Kai wondered how long he worked on finding something else to fit the acronym. Good joke, though.
"It's Space Hero No. 13!" Deku shouted excitedly. "He's the gentlemanly hero who does phenomenal work helping with disaster relief!"
Kai knew of him. He always had respect for heroes whose specialty was either out of the limelight like Aizawa, or was rescue-centric, like Ayako's parents. Or No. 13 here.
"Hey, 13, where's All Might? He should've been here by now." Aizawa asked the astronaut.
"From what I was told," 13 said, holding up three fingers, "it looks as though he'd been out hero-ing while commuting up until his time was up. Now he's resting in the nap room."
The class mostly wasn't paying attention. Those who listened just admired All Might's work ethic, as it were.
"That guy's the height of irrational." Aizawa was not impressed.
"Before we begin, just one thing. Or two… or three…" 13 said, turning to the class.
"I'm certain you're already quite aware, but my Quirk is called 'Black Hole.' No matter what material may get sucked into its vortex, I'm afraid it will turn into dust."
"Now that's a Quirk that's perfect for removing wreckage and saving people injured by disasters!" Deku said excitedly.
"Yes…" 13 trailed off awkwardly. "However, it is also a power that could easily be used to kill people. And in that way, it's no different from the Quirks of everyone here. Naturally, in this society of superhumans, Quirks are strictly regulated, and the requirements for their lawful use enforced. We can tell at a glance that it's just how this world has to be.
"That being said, please don't forget that each of you possesses a Quirk that can go awry. One wrong step is all it takes to cause an accident.
"During Aizawa-sensei's test, you learned of your respective powers' true potential. And during All Might's Battle Trial, I think you took away a true sense of the danger of brandishing those powers against others."
Everyone looked at Kai, who just shrugged. He deserved it.
"This lesson will serve as a fresh start! Let's get to studying about how to wield our Quirks for the sake of human life! Your Quirks do not exist to hurt others!"
Everyone looked at Bakugo. At least, that's what Kai would like to believe; he wasn't among them to see everyone's faces.
"Please leave this exercise having fully understood that your Quirks exist to help people!"
Now Kai did turn to Bakugo with a meaningful look.
"That is all! You have my gratitude for listening so intently and patiently!" 13 finished to applause with a bow. 13 was a true hero.
"All right, first things first…" Aizawa trailed off and turned around, hearing a deep rush of wind behind him. At the same time, a surge went through the lights, and they went dark. Luckily, the domed ceiling was translucent, so it wasn't dark.
Kai rushed up to Aizawa's side as he saw his face. Whatever was happening, it wasn't according to plan.
From Aizawa's side, he could see a swirling black mist down by the fountain in the center of USJ. Suddenly is surged upward, then back down into a wall, from which a group of strange people stepped through. Some kind of port. If this wasn't part of the lesson plan, they could only be villains.
Besides, one of them had hands all over his body. That wasn't a good aesthetic to look heroic. Then Kai remembered his hood was designed to make his head look two dimensional and unsettling and realized he couldn't quite argue against it.
"Huddle together and don't move!" Aizawa shouted. "13! Protect the students!"
"Is this like the training pattern at the entrance exam?" Kirishima asked, looking down at the growing crowd below.
"Heck no!" Kai shouted back. "Those are real villains! Aizawa-sensei, do you want them all alive?"
"Of course, as long as you can manage it!" Aizawa replied. He had faith in Kai's combat skills, but if he really had trouble, and there was no other way to protect everyone, then he couldn't say to not do what had to be done.
"Eraserhead and No. 13… According to the teacher's curriculum we procured, All Might was supposed to be here, and yet…" a deep voice came from a pair of bright yellow eyes glowing in the middle of the mist, which condensed into a more human shape.
"Where is he? We went through all this trouble and rustled up so many of us to bring along… you cant tell me All Might, the Symbol of Peace, isn't here…" The pale man with white hair and hands all over his body scratched his face and wondered out loud. Clearly, these guys weren't worried about being overheard.
"I wonder if he'll show up if we kill the kids?" he said, loud enough to be clearly heard by everyone.
"Excuse me!" Kai shouted down. "Identify yourself and your goal!"
"Who the hell are you, kid! We want All Might!" The pale man called back.
"And who are you, for me to care? Identify yourself!" Kai shouted. This was really important. If this was related to him, then things were immeasurably horrible. He hadn't exactly been hiding his presence here, but he hadn't been parading through the streets screaming at the top of his lungs that the Clan's lost scion was here, either.
"We just want to kill All Might, bug boy!"
"Okay, thanks, Handy Manny!" Kai didn't mind being called bug boy, as he'd heard it before. He sighed in relief, since this was just a Code Red, not Black.
Everyone's lives were just in regular danger from garden variety high-level terrorists, not Kai's estranged family.
"Um, this might be awkward, but I believe we have a scheduling conflict! Could you come back three weeks from Monday? Now's not a good day to kill All Might."
It really wasn't. If they really did it today, then the psychological damage his classmates would take would be too much.
There was much laughter from below. A rough voice called out.
"You're a funny kid! Hey, we'll try to kill you last, if All Might never comes, eh?"
"And I'll try to kill you last too! Could you raise your hand, so I know who you are?"
Kai tapped his foot on the floor and summoned a zergling. It was close to time for crap to hit the fan. It had to sometime. He didn't like the look of three people down there: Handy Manny, the black mist porter, and a weird guy with his brain exposed. That couldn't be healthy, but they brought him along to take on the most powerful man on the planet.
While Aizawa and 13 discussed the situation and their battle plans, which mostly revolved around calling for reinforcements while Aizawa bought time, Kai considered his own. He could contact the outside easily- the changelings in town were out of any interference, and a lot of them had their own cell phones. However, Kai thought that he might as well use these villains.
This crisis was an opportunity. He could let them get their feet wet in a relatively calm fight for their lives. If they had to fight their way through this, then they would come through stronger and enlightened for it. Ideally, they would also realize that they needed the training Kai could offer them.
Metals are forged and purified in fire. Heroes are much the same.
The villains now presented a bright flame.
Kai pulled his hood up and sealed the veil. It was time to work.
Yes, Kai could have called in backup any time. But why do that when everyone still needs a shot of reality? It should be in the blind spot for nobody to notice, right?
After all, who thinks perfectly clearly in a crisis? Just look at the anti-mask nutjobs.
Wear your mask, it won't hurt you. It will also prevent the government lipreaders from knowing everything you say. As if your phones didn't tell them everything anyways.
Everyone knows that it's the mosquitoes you have to watch out for. They collect DNA samples, too.
That's enough joking for now.
Lastly, until Kai has an opportunity to get real names, we will be using the names he uses. So, Shigaraki is Handy Manny for a while.
See you later! Hopefully, Saturday.
