Capítulo 7: Don't wait up for me

For days now, I've been impatiently waiting for Friday to arrive, but it seems the days are trying to frustrate me more than Life Itself.

The days seem to be crawling at a snail's pace. It made no motion of going faster, all it did was crawl and crawl.

Checking the time on the clock, I rise to my feet. Sly might not like seeing me in the morning, but I'm not concerned about that.

As a husband, I must see him off every morning. That's my duty to both the Earth and my husband.

Rising from the bed, I didn't even bother about taking a bath, I just wore my robe, and exited my room.

His door like always is locked, so I didn't bother knocking on it. I just walk past to avoid either being snubbed or scolded.

That's what Sly knows how to do best. It's either he's scolding me, or his snubbing me. He doesn't seem to have anything else going for him.

I swear, there's nothing else he does.

I've never seen him smile before. He's always bitting his tongue in anger every time I see him.

"Good morning." Marli smiles when I came into the kitchen.

"Good morning." Smiling brightly, I sit on the stool at the kitchen island. "How was your night?"

"It was great, more than superb.". Closing her eyes, she kept her right palm on her heart.

"Better for you." Frowning at her, I look at the pot on the fire.

"What's wrong? Don't tell me you didn't have a great night."

"Oh, I did, but it's not as great as yours. My night was filled with tossing and turning all the way."

My mind was filled with thoughts of this party am about to go to, the pros and the cons.

I just can't stop my mind from conjuring a scenario where I'll be caught by my husband.

"I see. Eager to go to the party?" She wiggles her brow.

"Eager and nervous."

" I see." Turning to stir what was on the pot, she reduced the steam before turning to me. "This is your first party, so your nerve feelings are understandable."

"You bet." Rubbing my palms together, I smile brightly.

"So, have you thought about the colour you want to go with?" Removing the pot from the fire, she put the frying pan in its stead.

"Colour? Isn't black like the normal colour?"

Is it possible for someone to choose a colour that's not black?

But all the movies I've watched about this kind of thing always have the males putting on black suits, and the females, any colour of their choice.

I've never seen the males in nothing but the black suit they seem to love.

"No, it's not. You can choose whatever colour it is you want to wear to it." She poured olive oil into the pan.

"Why didn't you tell me of this three days ago, we would have gotten this sorted out."

I'm afraid, if we're to start sorting things out now, there's a possibility I might end up not going to the party today. She might end up telling me to wait until next week.

" It's no worries, love. Just tell me the colours you want, and I'll provide them for you. You don't have to worry about anything, just keep calm and allow me to do the job."

" Okay. If that's the case, then, I love blue."

" Blue?"

" Yeah, blue. If you can get it for me, I'll be more than happy."

" And your mask? What colour and style do you want?"

" Surprise me."

I stayed in the kitchen until Marli finished cooking.

Subsequently, I help her in arranging the table before I sit to wait for my husband, who's taking his time in waking.

" Are you sure he's going to work today?" Marli whispers into my ears.

"Of course, he will. Sly isn't one to miss going to work, he goes to work on his sick days, talk more of now."

There's no way fate will dare play a joke on me by making him not go to work today.

Should he not go to work, there's a possibility I might not go for the ball, as there won't be any chance for me to escape? No way, my escape can't be noticed by his all-seeing eyes.

" Okay." She's rose to her full height, "good morning sir."

"Morning." Sly answers in that cold voice.

Looking up, I lock my eyes with his, but he looks away instantly.

"Good morning." I smile at him.

"Morning." He replies in a tone that's cuter than the one he made use of with Marli.

"Sir, what do you want today? I have a…."

He raises a hand to stop her from saying more.

"I don't want anything. I just want to speak to my… husband." The way he said the husband seems as if he's talking about something that's not worthy to be talked about.

"Oh, okay. I'll leave you to it's then." Giving me a secret look, she leaves the dining.

" Is there anything wrong?" I look up at him, twirling my two fingers, I try not to appear bothered.

" Nothing much." He shrugs.

"Why do you want to talk to me then if there's nothing wrong?" I raise a brow at him.

"I won't be back until tomorrow morning. I have some things to take care of, so don't bother staying awake waiting for me." He says in a smug tone.

" Okay." I look down.

I want to ask more and say more, but I can't do that for fear of making him angry, and that's not my intention at all.

I really can't afford to make him angry for fear he might report me to my stepmother, who'll Likely barge in here demanding my ear as compensation.

"I'll be leaving then?" He made it sound like a question, but I know it's not.

"Okay." I nod, my eyes now on my laps.
