Kurnawan, with his right arm blown off, stood looking calmly at us.
Beads of sweat from the pain appeared on his forehead.
His signature smile was gone.
In its place was a lit cigarette.
He took a big puff, making the tip of the cigarette burn brightly.
He puffed it all out, then closed his eyes to a slit, and threw the Karambit in his left hand at Amy Lee.
Amy Lee couldn't dodge in time, got cut, and dropped her pistol.
Sea Snake Fang aimed his pistol at Kurnawan.
Kurnawan ran at Sea Snake Fang; the lit cigarette went from being an orange spot to an orange line.
That's how fast he was.
Sea Snake Fang fired; the orange line went zigzag.
"Thud!"
Kurnawan got close enough, kicked Sea Snake Fang's hands, and the pistol flew into the darkness.
"Here I come!" Out of nowhere, Firecracker Tan with his stout body came running into Kurnawan.
The impact knocked Kurnawan to the ground.
By now, Amy Lee had recovered; with her pistol in her hands, she ran over.
"Bang!" She pulled the trigger and shot at Kurnawan's head.
Kurnawan moved his head at the right moment.
He then swiped at Amy Lee's feet, bringing her to the ground.
Wasting no time, he quickly rolled to his feet.
Seeing this, I ran up, gave him a front kick, and screamed, "You son of a bitch!"
Kurnawan arched his body backward, like a prawn, dodging my kick.
Before I could react, he held onto my foot and pulled it towards him.
I stumbled, lost my balance, and fell onto the ground.
All I saw was his fist coming at me; I raised my hand and blocked my face.
"Pak!"
I took the impact from the blow; my forearms got swollen and bruised immediately.
Amy Lee came to my rescue with a high kick to his head.
It missed; he turned and gave a punch to the back of Amy Lee's head with the back of his hand.
The impact made her crouch down from the blow.
Sea Snake Fang joined in the melee again, grabbing Kurnawan's outstretched hand.
He slithered swiftly like a snake, next to Kurnawan.
With his other hand raised with the index and middle fingers pointed, Sea Snake Fang jabbed at Kurnawan's eyes.
Kurnawan tilted his head, dodged the jab, and took a bite at Sea Snake Fang's hand.
"Damn you!" Sea Snake Fang cried out in pain, raised his knee, and tried to hit Kurnawan in the groin.
To avoid being hit, Kurnawan let go and jumped back.
Seeing that he was outnumbered, Kurnawan tilted his head with a smile, then turned away, disappearing into the darkness.
I wanted to chase after him but was stopped.
"Don't go; he wants to lure us into the darkness and kill us one by one."
Sea Snake Fang stopped me.
"We did it, Sam! We managed to pull it off." Bobby hugged me, jumping up and down in ecstasy.
"Yes, we did it!" Everyone in the team joined in with the celebratory cries.
"Well done. But next time, go gentle on me," Amy Lee said, with her hand rubbing her cheek.
I swallowed a mouthful of saliva, with how she executed Clement running through my mind.
Remember, never agitate her; she will pay back sooner or later.
And I had just 'kicked' her in the head.
It was my plan to make Clement think that Amy Lee suspected me.
The bust-up was all planned.
Our shots missed.
With the darkness, no one could easily tell whether the shots really landed.
On top of that, to make them think that we didn't have any glass jar bombs left, Firecracker Tan's empty backpack was the last decoy.
We had passed the last two glass jar bombs over to Bobby earlier.
With what I had, I used my chess pieces to the fullest, and it paid off.
Now we only had Kurnawan to worry about.
After all the tension that was now gone, we sat down to rest.
When he felt better, Sea Snake Fang went and retrieved the pistol.
I took out my water bottle and had a mouthful.
Being hungry, I wanted to give myself a treat of cooking some instant noodles.
But with the bodies lying around, it wasn't an appealing sight.
"Bobby, let's dig some holes and bury them."
"Why?"
"I can't eat with the bodies lying around."
Bobby gave me an annoyed look, mumbled to himself, and started to dig.
I went up to Clement's body, turned my head away, tried not to look at him.
Searching through his pockets, I found his notebook, his phone, and a Cross made of gold.
I kept the notebook and Cross immediately in my backpack.
The phone, however, should have more valuable information for us.
I pressed the power button, saw that it was locked with a thumbprint lock.
Rich bastard, I thought to myself, as back then this was a top-of-the-line feature.
Lifting Clement's cold dead thumb and pressing it against the biometric lock, it successfully unlocked the phone.
His last correspondence was with Huang Bao Kun, and it was not good.
Clement's performance made Huang Bao Kun impatient and mad.
So, Huang Bao Kun recruited a team from the 'Six Iron Doors' to finish the job.
Having read this negative news, I passed the phone over to Amy Lee.
"More troubles incoming." Amy Lee frowned as she finished reading the messages.
Sea Snake Fang took over the phone, read the message, and sighed out loud, "The 'Six Iron Doors' are all well versed in the art of assassination."
"Don't worry, we can take care of them." Bobby stopped his digging, flexed his biceps as he said.
I rolled my eyes at him.
"Hmph. Do you know what the 'Six Iron Doors' are capable of?
If Clement and his party were like apprentice, those trained by the 'Six Iron Doors' would be something like Masters," Sea Snake Fang smirked and informed us what we were going to face.
"There's no use worrying. Whatever is meant to come will come," Amy Lee said.
I nodded, agreeing on that.
The night went on as I searched the other bodies.
There were the syringes the Lawrence brothers had used before, and also the crystal that Crystal Siti had used to track me.
I put the items into my backpack, then proceeded to bury the bodies.
Finally, when I was done, I made a campfire again.
After that, the aroma of instant noodles filled the chilling air.
