Capítulo 29: The Defender's Unite!
After sending Rupture through the ceiling, Wanda just stood there in shock, her hands were trembling. Though he had exploded on his own, she still felt she killed someone. I went there and held her hand. She jerked on my touch but calmed down seeing me.
"It-I-I.." She tried saying but I just hugged her. "It's alright, if you didn't do it, we would have been dead, ok." I tried consoling her, and she hugged back tightly, still trembling. Laura jumped in from the hole, followed by Jean who was floating documents by her side. They understood what had happened and didn't say anything.
Wanda slowly released me, and I held her hand and said "Let's go." She just blankly nodded at that. We went through the secret passageway and reached the exit to find Spiderman and Silk sitting with four webbed up unconscious people.
"Are you alright? That was a big explosion?" Silk asked, just as Arachnid and Ghost arrived as well. Wanda just slightly nodded and I said, "It's fine. The leader tried to self-destruct to bury us, but she saved us on time." I said gesturing to Wanda.
After that I copied all the written documents with magic and left it with the four webbed up people. Police has already arrived to investigate the explosion, so we left quickly. When we reached the base, I slowly put Wanda to sleep and lied her down in a room.
"Will she be alright?" Gwen asked worriedly.
"No." I said shocking them. "Even if it was a self-destruct, he was the first life she took. Getting over it is not that easy. Mine took me about 3 months to completely recover." I told them.
"She will be fine, but it will take time to fully recover." Laura added.
We stood there for a couple of minutes silently, when Miles said, "So... you were Enigma? All this time?". This caused the depressing atmosphere to disappear.
"Wait a minute... I was fanboying my friend the entire time?" Peter finally realized and yelled, getting all of us to laugh. "Hey, don't laugh. You could have told me." He stated.
"I can't just tell everyone I mess with gangs every night can I? Secret identity Pete. You haven't told the rest either, you know." I said shutting him up.
"Arrgh, fine, I get it" He relented.
"Still can't believe, you have ben doing this since middle school?" Gwen asked in awe.
"Yup." I said, and looked at the time. "It's already four, we should get some rest. At least tomorrow is holiday. I will contact you about the team thing tomorrow, okay?" I asked, to which they nodded. They were all tried after today.
"Wait are we in the team too?" Laura asked hopefully.
"Sadly, No. At least not now. First, you need to take care of Wanda, and second, this was a stealth mission, but when powers like yours start roaming right now, many eyes will come to New York looking for you, which we cannot take on right now, or the city would become a battlefield." I told them. "It will take a while to solidify metahuman image a bit more, after that, you can join in." I said, finally convincing the two. We picked up Wanda and went to the X-mansion, after which I returned home.
*The Next day*
Since Fury has paid me a visit, I decided it's only fair I do as well. So after the morning training, I teleported myself to the Pegasus base in mirror dimension and try absorbing the tesseract once again. This time I put wards on the machines to make sure they don't give unnecessary readings and started absorbing it. Spatial control and my divinity were two of the hardest to still train up, so this was the best choice. Absorbing the energy of time stone is a lot harder, so I decided to master the Tesseract first. I would obtain it after the Chitauri invasion, but who's got the time to wait?
After absorbing a sufficient amount and trying to understand it, I went back home and got ready. Wanda would still feel down because of yesterday's events, so I decided to take three out. I got in the car, but suddenly the communicator I gave to Captain Stacy rang out.
"It seems they are trying to track you. Many officers and the Chief himself" Oracle told me showing through the cam the communicator has.
I just smiled and picked up the phone, "This number is only available at night unfortunately, please leave any voice mails if needed." I said controlling my laughter at the blank reactions the Trackers had hearing it.
"Just messing around captain, how can this concerned citizen help you? Except for telling anything related to my secret identity of course.." This got a annoyed face from some, while others facepalmed.
"Yeah I want to know why you blew up the mansion, when we told you not to blow things up." He asked annoyed, while the trackers told them they couldn't locate me at all.
"Technically, it was a bomb they had set-up, so it wasn't me. And I have an important meeting, so I would have to drop here. I would appreciate next time you wouldn't call, just to try and track me." I said and cut the call, laughing at the dumbfounded faces they had.
I reached Xavier mansion and went in, only to find Logan sitting in front.
"Hey Logan, been a while." I greeted him with a smile.
He just stared at me for a while and asked, "What happened last night?"
That threw my mind in overdrive and I thought how he... smell huh. I wasn't wearing the suit when I picked or dropped them off. I sighed and said. "You probably already know, don't you?" looking straight in his eyes. He was an experienced man, who fought in WW2 itself. He knows how one looks after their first kill.
"Yeah, that's why I was worried. You gonna take them again?" He asked, concerned.
"No, what happened last night was a mistake, and Wanda's already affected. I will stop them for at least a month or two, until she stabilizes. They don't like falling behind, so even if I stopped them, they would go out behind my back." I said, getting a nod from him.
Just then Laura came out, "I thought I heard you, what's the occasion?" She asked surprised. Yeah, I really don't spend time with them. Have to rectify that. Don't wanna be Batman.
