As the night wore on, Cherry's cheeks grew rosier with each drink, her laughter lighter and looser, like a giddy schoolgirl. Jack watched as her eyelids began to droop, and her speech turned slower, her usual elegance giving way to a somewhat sloppy smile.
"Sister Cherry," Jack called softly, leaning in. "Are you…drunk?"
She tilted her head at him, blinking as if he'd just said the funniest thing in the world. "Drunk? Me?" she giggled, poking him in the chest. "Little brother, I could drink a whole bottle of…of…what was it?" She frowned, struggling to recall, then giggled again. "Anyway! I'm fine. Totally…fiiine."
Jack sighed, exasperated but amused. "Right. Let's get you home then. Where do you live?"
She blinked slowly, giving him a smile that was part confusion, part amusement. "Where do I live?" she repeated, as if it were a riddle. She stared off into space, looking genuinely stumped.
