In the Metropolis of Tokyo,
Japan.
In the courtyard of a big lavish house that was combination of modern, and traditional architecture, an wrinkled, old man with grey, and messy long hair, could be seen observing the moonless, but starry sky from his wheelchair. He seemed to be in his late 80's, and had a thick and furry blanket that was covering him from his waist to his feet.
"I can feel it... [sighs..] ... My life is nearing its end... To make things worst, I'm all alone.... No family to look after me, or even people that genuinely care about my wellbeing... The only people that show a little interest in me, are those that interested in my scientific and engineering papers that I published, and the technologies that I have developed...
They are just hyenas that are licking their paws, and waiting for the right moment to feast on my discoveries, when I'm gone... To think that giving over 60 years of my life to science, will land me in that situation.... I didn't predict it at all, even though people called me the most intelligent man of all times...
When I think about that title, I can't help but feel stupid... I was completely blinded by fame and my ego... Anyway, it's time to let go of everything and rest in peace... But I must first make sure that all my latest works don't fall into the hands of the wrong people, after all humans can turn any discoveries into weapons for warfare like they did for Einstein's works and mine too. [Inhaling and Exhaling deeply...]... Solid hologram deactivation..."
Suddenly the scenery completely changed from a beautiful courtyard to a high-tech, futuristic laboratory and the wheelchair of the old man became wheelless and was floating above the ground. The blue shirt that he was wearing also disappeared along with the furry blanket, and he was now wearing a white lab-coat and a grey t-shirt.
He took a metallic ball of the size of a ping pong ball from the left breast pocket of his lab-coat, and he pressed it with his right hand. Immediately, the metallic ball started to emit a faint bluish light that blinked several times per seconds. He threw it at his desk on which he had placed all records of his latest discoveries and a thick metal box that contained his latest invention.
Space and time suddenly started to get distorted in a 2 meter radius around the desk after the ball hit the latter. The space seemed to become elongated and all the things with it also did the same, and time seemed to accelerate as the documents and desk started to very quickly decay. Finally after less than 5 seconds, the distortion suddenly disappeared and there was only an empty space where his desk was previously.
"Finally, I can rest in peace now... I seems that my researches will not make in one piece after all... But my nano-genetic bots that were in the metal box will make it to whatever era or place that this space-time rift is connected to... Time to erase all knowledge about the space-time rift device.'
He pulled out another metal, activated it and placed it on his lap as he closed his eyes with a smile plastered on his face. The same phenomenon as previously with the first ball happened, and the body of the old man along with the wheelless wheelchair. Then, they both started to decay before suddenly disappearing.
[Tik.. Tak... Tik... Tak... ]
Only the sound from the hands of an analog clock could be heard and besides him was a traditional calendar that were scarcely used in that time, except by those attached to the past. They respectively read '09: 15p.m.' and '1 April 2067'