"I thought you girls would like to go on a ride? You up?" That immediately cheered her up, and she went to call the other two. After talking to Logan for a while, we finally left the mansion. We went to the Central park zoo, and had lunch. After that we went to my house and teleported to Galvan Prime, perfect spot for a picnic. We flew for a while, seeing the scenery, also had building competitions with rocks. We also tried studying Flora and Fauna here. All in all, a relaxing day. It worked like a charm as Wanda was laughing cheerfully seeing the comedy movie I had set up. After dinner, I dropped them off, and headed towards the Spider base. I had already brought and renovated an warehouse in lower Manhattan, reforming it as a new base, and gave the coordinates to the Defenders. Time for the Defenders to finally unite!
*Sometime later, Defender's base*
I walked down the stairs listening to Peter's tale of what he did today. And actually a lot had happened. Let's take his story and Oracle's info together. According to her, Justin Hammer had bought Vanko to his company about 4 days ago, and had him start working on the suits. Thinking the new armor's were good for him, he sent the old armor's to another warehouse. Unfortunately for him, Osborn came to learn about it. Well, at least the part that hammer was transporting a armor they had created. Thinking he could get the armor of his rival, as well as tarnish his reputation, Osborn hired a man anonymously to get the armor and wreck havoc for a while, then deliver it to him. And he had paid Aleksei Sytsevich, aka Rhino. Well, not now at least. Coincidentally though, the armor he used and broke out of the truck carrying it was a rhino armor, similar to the one in Amazing Spiderman 2.
He started shooting missiles and running through the road destroying everything he saw. Thankfully, Peter was nearby, and managed to reach on time. He webbed up any missile points and open joints, and pushed the machine into the ground. Then he used a manhole cover to break the glass and pull Aleksei out and web him up. He then started taking people out of rubble or damaged cars, soon accompanied by the other three. What hit him hard was the fact that Rhino had already killed about 20 people before he appeared to stop him. I told him we are not gods, who could appear everywhere to save people. We can just try our best. Those people he saved after fighting him are still alive because of him. But I was disappointed in Uncle Norman. He had not taken the serum, yet sent someone to do this. Hammer's reputation was still hit hard though.
We entered the hall, only to find 6 people sitting there, being Daredevil, Elektra, Iron Fist, Colleen, Power man and Jewel. I was surprised by Electra but she indeed was on the good side so I said nothing.
"Sorry, was a little late." I said apologizing.
"I'm surprised you still came after what you pulled off last night, I believe we haven't met before" DD said to me and then to the spider's. Everyone introduced themselves, but by their codename. To my surprise, Colleen went by Katana. Isn't that a DC character? Anyway, Electra said sorry to me for her behavior with the hand, which I told her DD had knocked her out before we even met, getting a laugh from everyone.
"Well, everyone has settled in, so let me tell you why we have gathered. Ever since vigilantes have showed up, the criminals have started to get smarter, even sometimes laying traps. We can't cover all area alone, and sometimes need help as well. That's why I want to establish the Defenders. A team who can have each-other's backs when ever we need." I said and showed them the changes criminals have been going. Like making deals at two places at once, or like the serpent society's ambush.
Everyone agreed and then I showed them the suits I made. Well, for everyone except Elektra. I didn't know before she was coming. Anyway, all suits were bulletproof and slash-resistant. Iron Fist looked like from the Ultimate Spiderman show, same with Luke. He said he was bulletproof already, but I argued that we shouldn't let the criminals learn of this. Daredevil's was like from the Netflix shows, and his baton could be electrically charged, like my gauntlets.. I had actually designed Colleen's suit with katana in mind, so it worked out. Jessica's was a Black suit, with White and Blue stripes like her comic counterpart, but full body instead of letting he arms open, with a domino mask and a hair color adapter, which changed her hair to a dark pink, which she liked. They had pouches filled with various gas bombs I use, as well as healing reagents, if needed. They have stealth mode and venom blast as well, with a built-in heads-up display, well for everybody except DD.
"Well, now I am going to show what exactly we will be doing this month." I said and Oracle pulled out holograms in front of us. "While we will be carrying our daily patrols as we did before, we have to be ready to deal with major problems, which right now is Wilson Fisk, aka Kingpin." I said, and his picture showed up on scene with his crimes.
"Wait isn't this the guy who was kidnapped by Kingpin?" Spidey asked, and I nodded.
"It is. He just acted like that so he doesn't get caught." I showed the video of him binding himself.
"So we are going after him?" Arachnid asked.
"Yes, but he is also planning something dangerous, so we have to locate him before things grow worse." I said and Oracle pulled out Scorpion and Electro's video of experimentation and training I got from the shipyard.
" Maximus Gargan" Iron Fist narrowed his eyes and said.
"You know him?" Luke asked surprised.
"Yes, he is a failed disciple of our home who had ran away." He said.
"Anyway, so far he has four success experiments. Once we find his location, we will raid together with NYPD to arrest him. Till then be prepared." I said getting a nod from them.
Now, let's see how good can Fisk hide!
