Jack lay on the bed, staring at the ceiling, his chest rising and falling with every deep breath. Cherry lay beside him, her silvery-white hair spread across the pillow like a halo. Her bare shoulder brushed against his arm as she propped herself up, her sharp, teasing gaze fixed on him.
"You're awfully quiet, Jack," she said, her voice soft but laced with amusement. "Regretting it already?"
Jack swallowed hard, his mind a whirlwind of guilt and confusion. He turned his head to look at her, and the way she smiled, confident and carefree, made his heart ache even more. "Cherry, I…" He sighed, running a hand through his hair. "I don't know why I did this. I have a girlfriend, and now…I feel like I've betrayed her."
Cherry raised an eyebrow, her smile faltering for a moment. "But you still want me, don't you?" she asked, her tone light but her eyes piercing.
